great photos and great work. Keep it up. Australia is beautiful and full of beautiful animals
Beautiful birds. Your photos are great. Gives me inspiration to take bird photos. Australia has the beautiful birds. My favorite is the Sulfur Creasted Cackatoo. 😊
I look forward to Cassowary photos! Great bird shots. Your photos are an inspiration!
Thankyou, your photography is stunning !!!!. im looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you so much!
Really good pictures. Greetings from Chile
thanks. great video that it seems i missed.
Thanks, yes, that is an old one showing our beautiful birds, Cheers, Duade
We have Galahs, Kookaburras, Rainbow Lorikeets, Gang Gang Cockatoos, Lapwings, Magpies, occasional Sulphur Breasted Cockatoos across the road at Wattle Park in Melbourne and if we drive a few kms to our local Waste Transfer Centre there are usually a hundred Bin Chickens.
G'day Andrew, sounds like a great place, we are very lucky to have so many beautiful birds in this country. Cheers, Duade
Beautiful shots Duade, lovely golden light on most I notice. Great work.
Thanks Mick, yes I do try and photograph birds in the golden hours. Cheers, Duade
Awesome shots and video, as always... It's always tough to name a few favorites when you have all these beautiful birds... but from the photos I have seen so far from Australia, I love Australian King parrots, Crimson Rosella, Eastern/ Western Rosella, apart from some you have already shown in this video... I hope to get to visit Australia and photograph some these!!!
G'day Vineeth, thank you for your comment, some lovely birds you have listed, the Rosellas sure are beautiful. Cheers, Duade 👍
Fascinating look through your iconic birds. Living in the UK everything you showed looks so colourful and different. Very envious, birding here is tough these days due to overpopulation.
Thanks John, yes, we are very lucky to have the variety we do have. I would still love to photograph some of the birds you have up your way. Cheers, Duade
Absolutely beautiful, thankyou for the introduction about each bird and the wonderful photos
Thanks Sue, we sure do have plenty of beautiful species here, Cheers, Duade
One thing I absolutely love about our country, is its birds! Such a great variety. Love most of those ones you showed. The bin chicken I think must have been when God was having a weird and off moment . . . . . .hahahahha. Thanks for sharing Duade. I always stop to try and find the black cockies when I hear their call. Subtley different with the different species in different places, but I love hearing them, and get excited when I see them.
G'day Denise, yes we are very fortunate to have the species we do. Nothing beats hearing and seeing the Black Cockatoos flying overhead. Cheers, Duade 👍
Awesome Duade! We definitely have some ripper species here!
Thanks Thomas, we sure do, Cheers, Duade👍
@@Duade oh wow, i must've been making a coffee at that point 🤦♂️🤷♂️
I think you missed the "territorial gangster" noisy miner. The terror of all other birds including Magpies. A great show.
Wonderful video and a great showcase of our amazing birds. I’ve yet to see a Splendid fairy-wren and a Major Mitchell. Loved the Kookaburra. Thanks for sharing this and what a great start to Mother’s Day 👌
Good morning Kim, glad to hear you enjoyed the video. We sure are lucky. How exciting for you that you will one day see those two stunners. Cheers, Duade👍
Duade Paton thanks Duade really excited to see these one day. So many species to discover ☺️
a good collection of iconic birds. My favorite iconic bird is the black cockatoo and I am still trying to get a reasonable shot of it. Keep up the great work.
G'day Graham, thanks for the comment, yes the Black Cockatoos are a special family of birds. Good luck, Cheers, Duade👍
I have some of those birds on my place but I was a little disappointed that only one raptor, the wedgie, was included. I would love to see you take some photos of such as the nankeen kestrel, the sea eagle or Black-shouldered kite. Some of the smaller hawks are pretty good too.
Loved this! I need to visit Australia!
Thank you, yes any bird lover needs to add Australia to their bucket list. Cheers, Duade 👍
Duade, as usual excellent presentation. As I live in Sydney I have managed to see most of these birds. Would love to see Regent honeyeater and Splendid Fairy-wren. Have seen the Cassowary as I was in FNQ last year.
Hi Jan, great to hear, yes, the Regent and Splendid are great birds. I am yet to see the Cassowary so FNQ is high on my list of places to visit. Cheers, Duade
Some really nice shots here Duade. I don't know how you managed to limit it to just 20.😊
I have only recently found your channel and am enjoying catching up with your back catalogue
Thanks John, yes there are many more that could have easily made the list. Glad you are enjoying the videos.👍
Fabulous shots Duade! I'd love to get one of the Major Mitchel. The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo and the Regent Bower Bird, could also have been included but I guess you could go on and on as there are so many amazing species. To get a Cockatoo with its crest up you only need to come to Brisbane...we have them in the garden destroying the Olyiander Tree!! They love the seeds. Thanks for this terrific video.
Thanks Nikki, yes there were many birds I had to leave out, the ones you mention are amazing birds. Great to hear you have Cockatoos nearby, but yes they can do a lot of damage. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Duade
Beautiful!! Thank you! Really enjoyed that
Great to hear you enjoyed it, Cheers, Duade 👍
Great video Duade, following birds come to our deck for a bit of a feed: Magpies and their young’s, Currawongs, Kookaburras, Butcherbirds, Noisy miners and I got a few nice pictures of them.
G'day Jan, you must have the most wonderful morning chorus with all of those songsters. Thanks for the comment and great to hear you are taking photos of those visitors. Cheers, Duade 👍
I saw a crested pigeon today. You should do a part 2, with the Australian king parrot, the crested pigeon and a LOT of other iconic Australian birds!!
Thanks Lenny, yes, that would be fun one day. Cheers, Duade
I definitely need to make another trip to Australia. Great images of these beautiful birds. Is the lapwing the bird that's infamous during swooping season?
G'day Kevin, yes we are lucky to have so many beautiful birds, lucky for me I still have plenty to see as well. Cheers, Duade
Great stuff Duade! I loved the choices. I live in Cairns, so a NQ fave list would be fun too! Go to go with the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo as my favouriote.
Thanks Scott, I agree what a wonderful bird, I have only really photographed them once as we don't get them down here. Cheers, Duade
Great photos! Thank you.
Thank you, I appreciate the comment. Cheers, Duade
Duade, a brilliant video, thank you
Thanks Clive, glad you liked it.👍
The magpie, masked lapwing and cape baron goose in nesting season....
Run for your life. They all make loud noises and want to hurt you. Don't look back.
BUT, the scariest of all is the Cassowarie and it is beautiful and surprised it wasn't in the video.
It's ancient and probably one of the most dangerous animals in Aus apart from the spiders and snakes and jelly fish and that one octopus and stone fish and the line up to get in the gates for the Bathurst 1000 or Summernats
I'd have loved to have taken your "worst" shots! I'm not new to bird photography on CZcams but I've missed your channel until now. Great videos, a likeable, friendly and typically Aussie approach to things. Beautiful pictures by a good bloke.
G'day Mick, thanks for the comment, I'm glad you found the channel, good luck on your birding journey. Cheers, Duade
Every time I'd see a Willie Wagtail in the backyard I'd call it Senor Willie and ask him what he was up to. The best morning was when four rainbow lorikeets were hanging out in the front yard. They were quite the sight.
, I too have found myself talking to Willie quite often when I am out and about, such great birds. Cheers, Duade
Great stuff. Stunning birds and photos. Subscribed!
G'day Andrew, thanks for the sub. Cheers, Duade👍
I have a couple of photos of the Tawny Frogmouth looking like a branch. I heard the Gan Gans up the top of Mt Buffalo yesterday, but could not spot them. I think my favourite bird would have to be the Major Mitchell Cockatoo. Keep up the good work Duade.
Kelvin, that is great to hear, a beautiful bird. Cheers, Duade
Planning on doing a tour of Australia later this year( covid-pending), and must say as much studying as I've been doing for a couple of years now, I still learned some things. So many birds, every fairywren, the chats, Nullarbor Quailthrush, all the parrots, both striking and subtle in their own way, spinifex pigeon, and fruit-doves; I think your selection was both representative and alluring, and will help instill wonder at the birds foreigners may not have heard of.
Thanks, yes the variety of birds we have is crazy. The only tip I can give you is Australia is huge and the birds are very spread out and some are nomadic and very hard to locate. Sometimes it's best to visit locations that have lots of species so you can maximize your time. Darwin, Cairns, Melbourne Treatment Plant, Perth, Gluepot. Good luck. Cheers, Duade 👍 There is a book called where to find birds in Australia or similar, has plenty of good info in there.
@@Duade I'm preparing for that in the red centre, victorian mallee and inland top end. I've tried to give myself a few days in certain habitats, or at least whole entire days to cover good areas, but time and money only permit so much. Still I'm pretty happy with my 22-23 day plan to do Sydney, Melbourne-Victoria, red centre, Darwin and Cairns. I won't see everything and that is fine, so picking spots for several hoped for species in each area that also have a wide variety. I like the fact that I can use the train system to get to everywhere I want to go in Sydney, and scheduled some tours for some of the iconic spots( ocean road, phillip island and Uluru.) Thanks for the swift reply and also helping me prepare for a more realistic outlook on what I can expect. Cheers.
I have Rowland and Farrell's birdwatching megaspots which is considerably incomplete, and feel some birds listed for some sites are rare at best, and may have been more common years ago( White-fronted Chat must've really vanished from much of Coastal New South Wales some time ago, cats?) I also have Thomas and Thomas from the 90's which still seems to be relevant and is more helpful than the other book, also with tips I haven't seen anywhere else, like don't stand under a metallic starling colony tree, for fear of mites; good to know!
@@uniquity2 Sounds like a great trip, you will see many beautiful birds in that time. Dolby & Clarkes Finding Australian Birds is the latest guide which is very extensive and includes the areas you plan on visiting. Cheers, Duade
Surprisingly there wasn't a mudlark/ Magpie-lark😮
I had been trying to get pictures of Galahs for ages, but I am out of luck. Great video!
Yes the Peewee is a great little bird. Good luck with the Galah, a beautiful bird. Cheers, Duade 👍
We are blessed with a great collection of bird species in Oz. I think the bin chicken is #2 in the ugly stakes, #1 has to be the bush chook :-)
Yep they must be related somewhere along the line, Turkey is another special bird. 😀👍
Duade, I'm impressed with your knowledge of these birds. The Australian Magpie is literally EVERYWHERE, we have about 8-10 that visit the house every day, they tap on the window to get your attention. Also, I used to get King Parrots in my garden however, a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo came along, dwarfed the King Parrot and that showed how big this bird is, huge.... I did think of one bird you could have included, the Long Billed Corella which is often mistaken or assumed to be Sulphur Crested Cockatoo's when seen in flocks.
G'day and thanks for your comment, sounds like your place would be full of bird noise with that many Magpies visiting. Yes, the Cockatoos really are huge arent they. Cheers, Duade
Thetes a few birds there that we don't get in Qld like the splendid fairy wren..beautiful birds..we have the superb fairy wrens here..such beautiful colours.
Thanks Darren, plenty of birds up your way I haven't seen, one day I will get up there.👍
@@Duade yes, you will have to come up this way, plenty of birds to photograph.
@@Duade i justjoined a group that you are in..i ohotographmagic..hope to get some feedback on a few of my images.
@@daztography1 G'day Darren, I look forward to seeing them. Cheers, Duade
Guessing you're near Brisbane, since Superb Fairywrens don't get much further north, but if you head about 5 or more hours west, you start getting into Splendid Fairy Wren habitat. Once you start getting around St. George, they start becoming relatively populous. Hope that helps if you're looking to photograph them.
Great as always. You forgot the brush turkey that’s absolutely everywhere up here in Brisbane. Which one would you consider uglier: the brush turkey or the ibis? (I’m very fond of them both BTW)
G'day Mansour, yes the turkey would give the Ibis a run for its money. I guess it has some nice colours in its favour. Cheers, Duade 👍
Some gorgeous shots there Duade, (spell check always offers up Dude when I type your name). I am still to see a Gang-gang Cockatoo let alone photograph one. I didn't know about the different appearances of the Masked Lapwing which is really interesting and I had no idea that the Regent Honeyeater was so endangered. I would have thought the Cassowary would have made it into your top twenty Australian birds not just because they are so uniquely Australian but because they are so difficult to photograph well. I just thought as I was watching this that if you are looking for a subject for future videos, a video about how to create a photo book w2ould be of interest. So many photographers have hundreds of photographs that sit on a hard drive hardly ever shared.
G'day John, thank you for your comment. I have been called Dude a few times 😀 I'm glad you learnt something new. The Cassowary would have made the list, but unfortunately I am yet to see this species. It is high on my list that is for sure. Cheers, Duade 👍
Great video mate, how big is your property? Bec it looks awesome with that water fall and stuff.
Thanks Tim, it is over 100 acres. That waterfall is not on my property but is walking distance so not too far away. Cheers, Duade
Once again, a great video to watch! Australian biodiversity never stops amazing me. That 2nd image of Tawny Frogmouth, taken probably at night... did you use a flash and flash extender setup for that or it was a normal torch?
G'day Arghyadip, thanks for the feedback. From memory a red light was used to allow focus and a flash and extender used for the light. Cheers, Duade 👍
Great! I'd very much like a video from you anytime, on using flash and flash extender in bird photography.
Been secretly feeding a wagtail at work. It sits in the rafters and gets loud as hell if I didn't put some seed out. I think they prefer insects though? Might be thinking of the magpie lark maybe. Also got a pair of Kestrels that live in the rafters of the wash bay.
People get annoyed by the wagtail but it's awesome we have the birds here and they wonder why lol.
Also got a magpie that only swoops one person cause they got aggressive at it swinging arms and stuff. It's hilarious.
No Cassowary? I was in AUS in Nov last year visiting family in Bondi Beach area. I would so love to come back again
Hi Alvin, you are right, a very iconic species. Believe it or not I have not seen that species yet. I need to get up to Far North Queensland at some stage. Cheers, Duade👍
Duade sounds like a New Zealander.
Thanks Lenny, yep, born and raised in NZ, been over here for 20 years now. Cheers, Duade 👍
You forgot about the Australian King-parrot Duade. How could you!
Sorry Lenny, yes, a beautiful parrot to be sure, Cheers, Duade
subbed
no bin chickens?
G'day Ashley, Bin Chickens are at 9:32, not really an Australian list without them. Cheers, Duade
@@Duade oh wow, I must've been making a coffe at that point. Good job!
No budgies or rosellas
Hi Arun, good point, they are beautiful birds. Cheers, Duade
Is there a good website to see an online source for Birds of Australia ? Like here in the US we have the Cornell Labs Birds (www.allaboutbirds.org ). Thank you
G'day Rajat, not that I am aware of, Birdlife has a resource on their website here birdlife.org.au/all-about-birds/australias-birds/find-a-bird, www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz/ is a wonderful resource and has many Australian birds also. The Australian Bird Guide field guide is the best if you are looking for a hard copy.
www.heyndekockphotography.com/Birds-of-the-World has a number of Australian Birds in his collection and I also have many photos of Australian Birds here photos.duadepaton.com/Bird-Gallery Cheers, Duade
@@Duade thank you Duade
I love Australia and one if these days I'll definitely want to make a trip there. In fact I fell in love with photography at the scenic sunset on 2012 in bondi Beach. Do you run photography tours. You take great stunning pictures BTW.
@@rjk93207 Rajat, hopefully in the future I will be able to run some sort of tour. Cheers, Duade
