For a movie that only made 40 million dollars, it was incredible, terrific sound track, great voice actors and cgi, story that you can actually follow without losing interest
they made 87 million dolars
loved the face sculpts too, the character designs were simply great on both sides.

After rewatching it, noticed Chip Hazard did not summon extra Chip Hazards, just only extra Butch Meathooks, Nick Nitros, Brick Bazookas, Link Statics, Kip Killigans, and Gwendy’s. Makes me wonder what happened to the other Chip Hazards
Problaby would lead with problems in command or whos in charge.
We also don't know what happened to the other boxes containing more gorgonites...

A theory I sometimes wonder is maybe its only that particular Chip Hazard that has evil intentions and those spread to the other commandos like a virus almost. Any other versions of him might not have gone to the same sort of extremes perhaps.
Its insane to listen to this song and realize how often its in the movie. Like you got activating the troops in the beginning, the tool shed scene along with Nick Dying, Chip Hazard floating in the river, Archer & Chip's Battle and the ending notes when Gill Mars picks up Chip's Head
This .... movie is better then anything they could and will ever make in 2021 . Watched this when it first came out ! God damn I remmeber being young and loving it. Now I'm alot older and just thinking about movies now a days make me 🤢🤢

They should start considering a sequel
There's been talks of a Small Soldiers sequel or a reboot for twenty-three years. It will never happen because Small Soldiers wasn't exactly financially successful. It grossed $70 million on a $40 million budget. Not to mention the conundrum of who the film was being marketed towards.
@@VioFax mr Mars said he knows some rebels in south America who are gonna find these toys very entertaining. In other words the commando elite are no gonna be used for military missions.
I pray they don't. It's a perfect, self contained story that didn't suggest any scenario for a continuation or reboot.

Small Soldiers was a moderate box office success but it’s true not enough for a sequel. However, another reason why the Small Soldiers sequel never happened is because Phil Hartman was sadly murdered by his own wife.

Textbook Goldsmith. See Patton and The Burbs as just some examples of a very similar vibe. Love it.
The Commandos were the good guys here and acted like any other military division would of acted when placed in their position. They knew they had enemies in their territory and only acted aggressively towards the humans after one of their troops was mortally wounded by a bike and a second troop was killed by the humans with a kitchen blender.

I just wish that archer would have kicked chips ass on the power pole at the end, resulting him in throwing him into the voltage instead of alan doing it.
It would have been such a better feel good ending showing what happens when someone decides to fight and had it in them to win all along
True but we can’t always win our fights 1v1 and so him losing was also a win because since he went down, he could get into the shield of the satellite, the main message was teamwork and intention of at least trying to win lol
But I agree, Archer and Chip should’ve had a longer fight and Archer should’ve given him the beat down on him when the CHIPS were out and kicked him into the generator, he still would’ve had time to jump/fall down into the satellite dish with the others!
If they re released these guys in toy stores in full detail as they should have been I'd buy them without a second thought

An interesting dissonance: we are watching annoying villains with evil plans, who, in principle, should not be sorry, because they are toy robots, but their ability to empathize with each other, a sense of humor, a proud and courageous musical theme recognizable to us and their complete conviction in the righteousness of their own feat still make us imbued with these Small Soldiers. Recognizable images of human beings and brave soldiers, which we a priori approve of, also work for this.
I think it works because they're in a sense victim's of their creators mistake.
They think they're the good guys and are are incapable of seeing it any other way due to their programing, so the theme is giving you a sense of how they see themselves and its very heroic.
That's how you make a likeable villain.

When I was young and first saw this as a kid many years back in the late 90s, I always thought that the human looking toy soldiers were the good guys against the monstrous looking Gorgonytes, but then I was shocked to find out that in my later years, they were the bad ones, terrifically villainous destroyers! Cool theme though, really well fitted for the Badass Commando Elites!

do you think the toys can feel human emotions because the Gorg and I just wanna go home, but in some scenes it’s clear that the commandos care for each other like when brick bazooka gets broken they were able to fix him but when Nick Nitro dies, it causes all of the soldiers to grieve even chip sheds a tear even though he’s made out of plastic
It's crazy how these toys (in the 90) had military chips so advanced that they made toys sentient.
Just imagine how much more dangerous the commandos would be with today's advancements in ai tech.
