- As part of a preventative maintenance regime, I tested my 1996 Ford F-250 460 7.5L engine for combustion leaks into the coolant. Will it pass?! See what a failure looks like!

Your suppose to test it after your vehicle runs for a while, allowing the thermostat to open, then test for two minutes. You can rent this tester at auto zone.

How you gonna test two min. You dont have enought air.
That was a very clever and simple idea to test the exhaust fumes after seeing that you didn't get a head gasket leak on your coolant
Very Very Smart!!!!!
Thanks for the video, and God bless you!
Nice catch!
Does the temp gauge have to be at 210° for this test to work, I did the test at just over 1/4 on the temp gauge

''' """ '' The coolant combustion tester/detector will only test the coolants fluids for a bad head gasket?
The Coolant combustion tester/detector doesn't test if the water pump is work correctly or if the radiator and engine has rust and other chemicals in the coolant?
What if a used car dealer puts a head gasket sealer in before hand? It looks good to you get home
Nice Catch @ 4:30!
I did it on my car and it is yellow however I have no black or white smoke coming out of the car nor its it overheating. Does this mean I am ok still?
Hi C Johnson, I have a motorcycle question. I own a 2005 R1200 ST and wanted to buy a tank & upper-side Tupperware protector tape/sticker. Any suggestions? Thank you
vanjkasiki thats a great question...unfortunately I don't have a good recommendation. If you find something though, let me know!
Is it normal to have it bubble?
What if I can't even open the cap without cooling shooting out while vehicle is cold? Lol
Hello wise man - give me information on my car....some photo if you have one etc...regards from Slovenia
What If It Turns Dark Green???
Than you probably sucked some antifreeze into the tester. As long as you don't contaminate the blue chemical with antifreeze, you can renew the chemical by blowing some lightly pressurized air into the chemical, to mix it up(in case your chemical turns yellow), it will turn blue again. Good as new.
@@davidcastaldi8886 great tip!
Wait, when its yellow on the exhaust test it means there is radiator fluid in your exhaust meaning there is a head gasket leak right?
No he's just showing what it would look like if you had a gasket leak in the engine
yes
no bro ,it means there is Exhaust gases In ur radiator fluid... difference!
My test came out good. Will it be a different outcome at higher rpms? Anyone???
And I let the thermostat cycle at least 3 times before testing...
@@Furious_George Can you explain by cycling 3 times? Turning it on, letting it warm up, turn off, let cool and repeat that 2 more times, then test?
JJ305 yes. Just to try and get all the air pockets out. What I ended up doing is bought a tool called an Airlift. It’s causes vacuum pressure which gets rid of all air and let’s you see if there’s a leak. Then you hook it to a bottle of fluid and it fills it up. Best tool ever...
Fair point.I also a bit confused. At idle liquid stay still but if I rev, liquid star jumping from side to side and at the eng colour change a bit to brighter..
You have to let the engine run until the thermostat opens and then pump for 1-2 minutes.
Your test wasn’t accurate
Gota be warmed up first to preform test my dude
The test is not valid until the engine reaches full operating temperature
Coolant is under pressure at full temperature and when a radiator cap is opened at temperature, coolant shoots everywhere. How would this be used at full temperature?
@@jheissjr You don't open the radiator cap, you leave it off before you even start the vehicle.
@@jheissjr With no problems at all!It should not shoot out otherwise it may indicate too high pressure in the system
@@jheissjr run car from cold till warm with radiator cap Off.. check upper coolant hose to assure coolant is now circulating thru thermostat and block... its not gonna shoot out all over the place.
u just poured that stuff on the ground?
Ha! I was thinking the same thing! I recycled mine with my old coolant.
Yikes, prolly not a good thing.
the blue liquid is bromothymol blue. Hydrocarbons will change the pH of the blue liquid and it will turn yellow. If it stays blue, light a cigar!!
Yeah, so what if he did?
@@alexgallegos7582 No problem. Cars leak antifreeze gas oil AC gasses etc. Many shops that recharge your AC don't collect the gas and recycle it. Why? It costs them money .
lol just buy it at harbor freight or somewhere for 20 bucks. with the fluid its $30. You'll spend more in gas driving back and forth to rent it.
Have you tried it yourself?
@@MrXmannymanx Yes.
You must live in the country… hate to break it to you but the rest of us all have an autozone within 2 miles.
@@iTsTHumpa Autozone sells the kit now, at least in my area, 50 bucks, but the other Irish auto parts store rents it.

Exhaust in your coolant?😂
Its supposed too turn yellow right?
@@htatesil4192 what you mean?
If it turns Yellow it's a blown head
So does that mean that you have a blond headgasket or what
Could be a redhead or a brunette.
You never know 😒🙄
@@johnhall4427 Its "blonde," but I see what you did there. 😂😂😂
