  • Our clubhouse Wearnes has two units of the BMW X1 for sale. One is a 2017 car the other a 2018 car. Both are sDrive20i models, but have different transmissions. The older car uses an Aisin 8-speed auto whilst the newer one has a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

    X1 actually offer both variant black or brown seat as a choice to match exterior body colour. The 2019 unit does some upgrade at the window trim to aluminium material, and the black-panel treatment on the speedometer instrument cluster.
    DCT runs smooth generally, but stop and go traffic in KL a bit clumsy..

    Surprisingly, even though they are on the same UKL platform, the 2 series active tourer drove vastly better than the X1. It felt more solid, less floaty even on a straight line, tested back to back.

      the x1 has quite firm suspension, yet on the highway it feels a tad bit floaty. maybe because of its higher centre of gravity?

      Jetdin possibly but the active tourer isn’t exactly low either, but still lower than the X1. If you don’t mind the looks and don’t need an SUV, the 218i was pretty awesome actually and is CBU

  • @sudonano
    @sudonano Před 5 lety

    The X1 only gets the DCT if not equipped with xDrive, which is interesting (and also the same case with the Minis too). Interestingly the US cars only come with xDrive standard so BMW NA never had to deal with the DCT here.
    But you’re absolutely right. All BMW UKL cars are great in isolation, it’s just that compared to the last generation RWD cars, it’s not as good unfortunately.

    • @paulevans7876
      @paulevans7876 Před 5 lety +1

      USA X1s are both sDrive and xDrive. I don't know if the sDrive versions are DCT, but assume they are for build reasons at the factory. At least they are built outside USA.

    It‘s not a dual clutch? It‘s a ZF 8 speed converter automatic. Bad research

    • @KonWaiLuen
      @KonWaiLuen  Před 5 lety +7

      The F48 X1, or any of BMW's UKL platform cars (namely the current gen MINIs, 2 Series Tourers, and X2), never had the ZF 8-speed automatic. These range of cars have their engines mounted transversely, which means they are incompatible with the ZF 8-speeder that was designed for longitudinal engine installation. ZF does not currently have an 8-speed transmission aligned for transverse installation. What they instead have, is a 9-speed gearbox that is used in the Range Rover Evoque and Europe's Honda CR-V Diesel amongst a few models.
      Before this, the UKL platform cars had the Aisin AWF8 8-speed automatic transmission that BMW has opted to replace, for selected models including the X1 sDrive20i here, with a 7-speed DCT from Getrag. Go read up.
