- Our clubhouse Wearnes has two units of the BMW X1 for sale. One is a 2017 car the other a 2018 car. Both are sDrive20i models, but have different transmissions. The older car uses an Aisin 8-speed auto whilst the newer one has a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

X1 actually offer both variant black or brown seat as a choice to match exterior body colour. The 2019 unit does some upgrade at the window trim to aluminium material, and the black-panel treatment on the speedometer instrument cluster.
DCT runs smooth generally, but stop and go traffic in KL a bit clumsy..
Ive driven this for a week while BMW services my car, I must say this car is awesomeeeee... loved it
which one is better? based on my experience with the 8spd aisin, it is a pretty damn good gb.the trim mocha brown colour choice was available even in the older pre-2018 units
Sure choose the latest unit, but a price a bit high, is it the model year 2018 ? Thanks
Kon, please review the latest 5 series
Hi Kon, do they mark up the price due to the "nombor cun" ???
who is doing the review for the new 2020 x1 m sport?
own 2018 x1 with brown interior...but i miss 2019 black out cluster panel upgrade...thats why better buy bmw in last circle model...fully loaded.I remembered first generation x1 coming to msia even without automatic boot...love dct upgrade...try zf x3 & x5...love dct much more...
Yep... my last batch 520i actually has more stuff than even 2002 525is
Hi Kon. Is the new X1 or CX 5 better?. Currently driving a Mazda 6..thinking of switching to a SUV for first time.
CX-5 for me. Take the diesel.
@@KonWaiLuen tqvm
@@KonWaiLuenCX5, 2WD or 4WD? Never driven diesel... Is car engine noisy like those 5 series BMW?
Petrol models come standard with 2WD, but if you go for diesel, take AWD. Handy to spread the diesel torque on wet roads
what fon u use to record this ya ?
Nokia 3310
I think it's wiser to buy a "New" CX5 2.5/2.2 diesel & still have some change bcoz the materials are at par if not better not to mention bigger too. What say you??
Excellent choice! We rate the CX-5 very highly.
Diesel cars no resale value
CX5 2.5 will give a better resale value than X1 after 5 yrs
Which would be a better drive, Aisin or DCT?
I personally prefer torque converter autos in general.
I thought they use the ZF 8 speed?
ZF 8-speed is longitudinal engine models. Transverse engine cars had 8-speed Aisin gearboxes. Could be same one as Volvo's.
@@KonWaiLuen I find the ZF in the X3 G01 to be smoother compared to the Aisin in the XC60 T5
Surprisingly, even though they are on the same UKL platform, the 2 series active tourer drove vastly better than the X1. It felt more solid, less floaty even on a straight line, tested back to back.
the x1 has quite firm suspension, yet on the highway it feels a tad bit floaty. maybe because of its higher centre of gravity?
Jetdin possibly but the active tourer isn’t exactly low either, but still lower than the X1. If you don’t mind the looks and don’t need an SUV, the 218i was pretty awesome actually and is CBU
Is it true that Aisin in this model is trash and often break before 100tkm?
Aisin gearboxes aren't supposed to break!!
Is it a dry DCT?
The BMW X1 uses a wet DCT.
Thought that they always use the ZF transmission
Lainad_15 Media the ZF is meant for RWD iinm
@@ronlabel i see..... but how about the xDrive one such as the X5 xDrive40e?
Mocha interior colors looks better than the black interior
Is it worth to buy this car, for long term use, fuel economy, and maintenance ? I'm thinking of getting X1 or 1 series
No its not worth, parts will be expensive to replace. Better lease it, they go for $ 300 a month
The X1 only gets the DCT if not equipped with xDrive, which is interesting (and also the same case with the Minis too). Interestingly the US cars only come with xDrive standard so BMW NA never had to deal with the DCT here.
But you’re absolutely right. All BMW UKL cars are great in isolation, it’s just that compared to the last generation RWD cars, it’s not as good unfortunately.
USA X1s are both sDrive and xDrive. I don't know if the sDrive versions are DCT, but assume they are for build reasons at the factory. At least they are built outside USA.
8 speed
which better?
My preference is for torque converters, but DCTs do give better emissions and fuel economy.
@@KonWaiLuen zf is as good as dct?
ZF 8HP is the best, but the X1 is not using a ZF transmission. The 8-speed here is from Aisin.
@@KonWaiLuen oh.
Torque converter auto all the way....dual clutch will likely to suffer heavy wear during stop n go traffic
I don't think I'll ever own another DCT car if I can help it, especially if it's the dry clutch ones, I'd probably give the wet clutch ones a shot if I must, I hear those last longer than the dry ones
@@traffictraffic its obvious u hv owned vw...but trust me,those dct in ford fiesta n pre facelift focus are more horrible
trick to prolong DCT life during start stop traffic is to never CREEP.
@@zaryl2k The BEST is not to touch a DCT or you'll be regretting for owning one.
@@wanamen6125 Ford Focus owner here. My trick is to engage the clutch fully in "D", then I change the gear to "N" for it to creep, while I control it with my brakes.
I guess you gotta change your driving style to prevent for more unnecessary damages.
In German people don't like to use BMW in during winter they prefer Audi or Volkswagen . For BMW X1 maybe another different story as run front wheel drive . FYI
Automatic > dual clutch
The red insert trim is so tacky.
Kauft nie ein BMW. Früher war es das Geld wert. Heute nur noch Image. 2013 Jahrgang, 45 000km und verteilgetriebe 2 mal am Arsch. Schlecht und bilig verarbeitet. Da steckt halber Renault drin.
It‘s not a dual clutch? It‘s a ZF 8 speed converter automatic. Bad research
The F48 X1, or any of BMW's UKL platform cars (namely the current gen MINIs, 2 Series Tourers, and X2), never had the ZF 8-speed automatic. These range of cars have their engines mounted transversely, which means they are incompatible with the ZF 8-speeder that was designed for longitudinal engine installation. ZF does not currently have an 8-speed transmission aligned for transverse installation. What they instead have, is a 9-speed gearbox that is used in the Range Rover Evoque and Europe's Honda CR-V Diesel amongst a few models.
Before this, the UKL platform cars had the Aisin AWF8 8-speed automatic transmission that BMW has opted to replace, for selected models including the X1 sDrive20i here, with a 7-speed DCT from Getrag. Go read up.
