Not sure why, the original by 3DG is pretty much the same way. It starts off soft singing for first chorus. Singing only picks up in 2nd. The song is about juxtaposition of feelings. Sad sorrowful and then also hate. Why do they still love them when they hate them so.

And I'm not sure what you're talking about. The drums are spot on. I've played this song behind the set. Sound is always going to look ever-so-slightly off with video vs audio in most recordings. He clearly played this well.
