In this video I build a planter box out of reclaimed cedar material. Most of the parts are milled from 2x6 material. All of the lumber came from an old deck. This planter makes a great addition to a porch, patio, or deck. The finish is three coats of boiled linseed oil. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

I'll never understand people who put their fingers that close to table saw blades.
It’s one of those lessons you would only learn once.
I thought the same thing...
Nice to see a hand plane properly set down keeping the blade off the table.
Not gonna lie…it doesn’t always happen…lol.
I'm old enough to remember more than one shop teacher with partially missing digits. Not telling you what to do, but I would be mindful of my reach and left hand placement while using your table saw. In addition, I would be invest time in making a push stick for some of the tighter right hand pushes. Keep at it! :)

Great job but i have a question. On uiur 45 deg. Miter corners when measuring do you measure inside corner i try and s0me times it just doesn't meet up. Thanks and enjoy watching your videos. Learning lots
Thanks! In this case all four needed to be the same length so I measured the inside length and marked and cut them all just a touch long. At the 9:00 mark I’m using a 45 degree jig to hold the piece while I fine tune the end with a hand plane. There are videos out there on making one of these...i think they call them shooting board or something like that. This is a great way to take the saw cut which might be a fraction off 45 and dial it in. Also you will see about 9:20 that I use one of the other pieces already done to line up the next one. This allows me to plane each one down a little so that they all end up the exact same length. This in addition to fine tuning that 45 on each one gets those miters looking really tight. If this is for outdoors why not use WP glue and screws to go along with the good job you did on the workmanship?
I didn’t use glue on most of it because I want the option to take it apart for refinishing. For the legs the wood glue will hold just fine. I didn’t want screws visible and couldn’t use pocket screws without the holes cutting into the inside edge of the leg. Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
Why dont you put the measurements of the box you are making??
Most of the time I’m sort of winging It based on the material I have. Measures 19 inches tall with the top trim measuring 23 inches square. Inside is 15 inches deep and 16 inches square. All material is 1 inch thick. Top frame pieces are 3.5 inches wide. Side pieces are all 5.25 inches wide. For the legs one piece is 2 inches wide, the other is 3 inches wide so when glued together they are 3 inches in both directions. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions.
