  • LSU and Brian Kelly started spring ball on Thursday, March 9 with a lot of new faces, but still returning plenty of players from last season’s 10-4 SEC Western Division championship team.

I think it’s gone b a close race but Brian Kelly is doing the right thing keeping the competition open if you wanna get the best out of a qb I think it’s good to have a guy that’s playing just as well in practice jaden daniels needs it his running ability and decision making will push him forward as the returning starter he won’t put the offense in a bad spot too often for sure not gone throw many interceptions same with the tailback position Armani Wilson will push emery and bring the best out of him Noah Cain is gonna push Armani so this room will be very competitive I think it’ll pay off on the field especially behind the all world o-line

So here's my new take on the situation. Garrett Nussmeier will inevitably be named the starter for LSU in 2023.
Why? Because if Nuss hits the transfer portal because he is being forced to waste another year sitting on the bench behind an inferior QB, then true freshman Rickie Collins moves up the list to not only be JD5's backup QB but Rickie Collins, who is not close to being in Nuss' league, would also end up being the presumed starter at QB in 2024.
Thus, does Brian Kelly worship JD5 so much that he is willing to sacrifice Nuss and then have a super inexperienced QB as the starter in 2024. Not to mention a true freshman backup QB in 2023.
I mean, common-sense dictates under the circumstances that Nuss, who legitimately is the best QB on this team and it is not even close, be named the starter at QB for the 2023 season with JD5 as his backup and wildcat QB.
As Brian Kelly will desperately need the experience of Nuss in 2024 unless he is willing to sacrifice Nuss together with the 2024 season just so JD5 can be the starter in 2023. Meanwhile, JD5 is not even close to being the best QB on this team.
I mean, how much is Brian Kelly willing to sacrifice for the one-dimensional run first pass second sack machine JD5? He already lost one of the best QBs (Walker Howard) in all of college football earlier this year because of this situation. Is he prepared to lose Nuss and the 2024 season as well for JD5 to be the dysfunctional starter at QB again 2023?
Brian Kelly is in a very precarious position and is walking a very thin line. What he does in the coming weeks will tell us a lot about what kind of head football coach Scott Woodward hired for LSU.
Meanwhile, I hope Brian Kelly doesn't try to foolishly compromise by trying to make JD5 and Nuss the co-starters the same way he did last year because that will also inevitably blow up in his face. But watching Brian Kelly operate so far, I would not put it pass him.

I’m not reading all that. Y’all stress y’all selves out with this qb conversation. National media vs local media is hilarious lol

Sigh, you’ll be wrong again. JD5 will be playing every down vs Florida state. Nuss will not be the starter kiddo

@@coreyrogers5358 If you are correct and you may be, then that means that Brian Kelly is cutting his own throat and LSU's at the same time too.
Moreover, if JD5 is playing every down vs Florida State, that means Nuss will be starting in 2023 for another head football coach not named Brian Kelly.
I hope Brian Kelly is happy with true freshman Rickie Collin at backup QB in 2023 and with redshirt freshman Rickie Collins as the starter at QB in 2024 when LSU has to play USC, UCLA, plus LSU new nine game SEC schedule. That's going to be one gauntlet of a schedule.
I mean, things could go south very fast for Brian Kelly. As no way LSU wins as many games in 2023 as it did in 2022 with JD5 as the starter at QB. The offense will be far too one-dimensional and easy to stop.
Meanwhile, with redshirt freshman Rickie Collins at QB next year in 2024, I wouldn't be surprised to see the season end up being another disaster.
Then Brian Kelly ends up being fired and maybe this second time around, you never know, Woodward will be smart enough to give Lane Kiffin a shot.
Nonetheless, if I were Brian Kelly, I'd play it safe and name Nuss the new starter at QB for the 2023 season with JD5 as his backup. As Nuss is by far the best all around QB on the team in any event, and then in 2024 Nuss will be a very experienced and super talented QB when Brian Kelly will need him the most.
I mean, it's up to him. I really don't care what he does one way or the other. I'm just an interested bystander .
