  • How to Dual Boot Windows 7 and Windows 10
    Before you begin I recommend you do a full backup of your data.
    If you are looking to dual boot Windows 10 with Windows 7 already installed, then this video is for you. You can create this dual-boot system from pretty much any version of Windows I am going to show you how easy it is to dual boot both these operating systems, you will get a menu where you can choose to boot into Windows 7 or Windows 10.
    We will need to make sure we have a partition or another hard drive for our dual boot to work correctly. You can create a new partition on your hard drive using the Windows Disk Management Utility, this is easy to do in by shrinking the volume .

      Well i lost windows 10 in the process. I guess.
      After trying to boot in the bios i can no longer boot into win10 and the hard drive doesn't appear in the bios. My guess is that the hard drive is dead, weird.

    Do you only get this dual boot screen when both OS are on a single hdd/ssd? I'm guessing you have to use the bios to boot each OS if they're on different drives?
    I've bought a budget modern pc with Windows 10, but I want to fit everything from my Windows 7 PC to the new motherboard (dedicated graphics card, extra Ram, smaller hdd, even a floppy drive.) I'm just wondering if it's best to have both 7 & 10 on the same drive partitioned or separate, and if the former, is it better to use the smaller hdd for the OSs? Thanks.

    The main reasons to use windows 7 over windows 10
    1). Windows 7 is stable
    2). It is compatible with a lot of programs that worked for windows xp
    3). It does not spy on you or force computer breaking updates on you. ( yes I am talking about the windows ten update 1903)
    4). You still have control over your computer and not Microsoft. So no spyware
    5). It is a great operating system

Please advise if it is possible if both are set to 64 if prorams loaded for Windows 7 can be shared with Windows 10 eg some may only have a licence for one PC, please. Thanks and regards, Joe.

    Quick question : Does it take more time to start Win7/10 AFTER dual booting as compared to a single OS?
    I have a PC with Win 7 and it boots very fast.
    On the same machine when I freshly install just Win 10, the system boots up quite quickly.
    However when I dual boot Win 7 & Win 10 (Win 7 first then Win 10), the boot times are quite high.
    Both the OS's start without issues but it takes a long time (30 secs) to first show the OS selection and then launching the selected OS (another min or so).
    I use EasyBCD to set the boot menu.
    Thanks.

    When you dual boot from seperate partitions, can you access all the files on every partition in both Windows 7 and Windows 10? Eg. If 7 is in C and 10 s on D, when running Windows 7 can i access files on D without it screwing with the system?

    Thanks so much Britec09, I'm seeing a lot of questions about this install and maybe my experience with the GPT and MBR part of it can help someone as well. I couldn't make my transition to Dual Boot to work with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro on an new SSD with GPT and my existing Windows 7 on a 7200rpm HDD with original MBR on my laptop with 2 separate hard drives (Yes, my laptop has 2 HDD slots and I couldn't switch my original HDD from MBR to GPT). So when I Simple Initialized my new SSD (remembering to name it "Windows 10" like he suggested) I chose MBR and it worked great. When I booted into the new Windows 10 Pro hard drive, I was pleased to see that my original Windows 7 containing HDD showed up as a C/: drive, and I could access all my downloaded content through Windows 10. Sweet! I did not know that. I love that I can go back and forth between operating systems and use some of my old programs that I can't get any more when I'm booted on Windows 7. Thanks for this video Britec09

  • @Dr.AnonymousPro
    @Dr.AnonymousPro Před 6 lety +38

    This is all very incorrect. Both Windows 7 and Windows 10 (nowadays) install an extra 3 partitions in front of the disk. The way you've done it is only possible in a virtual environment. As is shown often by others, since W10 wants to install using GPT, and most Win7 users have it on an MBR disk, this causes all kinds of messy troubles. Not to mention the required BIOS settings for newer boards are completely sucky for dual boot options on an NVMe SSD for example. In short: It's a complete mess, all thanks to the shit dev team 10 of Microsoft, where they can't even fix a broken bcd with their 'Startup repair', while every dumb user can see both *active* Windows partitions by commandline. Apparently only idiots work at Microsoft these days.

    • @Argonova
      @Argonova Před 5 lety +5

      You shouldn't call them "idiots". It was completely intentional. They want to make dual booting as difficult as humanly possible so that the average person won't risk screwing up their system to try an alternative OS.

    • @Reploidx9
      @Reploidx9 Před 5 lety +7

      Intentional or not, they're still idiots for doing so. The "average" person will still screw up the system. It always happens.

    • @Argonova
      @Argonova Před 5 lety +1

      I think you misunderstood, although I could have been more clear. What I meant was, the average person won't risk setting up any kind of dual boot for fear of breaking their computer. Doing so seems highly technical to the average person. And very few people are willing to outright delete their windows installation. My point was, the design is intended to intimidate people into not giving alternative operating systems a try. All in the name of keeping them "safe". Its a cut throat business decision to ensure their (effective) monopoly on the market share.

    • @jacobnathanielzpayag3885
      @jacobnathanielzpayag3885 Před 5 lety +2

      According to microsoft you "can" dual-boot by installing Windows 10 first. Windows 7 can be installed using a GPT layout afterwards. But i think this is only limited to 64-bit versions of Windows 7.
