- Cody Johnson states that though Old Town Road is a good song - it’s not Country Music. Plays his medley of Country Music Covers to the sold out crowd at Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater in College Station TX for the Back to School Bash 8/24/19.
- Hudba
Colter Wall, Cody Jinks, Cody Johnson, & Tyler Childers. Keeping it real.
Nicholas B Don’t forget My boy Frank Foster
Dont forgot Creed Fisher
and randall king
Riley green, whiskey Myers, wade bowman
Nothing but baseball 37 man I’m old but my favorite is Cross Canadian Ragweed(saw them 96 times live) but since they are no more I been really digging Whiskey Myers & Turnpike the last few years - but definitely check out Koe Wetzel if you dig the southern rock sound like me.
I really wish Cody would release a “Tribute Album” with all of these covers! He absolutely kills all of these!
The point is that: if everything is country music, nothing is. Country music is about storytelling, beautiful vocal harmonies, dobro, mandolin, fiddle, sliding steel, banjo, guitar, and light percussion. (Aka not manufactured/ computerized sound) When anything that talks about trucks, dirt roads, or beer becomes country music, it IS terribly sad.
What about mamma, trains or the rain? Or a tear in my beer?
Ehhhhhhhh somewhat debatable
Actually it’s not a perfect country song if it doesn’t say something about Mamas Prison,Trucks, Trains, Rain or gettin drunk.
And David Alan Coe felt obliged to add the last verse to the song and it goes like this...
Well I was drunk, the day my maw got outta prison and I went to pick her up in the rainnnnn but before I could get to the station in my pickup truck... she got ran over by a damned ole train!
I've always believed that country music is played by instruments... Nothing done by a computer/soundboard... All real guitars and drums and fiddles
I just imagined Cody Johnson teaching a graduate level music theory course and at some point he goes “I got two words for ya, buddy. Garth. Brooks”.
Like Aaron Tippin said “you’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything. You’ve got to be your own man not a puppet on a string” we need more guys like that representing country music!
Thomas Jimmerson I agree but it’s “puppet on a string” not puppy lol
Travis Sloan my bad 😂😂
There’s many like him. People just haven’t found out about them yet
Aaron sang it but I do believe his daddy said it
I sang that in my head
Oh man what a show that would have been to see Cody Johnson open for The King George Strait. Doesn’t get any better than that.
Amen about time REAL COUNTRY comes back
Man this guy is the real deal. That's country music
I was there and I wanted to cry
Madyson Clark he did the same performance in houston at the toyota center. loved it
I would’ve cried too and asked him how come there’s a kahone in a country music band??
@@nicholasgathings7321 it a Cajon drum & almost every band is using one nowadays. Less room & acoustic friendly mic it up. No different than playing a washboard or spoons. If it works roll with it
And Cody Johnson just won me over
And this is why I’ve been following him since day 1. CoJo Nation!!!!
That would've been the most satisfying money spent on a concert.
3:30 gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes cause how far off we are with today’s music
He did this up in Seattle when I went and saw him. Hands down one of the best in my opinion. Got a song for every damn mood I’ve ever had
Sure wish my Daddy was still here💔 ...He sure would love Cody's music! He used tell me & anyone within earshot, " If there ain't no fiddle or a steel guitar on stage,...then they ain't playin' country music!" Thank you Cody Johnson, for the music and the memory trip!
Check out Murder on Music Row.
This dude just gave me goosebumps for 12 minutes straight through a screen.
Dax Perrier tell me about it I’ve been to about 100 concerts and they get better and better each time been listening to this man for about 10 years and is humble as hell hasn’t changed a bit with popularity
AlaskanOutlaw907 you know what, shit I might just take a turn for Cody 🤤

I knew that there's a reason why I love this man ❤❤❤
Thanks for videoing this and posting! Love what he says about real country at every show!
Why does he have to tell every crowd how he is “real country”... lol... why not just play your music to your fans and let them decide.. seems weird... I don’t hear Willie Nelson ever announce that he is “real country”..
"If you dont like chris ledoux you anit no cowboy" #DaleYeah
Got that right OLE SON
Eric dale was the first thing I thought of at that part lol
Just LeDoux it!!!

Cody Johnson has the best concerts ever, come back to Kansas City!!!
This guy is reuning the king's music
This is brilliant thank you mate for posting this
I remember the days when friends in low places came out. There were so many Christmas cowboys out there almost overnight. I was a freshman in high school and all the older people were saying the same thing about 90's country compared to what we call classic country today. Don't get me wrong, I love me some 90's country, but nothing can touch the classics
I wanna see a full version covers of all these songs by Cody
Cody has a cover of the George Strait song on CZcams
czcams.com/video/cFBcNTQT6V4/video.html

Chris LeDoux was a very underrated singer. I miss him. He will always be my favorite
Heather Laswell Why is he true country music, because he talks about precious country music stars?
That's the best laugh I've had from a CZcams song in a long time. One cord!
This Cat knows his country music history. Good job Brother!
Keep it real brother! COJO for LIFEEE!!!
Now that’s country!
Its great to see real country artist stand up for the genre
I agree 100 percent, I see most of these country artist supporting and playing old town road, made me cringe like what the fuck are y'all doing
A real country artist would be David Nail. This guy just loves himself
@@version3155 Just agree with someone else for once in your life man, complaining about someone else's opinion wont get you anywhere.
Karen yelled "blame it all on my roots" to let everybody know she knows what CoJo is thinking

I was there omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally!!!!! Someone!!

2:59 says it all. The one and only King of Country Music period --- King George Strait
Sorry I have to disagree Hank Williams is top dog. Straight has his place but it's not the King of country
@@claystaggs8908 1st Clayton - Its Strait not Straight .....2nd - Strait has More #1 hits than anyone in the history of music! 3rd - Hank is the creator of country music and I respect HW but not close to King. Maybe a prince or a duke.
@@themayor6836 absolutely incorrect.
How do you define the King of Country? Most sells? Most awards?
The Beatles are the highest selling musical act of all time. Garth Brooks is the highest selling in country music. Hank Jr is the most awarded musical act in country. Strait doesn't belong in the conversation. Garth or Jr, is the King, if u want to base it off of facts not opinions.
@@lukewarmstanhouston9957 WOW another clueless comment ...Well 1st Ridgy - The Beatles are not country. 2nd - Ask Garth Brooks who the King of Country is he will tell you King George Strait. 3rd - Hank Jr is not a musical act as you stated he is a solo artist and has his place in country. 4th George Strait is the King of Country. To state "Strait doesn't belong in the conversation" shows your ignores and how out of touch you are with real country & King George's monstrous career. Do your homework before you state opinions that you cannot back up.... YIPPIE GEORGE STRAIT IS THE KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC FOREVER!!!!!!!!!
@@themayor6836 tell me how many songs has the so called King wrote??
One of the very few real country music artists
Best video ever. Cody Johnson best country singer right now.
No. That would be Tyler Childers.
Ruff Justice nah vocally cojo is more talented. Childers is badass don’t get me wrong but Johnson has a better range and tone.
Not even close, Riley green, Casey donahew, read Southall band, and a few more...
That dale brisby reference was perfect
He said it perfect
And more then once 😂
Wow that was awesome
LOL! God love you Cody Johnson.
"Lil Nas my ass"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
"You look so good in love "
Hell yeah brother country is country and u tell em
Amen brother
PREACH
Yes!!
Hell yeah Cody
Hell yeah!
Exactly! I've been saying it since the damn thing came out. In my opinion it's a knock at country music and the people who love and support the genre. It's a good song to get people up and moving and WE NEED that for this countries obesity crisis but IT IS NOT country music by ANY stretch. Kudos to Cody for calling it like it is.
Old Town Road is just as country as the bro-pop bullshit y'all call country today. Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings are rolling over in their graves hearing modern "Country." If old Town Road is a knock on modern Country, then good..... Because modern Country is NOT country at all.

“You’ll never hear me complain” lol
I'm more of a Brantley Gilbert and Brad Paisley fan but I just gained a whole lot of respect for this guy
@Lucius Sulla there better than half the other crap these days
@@Sniper--se9hn That's like saying dirt tastes better than cowshit....you may be right, but you ought not to be eating either of 'em when there's perfectly good steak available.
@@Chaendar u right, U right
@Lucius Sulla A lot of the country music today isn't garbage.

Welcome to the CoJo Nation
I saw you at the George Strait concert at Gillett! You're Fuckin' awesome dude!
U DAM right Cody ...
Hi there, could we use a short clip of this video for a news video on Taste of Country? We'd include a link to your original in the video, the description of the video and any editorial we write around our news video. Many thanks in advance.
Taste of Country sure thing! Just want to make sure people know Cody states it’s a great song - (I disagree) but everyone has their opinion and I didn’t realize it would get this much attention! CoJo Nation!! TX music all the way!
@@Carneyman377 Definitely going to mention that. Cody's thoughts on country and music are really nuanced and it's important to be clear.
Taste of Country thanks for asking also - I’ve been following Cody for years and love the success he’s earned. He use to play at a bar down the road from me for 4hrs and charged $600.....look at him now!
Taste of Country I subbed to you also and looking forward to seeing y’alls videos
Carneyman377 thanks a ton! There are a few good Cody performances on our channel.
Haha that’s awesome!
He says he’ll play some real country music, then proceeds to sing some songs from the 60s to the 90s. Sounds legit.
Jacob King what do you say is country music
Not a country fan but getting drunk to this shit is always fun
REAL country
Bout time somebody said it
Yeeeeesssssss
My hats off to ya mr cody!!
