- Here's some commentary and photos about the location of the oil pressure sensor on Dodge's late 90's RAM 1500's. There's a few videos out there that show how to do this, but nothing to actually show the position of the component. Hopefully this will bridge the gap that those other videos seem to have left.

Great video man thank you so much. Yesterday I taped and re-threatened that silver hole thinking that is why my sensor would not screw in. Then I turn on my truck and all this oil came flooding out on to the back of my engine. Now I know what I was doing wrong. I am so glad I seen your video.
You can use a deep 1-1/16 socket. You don’t need a special oil sensor socket. I use 1/2” drive, 1-1/16” 6-pt deep socket, 8” extension and a good (penlight size) flashlight. That’s it. I start with removing the QD wire then prefer to place the socket over sensor. Then I install the extension and finally click on a 1/2” ratchet. Then I switch sides and remove sensor by ratcheting via driver’s side. There’s much more clearance/room from driver’s for throw of ratchet; otherwise, it’s very difficult to do anything else from driver’s side. When installing the new sensor I go in from the passenger side with aid of flashlight. It should be easy to see hole and install from the right position. Pro Tip: lay a thick, comfortable shipping blanket (or two!) in engine compartment to lay on. You’ll be there awhile and might as well be comfortable. Once new sensor is threaded-on, again switch to driver to tighten. This job takes me no more than 10-minutes-slightly more if there’s a bunch of oil/gunk back there that I’ll degrease and clean before getting started switching sensor.
great help!
1 1/16 don't work most of the time bc the socket is to thick. Just got a 1 1/16 an it won't slide down all the way
I'm so gratefully with your information about this oil pressure sensor!
Thank you for the heads up, mine blew out today.
Thank you Ryan, this video did help me on my replacement of the sensor.
Helps so much! I was trying to install it in the mounting holes and couldn’t figure out wth was happening😂
I could hear the pain in your voice brother. Thanks for the video.
Thanks so much! Got this done in 20 mins thanks to you!
Glad I could help! I spent about 2 hours in blizzard conditions trying to figure it out.
You're a champ brother. Thank you very much!
I was hoping this might help someone out! Nobody should have to struggle for hours in the snow like I did 😂

Yeah this was very good I'm losing rmp and oil pressure and truck will just die. Like oh shit! No steering so as I'm coasting now, I'll put in it nuetral and turn key over and it'll start up again put it in drive and go. But this is in town driving headlights go dim horribly Everytime I'm come to a stop at night as it loses power. New spark plugs and wires did not fix this problem. But it's good to know I'm running on all cylinders now 😂💪
I was having a similar issue, unplugged the O2 sensor right under the 4wd shift knob, no more problems. I'm by no means a mechanic, but those sensors seem to be a constant source of trouble in older vehicles.
Nice job
Great vid is it on the top of motor directly behind the intake where is no room to get to it??
Appreciate it help me out a lot
Great to hear! I was hoping this could be helpful to somebody out there!
Thank you soooo much (from Germany) 😊👍🏻👌🏻
I believe those 2 mounting holes are for the egr valve.
I’ve done the top one, but I can’t find any info on the bottom one. Did you use the same part on top and bottom?
Is the one on the bottom and the one on the top the same?
It Works But When It Turns On It Still Dose A Sound Then It Shakes And Turns Off
No oil on or around plugg. I clean throttle body and changed gasket it was trash should I still replace sending unit
No idea... I'm just an idiot with a go pro and a local auto parts store with good tips and advice
i also have a 96, i have a question i don’t know if you can answer i just want someone else with one’s opinion on it
I'm just an idiot with a CZcams channel who couldn't find a good video of how to do this replacement. May be better off going to your local parts shop.
A deep 1"1/16 socket will work as well. Might save you a little money if your in a tight spot.
What happens if the oil pressure sensor is messed up? The oil gage went all the way down and said I have no oil and my truck won’t turn on is that the only problem??
🤷♂️ I dunno. I'm just some idiot who made a CZcams video.
But this be the same in a 2002 5.9
I dunno...this is all I know.
@@switchfeetnow2 thanks for replying back bud. I think I'll perches the book on it tomorrow. The gauge just started acting up today.
