- This is a guide to Silkie, the first boss of the new criterion dungeon 'Another Sil'dihn Subterrane' in Final Fantasy XIV. This guide shows the current common strats for this fight, and also includes an uptime approach for Fresh Puff 4.
Sorry for the delay in making this. I have a bit more free time this week and should be able to release guides for the other two fights soon. Hope you find this useful!

0:00 Introduction
2:34 Fresh Puff 1 (3 mops)
5:14 Fresh Puff 2 (Tethers)
9:53 Fresh Puff 3 (8 mops)
11:55 Fresh Puff 4 (Standard PF)
13:06 Fresh Puff 4 (Uptime strat) - Hry
If anyone has the perfect strat for first tethers, please share! I've looked at dozens of them and had a play around with trying to find a simpler version myself, but I still think there must be a better one out there.
Simplest (braindead) reduction I've come up with is:
Green Boss+Cards: Yellow to wall, Blue perpendicular to Boss
Green Boss+Inter: Yellows to corners, Blues perpendicular to wall
Safe spot = Boss
Blue Boss+Cards: All to wall*
Blue Boss+Inter: All to corners
Safe spot = Yellow flanks
* N/W yellow away from NW corner for uptime
So basically, Green Boss = Yellow pom away from Boss, Blue pom perpendicular to Boss, and Blue Boss = All poms away from Boss (with the optional tweak to Blue Boss+Cards for uptime)
I like your Green+Inter solve with the Yellow poms moving perpendicular towards middle, to maintain uptime on boss!
@@evanbrydon3763 green boss + inter, your blue will cut through the middle, is probably perpendicular to outside.
@@DaviGri thank you! You're correct, Blue perpendicular to wall is more accurate.
I remember it took my group over an hour during day 1 blind prog to realize you had to be moving during ice dash in order to not get frozen we kept thinking it was distance based or something
Thank you WoL extreme for burning that mechanic into my soul! XD
yeah same here, took an entire instance for us to figure it out. our tank just jitters constantly and kept doing it right on accident, and we were so confused as to why he would never get frozen when all of the rest of us would lol
same here! It was a profound moment when I figured that out
There's literally multiple prior bosses that do this.... Oftentimes it's accompanied by a skill that puts a fire debuff on you, where if you take any actions or move, you take huge damage. Forcing you to pay attention.
yeah, same here! and when we figured it out we felt sooo stooopid:( so many fights before had the same mechanic, but no, we did NOT think of moving
My group and I have been focusing on this ourselves, like learning it as we go before we look up anything. I found this just to get an answer about the tethers as that has been our wall with Silkie. I just confirmed what our question was with tethers and it's helped with us figuring out how to handle them ourselves!
Thank you so much for a very lovely set up guide to show mechs! It's helped greatly as a visual learner.
This was the first “hard” content I’ve done in the game completely blind, and after some hours we finally downed the boss. It was incredibly fun brainstorming and making our own strats for this boss.
Very clean raid guide! thanks a lot!
For the slippery soap after fresh puff 2 (at 9:37 in the video), i never saw the blue version. It has always been the green or the yellow one during dozens of pulls, with multiple groups. I don't think that it's coincidence, it seems to me that the blue version is meant for specific mechanics (e.g. during fresh puff 1 and fresh puff 3), the rest of the time it would be either green or yellow (and usually when it's green, the next one is yellow, and vice versa)
Good catch! I’d never noticed this.
I'm pretty sure that the healer will always get targeted by Slippery Sloap during Fresh Puff 3. Every pull I've been targeted by it. So the melee can stay at the boss so they can keep their uptime while the healer runs off to the other side
Second this, it will always target the healer
Suspected this but wasn’t certain. Good catch!
There's a contingency for Fresh Puff 4 if some puffs weren't baited correctly, you should have lb2 at that point so you can tank lb and it'll last through the next total wash and could save a pull granted you didn't lose too much dps from earlier deaths or downtime. the damage down is actually very tame.
Does not work if the puffs explode.
Two things: the cross lighting effect is a nice callback to Crono Trigger, I thought was cool. Second, the jumping thing for the ice attack can animation lock you into the effect, I found it much easier to just start running right as the the cast bar is finishing. You will stay until the stack and you will be well out of the snapshot- as that snapshot is really stingy
i was waiting for this, LOLIPOPS. also tethers is hilarious sometimes. i think most people just end up pulling them all to the edges and its just a scramble to find that safe spot lol
Hector, if it's not too much to ask, could you let me know the process in which you make your background images? It's super neat that it looks exactly like the boss arena!
Would love to help, but these ones weren’t me this time. A kind helper made these and gave permission for me to use. In the past, I’ve zoomed way out and spliced together top down images.
I was in ASS for 10hours and, as a melee, I was NEVER targeted for the ice charge during Fresh Puff #3
i love you hector, i'll subscribe someday
EDIT: I saw you were a lalfell, so now I have to sub!
This thing/mount is literally Hamsuke from Overlord
Lol ainz sama sent his minion to give us problems.
thank you for destroying these boss mechanics with facts and logic
Congrats on your Silkie clear (it was harder before the Hector guide) it took a lot of efforts (it was harder last week) but you have achieved your goal (Silkie was harder on October 21st 2022)
Please PF, don't do Hector method. You can make all 4 corners safe
Ah the epitome of youtube comments. "This video just showed you one way to do it. Don't do that method." "Ok, what's your alternative?" ".............."
Care to share? I’ve seen strats with all corners safe, but the safe spots are inconsistent between the 4 corners so it’s no easier than the standard method.
Corner safe also means losing uptime, I don't think this should be considered optimal
Post the method then. There's no way to make all four corners safe which doesn't involve more thinking in orb placement which has always been the bane of PF.
@@HectorHectorson arguing in youtube comments when you gave two options on a fight that really doesnt have much of an enrage is the pinnacle of wasting ur energy
don't sweat this
