- Two bodies have been found inside the sunken yacht off the coast of Sicily.
Divers have been attempting to access the boat - which is around 50m (165ft) below the surface - since Monday morning.
Six people are still missing, including businessman Mike Lynch, his daughter Hannah, fellow British citizens Jonathan and Judy Bloomer, and two American citizens, Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo.

That's roughly 164ft underwater. Horrible. I think there was hope of air pockets inside the yacht, that there might be a chance of survival. I can't see it. The way the yacht went down so fast.....this is a body recovery now. Condolences.
The captain of the Bayesian, James Cutfield 51, told Italian police that he wasn’t monitoring the weather closely and the ship’s retractable keel was raised, even with an anchor depth of 160 feet. Lowering the retractable keel would have added stability and made it harder to capsize.

The retractable keel allows Bayesian to dock in harbors with enough water depth. The unanswered question is why was it retracted in a deep anchorage.

Who was awake and on anchor watch ? Someone is always up while others sleep. That’s standard procedure.

The captain of the old sailboat anchored next to the modern Bayesian monitored the bad weather and started her engine to keep the old sailboat’s nose into the wind at anchor to keep from being rolled over in a quick wind shift.
The ones behind the mattresses might have been pinned by them with the water rushing in, awful

They were celebrating getting off with a 11bn fraud case in the US on the very same day he's co-defendant was killed by a car while running a Marathon 100s of miles away, it's laughable how obvious it is
Its human behaviour to try to see patterns where there are none. A freak (quite common during August in the med btw) storm struck and a boat sank with some rich people onboard. Anything they had going on in their personal lives is irrelevant to nature and the ocean, and has nothing to do with the sinking.
we're terribly sorry for the loss of life, Forgive me, I don't mean to speak for anyone but I see little compassion for those lost. A wee girl died here to say the very least of the lives lost in this. ❤ There has BEEN altogether too much death the UK has seen of late. While I agree this is a strange one all considered, real lives were obliterated, and it feels like we forget that sometimes because it's not our family's irreplaceabley decimated. I don't know how you cope with a thing such as this and my heart breaks for the survivors.

So, in the case of a tornadic waterspout, it looks like the use of waterspout is more to tell where it is than to tell what it is.

Nobody left alive in the sunken boat. As soon as the tornado hit the yacht it smashed all the windows.

The dangers of entanglement facing Divers inside the wreck are real and extremely hazardous!
Likewise, the interior of the vessel would have seen considerable disruption with everything not secured to the vessel becoming debris, obstructing the Divers entry and posing a real danger.
Divers safety is the most important factor, to lose a Diver during a body extraction is not going to occur, the bodies aren't in a hurry to be extracted.
The wreck should be raised, like on Sewol, that ensures safety for those tasked with body extraction.

I've just searched 'migrant boat sink' into this channel and dozens of videos have come up about migrant boats sinking, so you've just lied.

For me as NA rather than considering the irresponsability for not to look for harbour waters while the storm approach presumably knowing by the weather forestcast, the combination of the vessel heading (presumably transversal to the incoming waves or paralel to the shoreline, anchored not sailing) with the main enviromental actions on the hull expose to the waves (load condition) and the gusting wind forces on the mast that at the moment of the mast collapse generate a spring trigered like effect that over come the yacht transversal stability capability inducing a counter moment around the vessel (Roll Resonance) leading to the yacht capsized and flooded after that through the open hatch , very sad event. Rgds

The yacht was full of gold that's why it sank.
Someone below mentioned a rebreather. Yes, a rebreather would be workable, but in this case, not necessary. It wouldn't extend dive times beyond the capacity of standard scuba cylinders, just be more compact overall, and use less gas due to the absorbent. The REAL ISSUE is they're only doing 'No-D' dives! They should have a dedicated dive boat on site 24/7, with recompression chamber, and let those guys (or gals) spend 30 minutes at depth. Their decom time would only be 45 min or less, but they could have accomplished far more in a much shorter time window. If anyone had been in an air pocket, the divers would have had considerably more time clearing debris and accessing the lower compartments. Truly, a very poorly run operation, as I speak from 20yrs experience in the deep oceans.
Rest assured that next time we (the Italian taxpayers) will petition authorities to personally call you as the commander-in-chief of the whole operation.
Meanwhile let us pray there will never be a 'next time'
