- In the television world, just like in real life, you win some and you lose some. So, for this video, we’re gonna take a break from the deep dives and talk about some of the tv shows that didn’t make it during the decade we can’t stop reminiscing about, the ‘90s. Some we still love to this day and wish had gone the distance and, some we don’t miss at all and prefer to forget ever existed.

Thanks for all the amazing feedback on this video y'all! I'm already working on Part 2 which I plan to upload on Monday. I already have a long list of shows but I would appreciate if you'd continue to list other shows that I may not have thought of. By the looks of things, I will definitely need to do a Part 3 too! 😝
Please cover the following shows:
Singer & Sons
Sugar & Spice
Where I Live
Minor Adjustments
Sparks
Built To Last
Grown Ups
Arsenio. He had a sitcom after his talk show ended.
The Gregory Hines Show
This is great! For your next video can you please add Bustin' Loose (starring Jimmie JJ Walker and Vonetta McGhee) and Goode Behavior (starring Sherman Hemsley, Dorien Wilson and Alex Datcher. I think Gabrielle Union was on the show too )? I think Bustin Loose ran only one season and Good Behavior ran two seasons. It's so great to know many of our famous actors, actresses, and singers have been in the entertainment business for quite some time.😊
@@alewisscott I would love to see the following forgotten short lived sitcoms:
Charlie & Company
Frank’s Place
New Attitude
The Redd Foxx Show
You Take The Kids
Homeroom
I like to see you cover other TNBC shows like One World, Hang Time and All About Us.
@@therealmarlonbellamy Thanks for reminding me of Sparks! That was a GREAT show! ❤️
90s was the Golden age of black sitcoms
Facts
When it comes to quality the 90s was the golden era but when it comes to long lasting 2000-2005 was the years it was a great time to be black in the business put it to you like this the blackest representative (Bernie mac) was Americas 2nd favorite tv dad damon was 1st with mw&k and raven dominant the Disney channel so yeah that was our real era
I agree
Not really they was canceling most black shows after a season. But them boring white shows stayed on forever
@@jeremybounds3475they had a better marketing
The Royal Family was so underrated. RIP to Redd Foxx, Della Reese and Naya Rivera
It ACTUALLY was. It's like the show died with the great Redd Foxx. 😢😔🙏🏾❤️🕊️
Royal family wasn't the same after Redd Foxx died
Anything with Della was gold♥️
It wasn’t underrated enough
Facts
Telma Hopkins has to have the world record for being in the most sitcoms.
She did Family Matters, Getting By, Half and Half, Gimme A Break and Bosom Buddies. That's five and who knows what other shows she's done.
@@KevinPayton-fq8gd exactly! 😂
@@KevinPayton-fq8gdthe new odd couple , the casagrades, the nanny , not dead yet , the hugelys, roots the next generation and many more
@@Soitbesme She's had a long, successful career in show business that's for sure.
At least she always kept the job
I thought Out All Night should’ve stayed on the air!
Good show. I love Patti LaBelle. Happy 80 to her today! 🎈🥳🎉 🎂
Yes that was my show! I loved it
Loved that show!!!
📠
Agreed loved the show
My Brother and Me was my favorite!!! “Hit me” and “Goo Punch” were so funny lol😂😂😂
Don't forget the Cool Doctor Money haircut.
I just found out that Amanda Seales played Deonne. She was even annoying as a kid 😂
@@PHSDM104Bwahahaha! Me and my nephew wanted that haircut.
A classic!
Yesssss 🤣👏🏿👏🏿
The Sinbad Show was way ahead of its time. I’m surprised that FOX’s ego got ahead of themselves when it was canned after one season. But thank goodness, that brotha is alive and well.
Yes! Sinbad has been through so much. God bless him and his family. 🙏🏾❤️
Growing up in the 90s i watched every single one of these shows. I remember getting the TV Guide every fall and picking which new shows I’d watch. The 90s were great because it was the first time we got the chance to see families that more resembled us on TV.
Loved the tv guide lol
@@mrsx7944 I DID TOO
@Enriquecs8id SAME ABOUT THE TV FAMILIES RELATED TO OUR REAL LIFE STORIES N THE TV GUIDE (I THINK)?
Getting by was underrated. RIP Cindy Williams
And Merlin Santana
That was a good show.
It was aight. Watching episodes recently, I can see why they canceled it.
South Central was a good ass show!!!! Should've never been canceled
I'm gonna call a spade a spade, with the exception of Homeboys In Outer Space, the majority of these shows were cut short because these TV execs don't wanna see black people in a positive light.
So true.
Not a spade🤦🏿♀️🙄
Roc was beating Seinfeld in the Thursday time slot
And you know what happened next
And Friends literally stole living single's whole plot and arcs
Facts!!!
I completely agree!
South Central deserved more seasons than just one.
Today it would be a hit
@@excaliber8713 that’s because shock culture isn’t a thing anymore.
Underrated show!
So true
I agree. I see that with alot of failed 90s sitcoms would have done good but there were way too manly good sitcoms!
Gawd I loved My brother and Me. No one I know even remembers this show. The theme song lives rent free in my head.
I do I got it on dvd. Dee dee- hit me, hit me. I use to watch it nickelodeon snick.
Me too... Not one person I ask remembers it.... That Goo Punch episode plays in my head
And what's crazy was that On Our Own premiered the day after Party of Five premiered.
I wanted on our own to work
I loved me some Thea.
RIP Merlin Santana. I didn't remember he was very young in "Out All Night" before he got a recurring role on "The Steve Harvey Show."
He wasn’t on “Out All Night”. He was on “Getting By”. That was Tahj Mowry in “Out All Night”.
@@jinakayeThat Tahj Mowry before Smart Guy?
@@KadeemG61 Yup!
SOUTH CENTRAL SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT TV 📺 LAND.
It was retooled into Moesha.
Factual
South Central's premise was messed up from day one. Instead of picking up where the movie left off where you have OG Bobby Johnson trying to raise his son and making it into a coming of age story, you have a neurotic single mother raising two kids and a grandson and they all scream at each other for thirty minutes.
@@therealmarlonbellamynot necessarily true. Some of the premise from South Central were being used in Moesha and The sitcom “Roc”. The problem with South Central was that the show sort of glorifying gang culture and criminal activity rather than staying away from it.
It was a excellent. It was real af.
Has ANYONE been regulars and recurrings in more sitcoms than Telma Hopkins, Jackee Harry and Kelly Perrine?????
These three have been all over the genre for decades
Kelly Perrine is a show killer. Same as Essence Atkins. If either one of them are near the cast of a show, cancellation is inevitable.
Out All Night was such a great show with a great cast. It was on the wrong network.
CBS would of worked
When you have a mega star like Patti LaBelle, how could it have gone so wrong?!
It would have done well on Fox on a Thursday night.
Out All Night would've worked if they got rid of Duane Martin's character. Or at least told him not to emulate Will Smith so much.
South Central, Thea My brother and me and Out all Night definitely should had more seasons. Alot of these shows I don't even remember watching. 😂
I loved My Brother & Me.
“Hit me…hit me…” 😂😂😂
"And what happened?"
"I got hit!"
@@PHSDM104 CLASSIC. Fact that I still remember that today is wild. It was and still is funny.
@@Tey816 The fact that Alfie STILL try to holla at the bully's sister afterwards has me rolling. 🤣
They should either put these shows on streaming services or maybe reboot them too 🤔
I agree!!!
My Brother and Me was soooooo pivotal to me as a kid. It holds a very special place in my heart.
New Attitude should definitely be an honorable mention! That show had so much potential🤦🏾♀️
That show was fantastic. ❤
OMG! I love Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Morris Day to this day! All are LEGENDS and I enjoyed this show! ❤
Yes! Stay tuned for Part 2.
@@JuicyPopEntertainment oh my goodness, I can’t wait! Love your content down🤗🫶🏾♥️
New Attitude was so good! I've been watching episodes on CZcams.
The show Sparks should have been a hit lmao… but this is a great video Juicy Pop!
And also Happy birthday to Patti Labelle.
I loved Out All Night, South Central and Thea. My brother was a huge My Brother and Me.
Thank you for shedding light on these forgotten short lived sitcoms. South Central was becoming one of my favorite sitcoms. I was hurt about the cancellation. South Central was retooled into Moesha.
Good observation. I loved Moesha! ❤
How was it retooled into Moesha???
Me and my girl would RUN in the house to watch South Central. We were devastated they took it off😢
@@mrsx7944 It was created by Ralph Farquhar who created South Central & it did some of the same actors & actresses from South Central such as The Lamont Bentley & Shar Jackson.
@@mrsx7944 It was cancelled after 10 episodes. I was hurt about the cancellation.
Wow, as usual, you're bringing back some memories. I had forgotten that Malcolm Jamal-Warner's first post Cosby tv show was "Here & Now", and not "Malcolm & Eddie." I recall that its opening theme song was "Tennessee" by Arrested Development who were pretty big back then. That was about the only thing that stood out about that show.
Wasn't H&N originally gonna be a Theo-centric spinoff?
In the final episode of the Cosby Show, Theo graduates from college. H&N was to be a continuation of him working as a counselor at a youth center as he pursued his Masters.
@@kirkindog That's what I heard, yep.
I never saw the show, but I've heard the theme song via youtube compilations and it slaps.
All shows except homeboys in outer should be hits...😢
And not to mention that South Central turned 30 and also On Our Own, Me and the Boys and My Brother & Me are turning 30 in the fall
Miller/Boyette was just throwing anything on the wall during that period.
For real! 😂
@@JuicyPopEntertainment4:03 boom 🤯💥.
Some worked, some didn't
@@JuicyPopEntertainment
I knew Selma Hayek was in the Sinbad show and people tried to tell me she wasn't
@@JuicyPopEntertainmentFor no. 1, I didn't know Naya Rivera was in that show. She was in the show "Glee", it was a good show and wish she didn't have to pass away.
Another honorable mention was True Colors on Fox. The show was about a newlywed interracial couple(a widowed black man and a divorced white woman) and their newly blended family, sorta like an interracial Brady Bunch. It was a good sitcom, but it ended too soon, mostly because of the tragic deaths of two of its stars: Clevon Little, who played the husband, and Nancy Walker, who played his mother-in-law.😮
Now that was a pretty good show
I remembered the show but for a long time couldn't remember the name of it. 😆
Adam Jeffries was on that show before he was on “Thea”. “True Colors” had a decent run, though. I think 2 or 3 seasons?
I never realized there were a lot of single parent households based shows in the 90s
I remember ALL of these shows... SOUTH CENTRAL, OUT ALL NITE, MY BROTHER & ME and HOMEBOYS IN OUTER SPACE were some of my absolute favorites
My brother and me was such a good show.
I will never forgive CBS for canceling Under One Roof. I searched TV Guides for so long waiting for new episodes.
YES! This was a great family oriented show that was relatable.
@@danavixen6274 Couldn't agree more!!
Sean Nelson who was on the short-lived sitcom Here and Now later went on to star in movies such as Fresh and The Wood and appeared on two episodes of New York Undercover
He appeared on Power Book 2: Ghost in its most recent season.
I remember one of his New York Undercover episodes was an almost straight up ripoff of his movie Fresh.
I won't lie, "Homeboys in Outer Space" is one of those shows i categorize as 'So Bad, its good'. Its hilarious looking back on it and just scratching your head on what they were thinking making it. lol
That show was THE WORST
Guess they were going for something a bit “different” at the time.
It’s a shame because I’m pretty sure if they realised it now on Netflix or something that it would have been so much more successful
Homeboys resonated with me too b/c I like things that are out-of-the-box & a bit silly. Like me. People take things too serious at times.
I loved Thea!
Thea was supposed to be the blk Roseanne
Me too!!
Well Malcom Jamal Warners show first came out I wondered why he just didn’t play Theo as a spin-off.
Facts. I was thinking the same thing
Waldo Geraldo Faldo from "Family Matters", also appeared on occasion on the "Royal Family"... And Larenz Tate would become a Hood Superstar after playing O-Dog in "Menace II Society" a year & a half later!!
And also Getting by premiered on the same day as another short-lived sitcom Where I Live and both shows aired on ABC
Although 'Getting By' was one show that I didn't watch, it had a good cast and a thoughtful plot.
Great video!
I feel that The Sinbad Show needed more time.
FOX hated that show so much
Don’t forget Waynehead on kids WB. It only had about 15 episodes before it cancelled.
Was it really only 15 episode? I liked that show😂
My Brother and Me was my show.
I used to love Out all night. I loved the Sinbad show too.
One 90's sitcom that was short lived, but loved was "Where i Live" on ABC. Staring Doug E. Doug, Flex Alexander, and Shaun Baker. A forgotten gem.
I’m sad that you didn’t include New Attitude with Sheryl Lee Ralph, Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, and The Time’s front leader Morris Day.
Will be on Part Two
That was a good show. I remember watching that show when it would air reruns late nite on BET.
Depending on how how well this video does, I will do a part 2 and include many other shows. 😉
@@JuicyPopEntertainmentI hope so because you forgot to mention where I live which was on ABC starting Doug e Doug,Arsenio was a show that Arsenio hall was in along vivica a foxx, and nasty boys a cop show that air on NBC back in 1990! And another 1990 show hull high that was also on NBC that had carl Anthony Payne in it from Martin tv show! In 1993 Terrance Howard was in a short live show called Tall hopes that was on CBS!

Out all night was GOLD. ❤ South Central as well.
Thank you for talking about these short-lived sitcoms from the '90s and I hope you do a story on the short-lived sitcoms from the 2000's.
My Brother And Me was one of my favorite shows growing up. Taught me many lessons. I loved when he was so good at basketball, but was showing off the day of the tryouts, and didn't make the team. It taught me a lot.
South Central has so much potential i wish it took off
Yessss!!! Exactly! Me and you both! 😊
I agree.
The out all night theme song was soooooo good!
I LOVED " My brother & Me.
I remember going to a taping of Thea back in the day. And Brady did sing on that episode. It was dope
The 90’s had some of the BEST TV shows!
Facts
Facts.
‘Where I Live’ should NEVER had been canceled after season 2.
Much respect for this upload 😄! Here & Now should have been a Cosby Show spinoff with Theo now working at a youth center after graduating college. Sinbad should have had a wife. Thea should have had a husband. Getting By (& True Colors) were marvelous sitcom concepts. South Central was a very solid TV show. A few '90s shows that got unjustly cancelled imo: Bagdad Cafe (1990), Where I Live (1993), Under One Roof (1995), Good News (1997), Sparks (1997), Linc's (1998) & Grown Ups (1999).
I forgot about True Colors!! Watched that show faithfully.
lol I like how Steve mentioned “me and the boys” on the Steve Harvey show “I wonder what happened to me and the boys ? I really liked that show “
That was HILARIOUS! 😂
Notice the character names, too.
Me & the Boys: Steve Tower
The Steve Harvey Show: Steve HighTOWER
@@jinakaye I picked up on that myself!!
Allright now J.P.! Go animated and do a video on C Bear🐻 & Jamal or WayneHead!

I was born in 1990, so many great memories watching shows like this as a kid! 🤩 the nostalgia feeling is amazing right now 😩🙌
I was real disappointed South Central cancelled
It was becoming my favorite.
AWESOME I Don't Remember Half Of Those Shows Thanks For The Memories
I use to watch "Out All Night" as a child and "Thea" and my Brother and Me.
I currently watch all of these shows The Royal Family and my brother and me are shows my family can watch together 💞
Hate: Homebody in outer space
Love: South Central
🌟✨Funny, I used to watch every single one of these shows. I loved South Central, On Our Own, and Homeboys in Outer Space.✨🌟
The Ray J curse! 🤭
He’s the grim reaper of tv shows.
The Royal family was really dope ❤ I hope people will check it out. It's sad Redd passed during the taping and eerie they kept the show going
Loved Out All Night not only was the show funny it had some great musical acts. I also loved Thea. And My Brother and Me.
Father: "All this water came from my washer?"
Alfie: "It ain't from the dryer"😂😂
Out all night and South Central were my favorites
Thea was before Monique; better comedian to me; Brandy couldn't get along with anyone at that time; she was a spoil brat and fast; her mother did a great job hiding her secrets.
Thank you for the nostalgia 😊😊
You did your thing with this video sis!
Thank you! Stay tuned for Part 2!
I only remember Sinbad, My Brother & Me, HIOS, and Brothers. I still remember the Super Soaker episode of Sinbad.
A lot of these shows I remember. South Central was really good. Out All Night I thought was gonna last a few seasons. Not gonna lie, as much criticism as it had gotten, I liked Homeboys in Outer Space.
SPARKS, SPARKS AND SPARKS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THIS LIST. BUT GOOD VIDEO DIDNT KNOW MOST OF THOSE SHOWS
Stay tuned for Part 2!
Starting with a heartbreaker! 😭😭😭
I was devastated. I always remembered Naya from this show though.
I always wondered whatever happened to Keith Mbulo who played Dion on South Central.
Please, do a deep dive on My Brother And Me❣️🖖🏾😊💯
How do you mess up a show with Cindy Williams, Thelma Hopkins, Merlin Santana, and "Bud" from the Cosby Show?? They were all funny!!
Yes! Such an amazing cast.
I don't remember that show AT ALL
That show already existed in the 80s. It was called Kate &, Allie
This made Me remember My favorite decade, the 90s. Thanks ❤
Redd Foxx finally being the age he played in Sanford and Son and sadly Actually finally “going to meet Elizabeth”.
Wow this was great!!! What a detailed #throwback 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
I forgot about the Royal Family (RIP Red Foxx). I used to like Out All Night, Thea and the Sinbad Show.
I remember ALL of these! Growing up in the 90s has to be Ethereal
All of these shows were my childhood. They need a channel for all these shows that were canceled too soon.
“Out All Night” was a great show. It should have gotten another season to find an audience.
Interesting info! I'm from that era and the only one I recognize is Homeboys from Outer Space!
Wow, Steve Harvey had a prior show where his name was Steve Tower? Never knew!
Me and the boys was a good show too.
Most of these shows had so much potential. Some of them, you could see it not really going anywhere but most deserved like 5 seasons minimum.
90s sitcoms are unmatched. So many talented actors. I hope someone created a network with all these great shows
Vivica foxx and Duane Martin had another short lived Sitcom, it wasn't bad it even had a young John cryer it was called “”getting person “ it was hilarious
I only remember Here & Now, South Central, The Sinbad Show, On Our Own, Between Brothers and maybe Out All Night, and Getting By.
So essentially most of them lol
Only???😂😂😂
Out All Night came on Saturday night. That wasn't going to work
I remember all these shows, especially On Our Own and was sad they were canceled so quickly. Had we had streaming services then, most would have successful, except for Homeboys from Outer Space, that show was dookie, that's my opinion.
I just realized that was Jussie Smollett 😂😂😂😂
Really enjoyed this video. thank you. 704 Hauser was also a decent show back then. It really never had much of a chance to take off.
I feel like Out All Night lasted as long as it was supposed to. They were leading Vidal and Sharise to eventually hook up which was so predictable.
I knew that show wasnt gonna make it
