    Was excited to see a squid video mate. Where you launched is a nice, quiet little spot and I've actually caught squid off those rocks right there! But all the way from Clifton Springs to Queenscliff is squid heaven. My favourite area is just further along to the right from there towards Grassy Point. Loved the karate chop to put the squid to sleep too! And yeah this La Nina weather pattern hasn't done us any favours. Lots of low pressure systems means lots of Easterlies and South Easterlies. And in a La Nina like we have now, lots of unsettled weather, and worse, unpredictable weather. The bureau has said the La Nina will last at least another three weeks, so we may have to wait until February for some normal summer weather. But at least there are no scorching 40 degree days and raging bushfires, which is what we get with the opposite El Nino weather pattern.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Darren, yeah I love catching squid it may not be the most action packed but i find the squid jigs and methods to catch them fascinating. I jokingly said to my wife last week that I want to move the Bellarine peninsula. There is so much good fishing around here and you can fish on windy days fishing either side depending on the wind direction. I love your analogy about the La Nina weather pattern and i think you 100% right. Its been really strange this past few months, many windy days, temperature well below normal, very low barometer and fish haven't necessarily responded in the typical bite windows. Its made creating content on a regular basis quite challenging. I agree hopefully by Feb things will start to become more consistent. I haven really targeted the snapper but wouldn't mind having another go at them. Hope you had a great xmas,

      I dont tend to worry to much about tides when targeting squid. No doubt on peak of tides, sunrise and sundown are generally most productive times for all fishing, i find with squid fishing calm conditions, clear water and weedy patches and the tides dont seem to matter too much.

      Yeah the Tuesday before xmas. It was a really strange day. I actually got lost and launched at the wrong spot initially which ended up being an unsafe shallow reef. I finally got to my spot by 9.00 on the water at 9.30 and the wind completely blew up by 11. So this was really filmed over 90 minutes. The rest of the day was windy. • @Jhcarpenters01

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Před 3 lety

      There are anchor pulley systems which allow you to have the anchor directly infront or behind the kayak. But they are quite tricky to install and require drilling into the kayak. Bit like this www.baysports.com.au/blogs/blog/how-to-install-a-kayak-anchor-trolley-system for many its just easier to drop an anchor over the side, which works OK if the conditions are calm.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Před 3 lety

      Yeah i probably should have touched on that in the video. I like fishing on calm days with clear waters it allows the squid jig to sink better and is more visible for the squid. Thats being said if its windy or strong tidal flow you can add a custom sinker on the front of the squid jig. I know some do this in places like western port with strong tidal flows. something like this www.eging.com.au/products/rui-squid-jig-tip-run-weight-egi-chin-sinkers-5g-6pcs-fit-most-yamashita-yozuri?variant=31971691429941¤cy=AUD&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_qD_BRDiARIsANjZ2LDqEC9V6lpk5xoa8G9EV0Ar77uJTLlBuwBrXidcNRPryp1O0hbVNqsaAi3MEALw_wcB
