    Did a 56 55 years ago, one gallon of bondo and a lot of scrap paid $35 . I learned a lot, thanks Dad. STP or theblue flame Special smoked a lot. Great memories, and the workmanship in this job, WOW

    Man I’m glad it was the flywheel and not the crank or rear main .Still a bummer tho , I can tell by the window you working on it even at night. 55 is my favorite in the whole world. Mine was a 4door bel air yellow over white 283 mill first car I ever owned when I was 18. My stupid buddy borrowed it and unbeknownst to me was making white whisky here in Tennessee and got it confiscated. Still dream at night I get it back and wake up disappointed.. I’m 72 in a couple days wish I had one now .BTW keep up the work I’ll be watching when you crank her up . CHEERS from Tennessee.

      Hey Randy. I’m really glad that the flywheel was wonky and nothing more too. It was bad enough trying to get everything disassembled to get it removed.
      Sorry that your buddy messed up and got your 55 confiscated. Even at our age it is still worth having fun and reliving our youth so you can always buy another 55 Chevy. I love nostalgia too. I’m not finished with my 55 project but may have found another one, so I’m going to look at it this week. Have fun and stay young. 🤙

      My son lives in Murfreesboro TN and just missed getting hit by the tornado outbreaks the other day. Hopefully all made it through okay.

    I'm glad you got a different flywheel. That was a great video Daryl BUT we gotta talk about that Ford blue distributor cap. Lol.

      Haha. @Haffrods7055 Yeah that blue HEI distributor cap is on the way out!!! I have a dark red one that’s going on after I get the engine and cam broken in.

      I need to talk with you about the issue you mentioned when turning off your car. I have a reproduction ignition switch and I have had a problem as well . when I turn off the engine I think the starter solenoid is getting 12volts and kicking out the starter gear and grinding till the engine stops turning. Is that something similar that is happening with you?

    Thanks Greg for checking out my video. Yeah, I was kind of surprised about the flywheel issue, but it just goes to show you to double check and triple check everything.

    I USED HEADMAN 4 INTO ONE BLOCK HUGER HEADERS. MOSTLY TO CLEAR THE STEERING BOX. THE 2 1/2 " EXHAUST COST 2,500.00 BUCKS.

      David. If you’re relatively close to Carlisle PA their Spring Show and swap meet will be the 3rd week in April. There’s always a lot of tri-five stuff there. It’s a big show for the east coast

    Sorry about your fly wheel issue. What is the brand name of your radiator and electric fan. Looking to put no one in my car.

    • @darylvoorhees2629
      @darylvoorhees2629  Před rokem

      Thanks Greg for checking out the video. The radiator I have is made by champion and the fan i’m not sure about since I bought it a few years ago. I tried to size it to the radiator and get the highest CFM rating as possible. I’m gonna be making up another video on the cam Breakin and it’s going to deal with some cooling issues that I think I have.

    Have you ever tried a mini starter?

    • @darylvoorhees2629
      @darylvoorhees2629  Před rokem +1

      Actually I have not. I was considering using one on my 48 Ford pickup. That had a Chevy 350 in it and I had some fitment issues. I have since sold it

    • @jimwash7437
      @jimwash7437 Před rokem

      With my Big Block and Small Blocks I have had many problems with lining up starter and flex plate. I have since went to a mini starter and never had any issues.

    • @darylvoorhees2629
      @darylvoorhees2629  Před rokem +1

      @@jimwash7437 The real problem I had with the starter/flywheel ended up with a flywheel that was out-of-center. The runout of the ring gear was so bad that I had to replace the flywheel. It's all good now. I will consider a mini-starter the next time I do an engine. After I'm finished with the 55 Chevy I will be pulling the engine and transmission on my 61 Pickup to fix a bad leak in the transmission. The transmission was rebuilt before I put it in the truck but something is still messed up. Stay tuned. Thanks

      You could use a piece of sheet metal for a heat shield or possibly a heat wrap tape around the exhaust in that area. Good luck.
