I think the prince is the singularity. The critters are humans who discovered the singularity and are trying to help it recover by feeding the crawl more humans. Notice how law enforcement aren’t trying to stop the mimics and harvesters even though they actively hunt humans and serve no benefit to the environment. The government is in on it. They’re allowing the crawl to spread and grow so that they may restore the singularity and benefit from the mysterious properties of the crawl.

@@ApologeticPyro I wholeheartedly agree, especially because if you look a layer deeper and consider why the storybook looks the way it does from a storytelling perspective, it could be a simple *disguise* so that if any random person comes across the book, they won't understand what it actually *says*.

I feel like the prince is the vita carnis, the creatures probably at one point eat him maybe out of desperation and see that he regenerates, then they start feeding him to make him regenerate faster, eventually they run out of plants , so they start feeding him meat maybe their elder and eventually the prince is now just some monster that feeds on meat and spreads through the world searching for food.

The cheesy crawl penne is the scariest thing in this series. Didn't wash the cutting board, didn't mix in the meat with the pasta, didn't even melt the fucking cheese and left everything as like one of those sediment layer diagrams you'd see in a science textbook. I think even without the Host spores that are clearly in that flavor enhancer that this food would give you some kind of booty demon.

I have another more minor theory: trimmings are failed mimics. Both trimmings and mimics have similar early stages, just that a trimming is rounder and more docile. What if by taking care of a trimming you activate it’s metamorphosis stage and make it turn into a full blown mimic? Or what if instead of treating it like a good trimming you mistreat it and fail to feed it, making it go from plump ball to malnourished skinned creature with a spiteful hatred of humanity.

    • @kenyabrunson4985
      @kenyabrunson4985 Před rokem +376

Or... the trimming is always the infant stage of the Mimic. You're petting and cuddling and feeding something that one day disappears. You think your beloved Trimming has gone missing -- nope! It went into the woods to metamorphose into a Mimic. And the reason is that Mimics are such good hunters is because they've been studying you and other humans...in fact, you're on the menu as its first meal! Because they know your habits so well! I would also guess that feeding them the dry food DELAYS their growth, and the wild "Trimmings" (but really Mimics) are forced to grow rapidly into Mimics in order to get humans for food.

My idea for why the mimic defense info is different is probably because the government doesn't want to make the population seem helpless. By saying you're able to fight back in a way allows there to be less panic and anxiety over "your only hope is to buy time and defend yourself or run", regardless of if that information is actually usable or not.
It also is a way of making the population think that mimics aren't really that big a problem and that the government has everything under control.

A theory going around claims that, telling from half of this stuff being confidential, evidence of governments covering up a Mimic killing, images of individuals or companies with a Black Circle and a Red Triangle, a cult with reaches into those with power is also hindering the public knowledge on the Vita Carnis.
      A theory I like:
The Documentary frames the Mimic as unkillable to preserve them, while giving “defensive” instructions to try and minimize Mimic contact.
The actual defense instructions are actual advice, telling the viewer that a Mimic _can_ be harmed…while both still acknowledge the strength of a Mimic.

I noticed that the island wasn’t real but I wasn’t sure how to tie that into the story. The only reason why I say that the critters are humans is because of how the cult are able to blend into society disguised as normal people, but then again that could just be what it is, disguises. A made up island would make sense for a made up species native to earth as well. So yeah I see this being the case 👍🏽

living lives of hardship and constant resource shortages until they found the singularity in the stone age and asked it to solve there problems and so it swore to do so once it returned from its "home".
but by the time it arrived the "critter sapiens" had gone extinct and homo sapiens were the only few inhabitants of the isle which the singularity consider us the same as the critters.
so it gives the reward it promised tens of thousands of years too late and after humanity had devloped the technology to live and thrive on it own without nature threw technology.

The ones who wanted to help him wake up sooner had to do so in secret after all, and there is some sort of cult that seems to be helping the Vita Carnis. And said Cult Members were wearing pins with red triangles on them, just like we see on the prince's flag when he set off from the "island" and promised to come back.

    Hey Nasxeen!
At 38:14, you ask what the squiggly line in the y-axis of the graph is. That's called a break! It's when you want to skip a certain portion of the y-axis. This condenses the graph and makes it easier to read. For example, lets say a graph shows measurements in increments of 10. Therefore, the y-axis would increase by 10 each time you go to a new line (10,20,30,40,...etc.). With a break, you can skip to larger numbers (10, (break), 500, 510, 520, 530). This is usually done when the line on the graph increases at a rate that is real fast. It makes the sudden increase more readable.

without a break all values besides the 10 to 500 jump would almost be straight lines cause the graph would need to be so zoomed out. But with the break it can be more "zoomed in" so the changed between 10 and 20 or 500 and 510 are actually visible

    - The red triangle in a black circle symbol: It's seen on the "flavor enhancer", the last page of the storybook, and as a medal in the military person photograph. Now, it might be the "flag" of the alien prince that the cult reused after seeing it, or a representation of the singularity, both exlpaining why the symbol is on the last storybook page.
    - I think the reason why the second video about mimics gives contradictory informations is either that the cult infiltrating society wants people to fall victim to the mimics, or even that the fully human-like mimics mentioned in the documentary were able to get in positions of power and use it to spread false informations about how to defend from mimics, and be sure that their kin can more easily secure prey.

My headcanon (which will probably get proven wrong but oh well) on mimics is that they're actually fragile as crap. Not like, glass statue fragile, but closer to humans than bears in terms of ability to survive punishment.
They are very lanky and skinny, and all of the normal-ish-sized Vita Carnis species are either explicitly noted to kind of suck at life, or have vines/psychic powers to snipe other beings from afar. Their hunting behaviour is also very suspect; they creep up on individual humans, apparently don't even bother if humans show up in groups, or leave if their designated prey gets backup or isn't sufficiently cornered. If they're truly weapon-proof, clever and don't need food too often, it would make more sense for them to just suddenly snatch up dark-alleyway-lurkers every so often, or hell, just walk into a crowd, grab the nearest rando, and leave.
My take is that these videos are at least somewhat influenced by the settings cultists, for whom mimics (thanks to their intelligence and humanoid appearance) would probably be a highly respected Carnis type. The "weapons are useless" tapes are older and meant to prevent people from using weapons on them (cuz they'd fold like a twig), and the later addendum is an attempt to grant them some safety after their lack of weapon-immunity has become apparent (alleged weak points making people aim for specific spots, making it more likely that the mimic notices that they're in danger and leaves, and making it less likely that people would attack currently not-aggressive mimics as readily).
I like my interpretation in large parts because it would explain the inconsistency in mimic portrayals between entries, give them a small extra spice of character, and automatically make every single death we see them cause all the more tragic; cuz we know that characters were just a couple different choices away from safety. I guess the currently canon(?) version of mimics whole dealio of more or less just toying with their victims can be used for something too, but is also like. Aggressively common in horror.
Edit: So in retrospect obviously; I wrote this before watching the whole video, f. I like your timeline, despite how incompatible with my headcanon it is, whoops!

I am sure that everyone probably noticed this, but I can't help but be intrigued by the fact that the logo on the "Enhancer" is eeriely similar to the description of Verum Carnis/singularity (the final redacted type of meat monsters). Since it is established that some types of meat can create mental alteration symptoms I believe that the final type is capable of using the energy created by the crawl and give out orders to other creatures. Trimmers might be a alert lure for Mimics as their loud noises would bring attention. Every creature would have it's purpose for feeding the Crawl.

My theory on this is that the Prince created the Singularity or IS the singularity, and he did it to help to critters on the Island in Hudson bay and ending the famine. To do this, he would create the crawl and the other Carnis species, most of which would target large animals that attack herbivores like the island critters, and help food grow by making compost. The mimics would be created to kill humans, who are responsible for environment damage, same with the hosts. The harvesters were made to protect the area around the island, and the Monoliths were created to directly protect the Singularity. The Singularity as mentioned in the documents, sends certain frequencies and waves, these being readable by the Trimmings, who are the spies and informants for the Singularity. This reasoning explains why there was a Trimming infestation around that satellite, shown in the document about Trimmings. And lastly for the Carnis species, the Meat Snakes serve the Critters/Singularity/Prince by making compost to increase food production for the Critters. Now as for the Cult, the use the same symbol as the Prince, (Black circle with red triangle) and the cult are either controlled by the Singularity, or are willingly helping it. They do this by producing misinformation (explains why mimic defense instructional tape and the documentary contradict each other,) and by infecting humans with Harvester spores sold as "Flavor Enhancer" by Nutrire Co, which conveniently also has the Prince/Cult's symbol. Also, as for the 40m Meat Snake disappearing, it was done by the cult (I can't think of a good reason why) by a Cult military officer. We know it's a military officer because there is a frame with a person who has a medal, with the symbol of the Cult directly on it.
This is just my speculation on it, but I do genuinely believe my theory is relatively accurate as for Vita Carnis. If anybody has some criticism or anything to add onto this, I'll gladly listen.

Hi, great video! About the "frontal lobe deterioration": I do some neurology (brain) research, and the frontal lobe is the part of the brain most associated with the very "human", high level, symbolic thoughts that people have and most other animals don't.
If I heard "deterioration of the frontal lobe" in a non-scientific context, I'd assume that was a scientific-sounding way of saying "they lose the ability to act any smarter than zombies"
People associate it with movement because the part of the brain thought to control high level movement (eg, "move you arm like this" as opposed to individual muscle control) is in the frontal lobe, which makes sense since that's near the "think complex thoughts about your environment" part of the brain

Aswell as the fact that the island shown to be in the centre of Canada, shown to be where the Monoliths and presumably the Singularity lives doesn't actually exist on our earth, showing it most likely has some major importance if it exist in this universe.
And with the pictures accompanying the frontal lobe detoriation, it is most likely assumed to be what the "flavor enhancer" actually looks like/what the host's spores look like when they are released out into yhe air.

Great video, man! I got into analog horror thanks to Wendigoon, and it's great to find another creator creating these kinds of long-form essays about these topics

As a recommendation, I highly suggest checking out Dreams of an Insomniac. The art style is fantastic, and the story has been very interesting!

to me the story book sounds a lot like adults using metaphors to explain hard to explain things, like murder or racism. i don’t know what this implies but it’s noteworthy
