    A friend fetch me in one of the diesel X1. The torque is damn! Start to spot X1. I am more to Mercedes guy though but such mid size with such torque really amazed me. The boot space is good enough, the plus side is the rear door opens wide. You can put a washing mashine in directly unlike any sedan. Yet it feels like riding a slightly jacked up sedan. It is worth to go for it especially if considering getting an Ativa or x50. Germans are great at making perfect diesel engines. Good review.

    I am a merc enthusiast but have a x1 x20d in marakesh brown. What a car, built quality is pretty good and the most reliable BMW i have ( had e46/e53/e60/e90/f10) annual maintenance is ok about 2-5k as it is already 12 years old.
    The CBU diesel actually comes with idrive/ wood trim and most important of all. 4wD
    The first gen came without the electric steering hence is heavy on low speed but the feedback is great at highspeed
    The price of these are cheap now. Went shopping to trade in for a merc and the dealer only offered 30k! For a car with 26k km…

    I drive a U.S. spec sdrive 28i. The styling wasn’t ugly to me at first and now I really like it’s exterior design. Like you said, it’s in a crowded class but actually one of a kind because RWD and the engine sits far back. M sport package with sport tuned suspension makes it handle great. N20 powered with fine torque so it’s not quick but not a slouch. Returns about 26 mpg from real world driving. Only needed regular maintenance. Purchased 2 years ago with 41k miles for under 15k USD. Now at 56 and counting. Good little car

      Nice. BMW never officially offered the 28i spec here in our market. We only ever got the 20d, the 20i here with the 184hp N20 engine, and the 18i with the lethargic N46 engine

    Drove the 20i for 3ish years. Amazing handling and a very naughty traction control system that let you slide the rear wheels without interfering. The thing in the boot, near the batt, is the amp. Even the base sound system in the 20i had an amp, despite having only 5 speakers as claimed by BMW. I counted 6 speakers though. And it sounded great, with strong subwoofers under the seat. Im sure the 20d sound system would be better as it has more speakers.

  • @sudonano
    @sudonano Před rokem

    Personally I do think it’s a pretty underrated option - especially if you live in a country with adverse climate. In North America especially on the north-east, we get a lot of heavy snow, hence having ground clearance is always a nice to have (but also, do not want a tall SUV either as they aren’t as fun to drive). The X1 (E84 only ) was one of the few that fit my bill - the LCI here came with the N20B20 28i tune or the N55B30 35i tune, and xDrive standard. This meant I can still have my wagon like dynamics but with a touch more ground clearance for the snow days. And of course as we all know the xDrive system is great with winter tyres up here. Alas as these age now, it’s a bit more dicey to get into one up here, older cars are not as well maintained and labour to repair ain’t cheap.
    Oddly, I do find the Mazda CX-30 almost feels like the spiritual successor to the E84 - fun, with ground clearance but not too tall or not too big. The F48 X1 never felt good to drive for me, and didn’t feel as nice even compared to the CX-30.

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před rokem

      The F48 X1 is very generic SUV. It's better than the E84 only in the respect that it is more spacious inside, and may be just slightly better built. The F48 justified its existence in the marketplace solely on the merit of it being a better car than the GLA. Against the XC40, it falls flat. Actually, not even CX-30, the X50 feels a more premium product than the F48.
      That being said, have you checked out the U11? I saw the iX1 last week and was impressed by the interior.

    • @sudonano
      @sudonano Před rokem

      @@KonWaiLuen I think you’re spot on regarding the F48 - I recall sitting in a new one and felt how cheap and nasty it was, granted this was an early unit but yes, it arguably was the best option compared to the GLA (harsh ride, very tight interior, just as bad quality) and the Q3 Mk1 (the price, and it felt ancient). My hot take was the F48 (and in some sense, the F30) were less “solid” feeling than their predecessors, but they were maybe better screwed together - less shit fell off over time. The last of the “solid” feel F series cars had to be the F10/F15, anything below the 5 series in that era always felt very ‘hollow’ although they didn’t shed trim like the older models. BMW definitely has fixed that in the G series cars no doubt, they are easily top of the game now.
      I absolutely loved the XC40, had one as a rental in Germany, granted the D2 model I had was a bit gutless, it drove well enough, but more importantly despite it not being fully specified, it was well made and felt premium. The CX-30 we get here in America is made in Mexico; so it’s a fair bit different in comparison to the Malaysian model. There’s a bit more hard plastics on the door card and most models don’t come with the leather seats (except the top trim) but otherwise, it’s got excellent quality. I’ve yet to sit in the U11; they are a lot harder to find here actually as the X3 is not that much more money (especially on lease or finance) compared to an equivalent specified X1, primarily because the X3 is made in America (lesser taxes) as opposed to the imported X1. Also, the market here has generally preferred the larger interior of the X3, and it’s also a lot easier to sell it onwards. The F48 pre-LCI was popular enough here as bmw gave some sweet lease deals on it, but as prices have shot up and discounts are no longer found, the X3 gives more value here. In fact, the U11 will not come in the BEV form which was a huge surprise, as Volvo sells the XC40 EV and so does the Genesis GV60. The G01 iX3 also never made it here ever because it was RWD only which is a hard sell again due to the heavier snow in the northeast (BMW iirc offered the X3 and X5 in sDrive base form but those are barely bought by buyers either), so it was surprising the U11 won’t make it since they fixed the whole RWD thing as the iX1 is AWD. not to say bmw isn’t selling their EVs here either, their EV sales I’d say exceed their PHEV sales, and the iX and i4 have good take up rate (2 year waiting period for the i4). The i4 base is offered in RWD eDrive 35(iX3 equivalent) and RWD eDrive 40 (same as Malaysia) - but bmw has justified those as “fun cars” so the RWD only nature is fine. The M50 xDrive however is fully sold for 2 years+.

      To be fair to BMW, the F30 LCI did improve on the interior build quality, but still did not stand a chance next to the W205 with regards to sense of occasion. The F30 is more solidly built, but that’s not a quality you can capture on Instagram

    I had one of these but the Sdrive18i. The car is harsh riding, not fuel efficient 11.1L/100km if I'm careful, small rear boot for my small family, interior plastics thats degrading/melting/breaking off, unreliable with engine VANOS issues becoming a big repair cost, and a medium list of things thats not working or already broken down and repaired. The best part about the car is the big moonroof, very strong brakes, smooth engine, large side mirrors giving good visibility and overall heavy solid feel. I've driven many cars that is a better car than this one, avoid this car I would say. For my small family (boot space is important) the recent drives that seem so much better than this car are Honda Shuttle (big boot), Subaru Forester, Honda Odyssey (quiet), even the Opel Insignia (but also have some typical German reliability issues but a roomier car).

      Which market are you from? I don't think we had the sDrive18i in Malaysia with moonroof. This engine spec was definitely the one to avoid, being the same problematic unit found in the E90 320i.

      @@KonWaiLuen Its a Singapore car.. so avoid the NA 2.0L engine 👌i'm surrpised a simpler NA engine has more reliability issue than a more complicated turbo or diesel engine. Anyway, so far my ownership experiences with BMW (X5 35i, 523i, 118i) hasn't been a nice one but they are nice to drive.

      @@trustgtr33 I have just asked ChatGPT about buying used cars and this is the reply:
      In general, buying a used car can often make more economical sense than buying a new car. Here are a few reasons why:
      Lower initial cost: Used cars are typically less expensive than new cars, which means that you can often get a better deal by buying a used car.
      Lower depreciation: Cars tend to lose value quickly, especially in the first few years after they are purchased. By buying a used car, you avoid the steep depreciation that occurs during this time period.
      Lower insurance premiums: Used cars generally have lower insurance premiums than new cars, which can save you money on your monthly car expenses.
      Lower registration fees: In many states, the registration fees for a used car are lower than for a new car.
      More affordable financing: If you need to finance your car purchase, you may be able to get a more affordable loan for a used car than for a new car.
      Of course, there are also some downsides to buying a used car, such as potential maintenance and repair costs, the risk of buying a car with hidden problems, and the fact that used cars may not have the latest safety features and technology. However, overall, buying a used car can be a good way to save money and get a reliable vehicle.
