- Learn how to paint a portrait in a similar style to renowned French artist, Francoise Nielly.
In this week's video tutorial we show you how, with simple drafting, you can lay down bold colour and thick strokes to create this stunning piece.
We’ve used H2O Water Mixable Oil Paint, Fluro Acrylic Paints mixed with Water Mixable Linseed Oil Gel Medium, and palette knives to apply thick, clean strokes.

Hi Reni, that's awesome! We're glad you've been enjoying our lessons :)
ESPETÁCULO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love it
WOW!
Q tips de pintura es?
This is beautiful!!! I love the way that oil/acrylic paint moves and looks with knife. I love the blocks of color...not sure I'm brave enough to do it yet...my brain always gets in the way...but I love how this looks, color and texture:)
With this mixing making more like oil, are there any special cleaning needs?
Hello Joe,
Very good representation of her pop art style... bravo et félicitations !
It should be pleasant to make with children also, they like putting full of paint :)
Big kisses as usual from the frenchie :))
Hi Christel, we're glad you enjoyed this lesson and we hope the children have fun experimenting with Neilly's bright colours and bold strokes. All the best!
Joe, I don't have kids but I really think that it can be an activity to match their holidays or even during a course of artistic expression at school
You are always creative and find subjects and styles varied for all the generations ;)
Cheers :)
Hi Christel, the bright colours and style would certainly be a lot of fun for kids to create at school. We do try to cater for all kinds of artists with our tutorials, so it's great to hear your feedback!
i prefer this painting to Nielly's actual work, its a lot cleaner.
Why can’t we get the linseed oil gel shipped to Canada
Gosh, I wish I could paint
. But this is Awsome....
Hi Janet, we're glad you enjoyed the video. If this one is a little too big, try starting small and just playing around with some paint. The main thing is that you have fun creating!
Me too!
I get this was like 3 years ago but what is that pink colour like.... I NEED IT!..... I would appreciate it if someone can respond
Wowwww
Can i use watermixable linsedoil gel with acrylic to slow drying and i can make effect like oil????
Hi Ahtraa, great question! Water mixable linseed oil gel will make the texture of your acrylic paints more like oil paints but won't significantly slow down the drying time.
I love this artist I love this style of portrait painting I'm kind of knew I took up acrylic painting I thought Francoise nielly used acrylic she actually uses oils would I be able to accomplish something similar in acrylics? Love your Channel
Hi there, awesome to hear that you're getting into acrylic painting! Yes, it is possible to use acrylics to create a Nielly inspired painting (we actually used a few acrylics for this piece as well as water mixable oils). We've created a video about how to make acrylics look like oils if you're interested: czcams.com/video/VRxNJoU9i9c/video.html
Great thanks for the reply and thanks for the link I actually downloaded the outline of the Nelly drawing took it in and had it enlarged in a store and then transferred it onto the canvas.
I was watching you paint it I think I outlined it too heavily I'm not that good with paintbrushes yet so it was hard for me to outline it I ended up with like pretty fat lines but I finished the painting it came out okay play Keep practicing on that same photo and kind of mess around with it and until I get a decent result love your channel man
@@califmike2003 it sounds like you made a lot of progress in a small amount of time! These things do take a little bit of practice, but it's all part of the process and we're sure your work will look amazing once you're done. Enjoy :)
Yo @montmarteart ! 👐👐📍 I use your products all the time and its the Only brand I use. The Dimensions. Maybe one day you can feature or collab post/video with me on a painting! Love from Philippines!!💛💛💛🎨
The lesson and materials list is no longer downloadable. Do you have another link?
Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. You can find the PDF guide here > bit.ly/3udlBth 😊
Can I ask? What kind of Art style is this? I actually wanna proceed with a facial art with many colors in them
Hi Patricia, this style is often referred to as ‘spontaneous realism’. As well as being used by Francoise Nielly, Jos Coufreur and Voka also painted in this style if you'd like to check out their work :) Good luck with your project!
How to voka art painting
what is this style of painting called ?
Hi Angela, this style is often referred to as spontaneous realism :)
doesn't this work with just acrylic though ?
Hi Sandy, if you were to recreate this one using acrylics you'd need a heavy bodied type (like our Dimensions) to achieve similar effects :)
I thought your tutorial was a digital art one. Do you have any on digital art?
Hi Sydney, thanks for your comment! Since we're an art supplies brand, we don't produce any digital art tutorials. We hope you find what you're looking for :)
great work sir. is this called pop art too?
Hi Daniel! This style is often referred to as ‘spontaneous realism’. As well as being used by Francoise Nielly, it was also popularised by artists such as Jos Coufreur and Voka :)
does anyone know what style of art this is called?
Hi there, great question! This style is often referred to as ‘spontaneous realism’.
Mont Marte Art thank you so much!

Why is this man talking like a news reporter reading a prompt

Not enough fast 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂how do you want for us to learn from you man!!😂
I could not see any math in coloring in this painting.
Nothing like Francoise Nielly. Honestly, wrong start, wrong execution, no sense of what colors to use, etc. etc. etc. sorry, but you shouldn't market this video as how to do an FN styled portrait.
Jasko Besic what would your constructive criticism be? i want to start painting like her but have never painted before. My novice eye agrees with you. It does look like her style However the colours are a bit off (his seems too pale not vibrant enough, there’s a lot of ‘empty colour’ in the sense that there’s big sections of a single colour, and lastly the strokes of his are short whereas on hers they are longer.
I may not know what I’m talking about and what I said could be totally wrong but I would appreciate your feed back.
1. His initial proportions are off, that comes with technical drawing practice
2. He's not confident enough with the strokes
3. Wrong choice of colours, too lumo, you don't need bright vibrant colours, you just need an array of predetermined colours that compliment each other
4. He doesn't use long strokes
5. His eyes and lips aren't accurate, neat or realistic which is key to contrast with a chaotic painting
How to have no life ...
