- Watch as Sacramento Koi unboxes the second half of its 2020 shipment from Japan. Over 100 koi from 5 different breeders. Due to Covid, we were unable to travel to Japan in person and had to buy these koi via pictures and videos from our broker. You are getting to see these koi for the first time at the same time we are.
What never ceases to amaze me about seeing this is just how long those big huge fish can survive inside a plastic bag!

The beni kikokuryu at 5:35 looks absolutely amazing! The shape of the body was great while the pattern looks interesting too! Definitely a keeper!

Long Fin gin rin is the most beautiful fish I've ever seen. I could watch her swim for hours. Magnificent. Looking down as the fins splay out is breath taking. The Wasabi is magnificent. The snow white platinum long fin just before the Wasabii is like an angel.
Really dont like the longfin koi, but that is al about taste. I really like your video’s because your always calm and kind.

Great video Steve. You may recall that we met a few times and talked over breakfast at the New Otani hotel in October 2018. Some lovely nisai there, especially Maruhiro imo.👍 For some reason the long finned butterfly koi are more liked in the Us than the UK. I personally prefer usual koi as the butterfly koi fins look messy imo. That’s the beauty of koi keeping - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Keep up these videos until we can all return to Niiigata

How do these fish survive for so long in a closed plastic bag with so less water?
Hi so glad i found your videos again after all these years. I cant have fish of my own but i love koi and the love and dedication put into growing them. I also was thinking what wld my first 8 Koi fish wld be if I could buy and definitely Asagi and platinum Ogon and the full metallic one. I really like the fish with the illusion of a face when you’re looking down on the fish from above. I shld get Tancho Utsuri, Sanke, Kohaku and what he calls Lemon Hirawaki and Shisui.

He says that the kois are from yamazaki but in the screen it says Yamasan Koi Farm. Which is true? So confusing.
How much do these fish cost??? Shipping alone must be 100 a box.
A few years ago they did an extended video and talked about 250k usd. But... the quality of the fish seems to be a lot higher since then. Wouldn't be surprised if it is more now.

So many beautiful fish! What was the pattern called on the last two again? Is there a preferred balance to the red vs white vs black markings?
Hi. They where Doitsu Sanke. White fish with red and black markins. Preferably no black in the head. Very good specimens. Whould love to have them as pets!

Hi. It is good to learn as much as possible. Once you start adding fish they become pets for a very long time and you can only put so much in your pond. I would suggest make a list off the fish you would like to have beforehand.
The different varieties can be overpowering to learn. But there is actually a lot of different koi that falls under groups like one color not shiny and then one color shiny. Same with more than one color.
Then there is also a group for everyone that doesnt fall into one of the set varieties. Kawarimono
If you like leave your email. Can send you photos of what judges use to separate them.
Something that I've learned years after I got my first koi is that the color of scales does not count as skin color. Eg a aka matsuba......red koi with net like black pattern. Does not fall into the class off more than one color. It stays Kawarimujimono. Meaning single color non metalic. So scalation adds pattern not color like skin pigmentation does.
Hope this makes sense. I am also just a hobbyist trying to learn more.
