Completely agree they completely through off their ratios, these need to be tested separately and none of those reasons for using them said to skip butter and syrup at the end so of course the control is better.
the only prob i have with this is you put in three hacks for the same effect (baking soda, egg whites, and seltzer) for fluffiness. baking soda and buttermilk provides acid/base reaction, egg whites need to be unmolested by stirring (which you did more of when you added the seltzer which diluted the foam), and the seltzer is adding carbon dioxide...when it's not flat (like would have happened because of the splatter when you opened the bottle...the release of all the gas you're trying to trap in the pancakes). Literally, you added so much and diluted it to the point of irrelevance as hacks. Even if you did them for different reasons (crispiness, rise, taste, whatever...) the chemical reactions were antithetical to each other. Please do this episode again with different hack sets for different results.
I didn't realize using butter to grease the pan is a hack since that's how my mom did it when I was a child so that's how I do it now too, of course we still put butter on top but immediately spread it while the pancake is still hot and we also sprinkle sugar on top instead of using syrup. Also, the pancake cereals are great if you're not the one going to do the tedious work of flipping each tiny piece. 😄
For the buttermilk hack- it’s one tablespoon of acid ( lemon juice / vinegar) to a cup ( minus 1 tbs) of milk- whisk and set aside for 10 mins and it works great
idk man, as someone who's successfully used some of these hacks' for years, it was infuriating to watch her go through them. Adding egg whites to a batter and them stuffing it into a squeeze jar is the equivalent of putting a chiffon cake batter into a squeeze jar and then wondering why it doesn't work. This video bugged me so much, that it makes me wonder how many other people are genuinely annoyed at their other hack videos that 'fail'. At least Rie know's what she's doing to do it properly.
jasmine knows what she's doing, the entire point of the series is to use a comical amount of hacks, for other things that have been done on this series like cakes its one main goal but for pancakes the preferences are so much different for each person so its no wonder the hacks cancel eachother out, literally stop being so negative
The Stock Market is a big ball play. You just need to know how to react to most market conditions without emotions, especially with the sudden crash and rise.
i feel like resting the batter for half an hour made whipping your egg whites completely redundant. i whip my egg whites when i make pancakes and use the batter immediately and they always come out fluffy
yes! ...and my hack is to use just a little butter flavor crisco when needed instead of veg oil or regular butter. in my experience oil makes soggy sometimes and butter browns/burns too fast
Hack: Dice 3-4 strawberries and add a few spoonfuls of sugar. Then make your batter (or leave it overnight). The sugar draws out water and makes a syrup that's really good over pancakes.
A good, seasoned cast iron skillet also just makes prettier pancakes. It gets hot evenly, like a griddle. I actually have a cast iron griddle for pancakes, it's the best!
I’ve tried the whipping egg whites one and the buttermilk one and they both work well! I think another hack not mentioned was using the cap of the bottle of the vanilla to measure it!!
"Control pancakes": sounds like what it felt like, when the ex would watch me cook...and tell me I was doing it ALLLLLL WROOOOONG! hahahaha Freedom feels good.
The sparkling water is supposed to make the pancakes more fluffy, not more crispy or brown... Because of the CO2 in the sparkling water, the dough gets bubbly. It's a hack you'll use in German cake recipes :) Considering the butter: Use butter in the dough, the pan AND on top. Butter has wayyyy much flavor than oil. :)
I highly recommend this pancake hack, I used it everyday when my kids were younger, make a loose pancake batter then add a packet of your favorite instant oatmeal (brown sugar, strawberry, banana, whatever) then cook like normally. They make a more hearty and filling pancake while adding different flavors
Here is my couple hacks. I simply use just add water mix (about 2 cups) substitute with milk, melt 1/3 cup butter with about 1/4 cups peanut butter or Nutella tsp vanilla and 1 mashed banana, whisk mix and milk to just thick of desired consistency add melted mixture and 2 eggs. Fold in. For cooking I never use oil or butter. Just mix directly on a flat skillet they will not stick. And come out very fluffy and smooth
Crack the egg in a container and then use the bottle and squeeze it near the egg yolk to pick it up, this is how I normally separate eggs (its faster than trying to do it in the shell)
I eat pancakes *a lot*, a bit of an obsession for sure. I bought a nonstick pan off amazon with four circles for the batter to go in and that was a great purchase. Perfect pancakes every time. Also, highly recommend Kodiak Cakes if you're not doing your own batter from scratch.
Like others have said, I don’t think cooking in butter is a hack, it’s how I’ve always done it. I think you had too much butter though, I always put small knob in, coat the skillet then wipe out the excess with a paper towel. Then you don’t get greasy pancakes.
I make mini pancakes on the sheet pan. Heat the sheet pan in a 375 oven, then pour out two in diameter pancakes. The pan has to be hot. Return to oven, flip as usual. Serve a stack of minis. You can also do this with cup cake tins if you like them perfectly the same size and with crispy edges.
Hey! Listen to me now: buttermilk make it by whipping heavy cream past the butter stage (find butter recipie at home and save the milk that comes out of it)
FYI, the rice cooker one varies A TON between who makes. Half the people I’ve seen test it ended up with a runny uncooked mess, while the other half end up with perfect pancakes. The rice cooker you use will change the result, test at your own risk.
i have one, i just cooked pancakes yesterday, and I noticed my pancakes getting fluffier than before when they are on the pan I realized I just basically kept on folding my pancake batter to get air inside the batter, to make it fluffier? i was surprised is was not that thin, but not that thick, but decent fluff is enough
the egg whites wouldn't work at all since they were a. diluted and mixed extra by the seltzer, b. let rest for 30 min which gives them time to deflate and c. put into a squeeze bottle which would compress all the air out of them. individually, I think (some) of these hacks could work.
The best looking pancakes is use a nonstick pan with no butter no oil or no spray. Just a dry pan. Try it. You’ll be amazed how beautiful they turn out.
kudos for Jasmine for getting more airtime with Tasty but it also feels like she's getting more time because most of the senior chefs have already left.
Annie so cute. She makes it all looks like fun, know it is work. The sheet metal pan pancake would be so cool if you have guests. Wonder if a air frier would work?
I’ll like whipping the egg whites in a carton and folding them into instant pancake batter along with butterscotch chips or chopped Heath bar. Mmmm mmm mmmm.
Love the show but the scientist in me is like... ALL THE HACKS ARE CONFOUNDED! How do you know whipping egg whites is good or not cause I think a squeeze bottle would deflate the air?
When she said butter instead of oil i was like "uhhh i didnt know i already was doing a hack oh shi----" my mom always told me to use butter on the pan for pancakes XD
This series should seriously consider doing this 1-2 hacks at a time. A lot of these hacks cancel each other out. Like, do you want fluffy pancakes or crispy? What's the point of whipping the egg whites if you're going to make the batter sit? Do you want it fruity or mapley? (Unless you happen to actively want both). Are we striving for less dishes or the perfect instagram pancakes? The objective was not clear.
I have one simple batter hack Krustez Buttermilk Pancake mix..I've tried them all and it is the best and available in quantities that make it a pantry staple and for cooking nothing like a cast iron pan or griddle with bacon fat for the oil. :)
If you want a pancake without that speckled pattern, then cook it in a pre heated non stick pan without fat. This should give the pancake a smooth ombré golden brown look. 🥞 If you want the sides crispy, cook with fat.
@@susanzhu2928 Vinegar is watered down acetic acid, which is stronger, so it works better. I've tried both and it doesn't make much of a difference. Also is your pfp Suki from ATLA?
Okay, hear me out. When cook my pancakes, I use butter, but I usually don't eat the first pancake, because it gets greasy. However, since we use butter in a non stick pan, the butter flavor stays, and you dont have to add more butter for every single pancake. After cooking the first one, the ones that come after gets golden brown with no burnt senters and a perfect taste😊
if you use cold milk straight from the fridge your buttermilk won’t curdle! let it rest first, or quickly microwave it to room temperature, and you should have no issue with it curdling
I always use that buttermilk hack. I don't use enough buttermilk to keep it in the fridge at all times. I only ever need up to a cup at a time when I do, so I put a tbs. lemon juice in per cup of milk and let it sit for a few while I do other things, and it works just fine. Vinegar (the more neutral white distilled) works just as well if you haven't any lemon juice on hand.
I've seen other cooking channels do the buttermilk thing, and it's just because they don't sell buttermilk in some countries. And maybe you were supposed to add more lemon juice? It seemed like quite little for the amount of milk there was.
Um...to many "hacks" toghether. And some contradict others. If you take the time to whip eggwhites you can't leave the batter to rest for 30 minutes...wouldn't that deflate the air you added in???
