    Welcome to another restoration! Today: An old cleaver.
    You will see a lot of lathe turning, sanding, woodworking, filing, grinding and sandblasting in this video.
    If you are willing to support me leave a comment, subscribe and share my work, I really appreciate and it helps me a lot!
    I hope you will have some fun watching the video! If you have any further questions on tools, the process or the science behind etching with salty water leave a comment (a video about that will come on my upcoming second channel soon).
    Disclaimer:
    The experiments are only for educational purposes and serve as entertainment.
    I am experienced in handling the used substances and I advise everyone who is not a trained professional not to imitate the experiments I show you.
    For experiments which could cause potential danger I will not tell you which chemicals I am using to prevent imitating. Those who know what is happening, know the chemicals anyway and probably are trained professionals. :)
    I am not responsible for personal injury or property damage if the experiments will be imitated.
    I hope you understand.
    Until next time :)

    A work of art from scrap Sir. You must be very pleased with it. I prefer to use Teak oil for wood. I use it on boots as well, great for waterproofing.

    I've been watching your videos in order and noticed you have used a sandblaster a few times now. Do you now own one, or are you still using Mr Patina's sand blaster? This restoration is definitely one of your better ones - your technique and outcomes are improving. Etching the characters on the metal worked particularly well.

    As always amazing work, in the future since you like cool experiments, you can try inducing fake rust via hydrogen peroxide with salt and vinegar solution(warmed up and dryed with air dryer to mske it fast since you would need to spray it maybe 4-5 times) and then covering it with protective layer it looks really good but on axes and so for the cleaver you can try leaving the blade dipped in FE3 or I believe iron chloride maybe it should give the same effect even though it would need to be repeated few times and then treating it with any coffee based liquid (best in my opinion is just a regular instant coffee liquid) over the course of a day maybe it would give it a very nice darkish glow like bluing but a very shinny one.

    If you don't have a sand blaster whats the best/most common way to remove rust

    • @DrHutOfHandcraft
      @DrHutOfHandcraft  Před rokem +2

      Depends on the part. I would say the cheapest and easiest way is probably 25% acetic acid (vinegar essence), but that takes a couple of hours. And if you have access to a machine with a wire brush that works also very well.

    • @dust09100
      @dust09100 Před rokem

      Ok I do have a wire wheel I can use but I don't have the sand blaster or the electric deal you have

    • @DrHutOfHandcraft
      @DrHutOfHandcraft  Před rokem +1

      @@dust09100 That’s enough, you don’t necessarily need a sandblasting setup 🙂

    So do you add the rust beforehand with a process or do you find these items rusted? I've recently learned that over 90% of restoration videos are fake so I figured I would ask.

    • @DrHutOfHandcraft
      @DrHutOfHandcraft  Před 11 měsíci

      I don’t know where you “learned” this, but no, I don’t add rust beforehand. I found this piece at a metal waste/recycling facility, where I find a lot of my projects
