Vince McMahon is not afraid of failure, he is afraid of success without him.
Last year in 2022, WWE felt like a breath of fresh air when Vince McMahon stepped down from the company. With Triple H in charge of Creative, we saw one of the best Summerslams of all time, War Games brought to the main roster, Survivor Series actually was important for once, and the return of wrestlers such as Bray Wyatt, Bayley, Iyo Sky, Dakota Kai, LA Knight, Karrion Kross, and others. Not to mention that NXT 2.0 became NXT again with Shawn Michaels in charge.
These few examples prove that WWE was in a better position than ever before. However, the ego of Vince McMahon knows no boundaries. He didn't want to acknowledge that the company could go on without his approval so he weasel his way back into the business, despite the ramifications it could cause down the road. I gotta feeling that the next time he is ousted from WWE, he won't be coming back at all.
But of course, I will believe it when I see it.

I’m not going to see Vince. McMahon has never done anything for the wrestling business, but I don’t think he’s the absolute genius people made him out to be. He knew how to expand better than anyone else. I’ll give him that but other than the undertaker most of the successes that were there were guys doing gimmicks they were doing before they got to the WWF like Hulk, Hogan, or guys like Steve Austin, Shawn, Michaels, The Rock, those guys were just given the greenlight by Vince McMahon to do what they want because he had no other choice because he was getting his butt kicked by WCW. But really since the attitude era, I have never seen anyone get in their own company’s way of being even more successful than it could be like Vince McMahon. Most of the success they’ve had the last 20 years was because of who they used to be and that they are the last wrestling company left from when pro wrestling was great. I’m not someone that hates John Cena or Roman reigns. I feel like both those guys deserve to be Main event guys that hold multiple world championships but what kills me is when I look at guys like Dolph Ziggler, and probably 50 other people that could’ve been the next Shawn, Michaels, or the next Steve, Austin, or whatever and for whatever reason, Vince just forgot what got him to the dance. Just the way he handled the invasion angle and everything after that it just all went downhill. I haven’t been able to watch WWE television on a weekly basis since 2006 because it’s frustrating knowing how great it used to be. He needs to just step down and go away. I don’t care if he keeps collecting a check, but he doesn’t need a hand in running this company anymore.

I can imagine how successful they could have been if say Cena turned heel or even if they did the Tribal Chief gimmick before the pandemic happened. Heck, I still wish that we got to see Sting vs. Undertaker as well as Bray Wyatt being push properly [RIP]. Those are a few examples I can think of at the moment.
Had he simply retired 10 years ago, most of his critics would have been kinder to the man. However as Harvey Dent said in the Dark Knight:

Vince McMahon has morphed into power hungry cartoon villain with that pencil stash on his lip. The Endeavor deal was always a cover for him to come back and stay on as executive chairmen. It also gave him the opportunity to clean house at WWE headquarters of the disloyal scum that tried to steal his company from him. Vince is back now and he is more powerful than ever before. He knows that with Ali he has the job for life which is the only reason why he sold the company. Vince McMahon is biggest winner of the Endeavor deal while Stephanie and Triple H are the biggest losers. It would be funny if Stephenie McMahon was the one who leaked the sex scandal reports. If this ends being true then HBO or USA Network needs to make Succession style show around the McMahon family.
