How to Start a Nitro Engine after long term storage | Hobao Hyper 7

  • This hobby tends to be quite seasonal, leaving us with engines that are sat for long periods of time. In this video I show you the steps I take to start a Nitro engine easily, even if it's been left for a while. I'm using a Hobao Hyper 7 that I recently bought second hand from eBay - that hasn't been started for 5 years!

    I sleep easier at night knowing my nitros have no fuel and after run oil in the engine haha. I suppose lots of people don't look after their things but in this hobby if you look after the engine you'll always get a good price if you're selling a car on. . . so why not look after them. Good man

      I am guilty of not using AR oil on some of mine when I packed it in 3 years ago. Managed to get away with it though, probably because they were kept in the loft (warm!) so less chance of corrosion etc .

    Just a little warning when blowing into the pressure line, make sure you pinch the tube with your fingers after you blow into it as there is a possibility of 'blow back' and fuel could come back through pressure tube and into your mouth or face (It happened to me once).

    • @TheRCBiker
      @TheRCBiker  Před 4 lety

      Hi there, It could be revving high because of the carb gap or because of tuning (possibly both). Cutting out could be for the same reasons, or even a dodgy glow plug. This would need a bit of fault finding, if you send me a video of the issue to my facebook page (facebook.com/thercbiker) then I'll be happy to help

    Question :why nitro rc cars have a tube going from the tank to the tuned pipe while gasoline ones don’t?

    • @TheRCBiker
      @TheRCBiker  Před 4 lety

      Good question! Petrol 2 strokes have a "diaphram" (not sure of spelling?) in the carb which pulls fuel through , like a fuel pump. Therefore the tank doesn't need pressuring like a nitro, actually the opposite - petrol fuel tanks have a breather hole instead!

    Hello good friend 😁I really enjoy your videos and all the help you have given me. I have another question for you, I have a JL .28 Ofna motor. My problem with this motor is keeping it running, it'll start and stay at idle but as soon as I give it a little bit of throttle it shuts off. Any ideas what's going on and how to keep it running??? The motor has lots of compression, 1mm gaping, ideal screw is flush, high-end screw is 3 trying out. And a new glow plug. Help

      TheRCBiker quick question man, the main issue why it got put in storage was because i had an issue with the controls transmitter, is possible to swap it for a new 2.4ghz transmitter without swapping the current stock receiver ? Or do i need a new receiver ?

    • @TheRCBiker
      @TheRCBiker  Před 4 lety

      Is the receiver it's got at the moment 2.4ghz? If so you can buy a replacement transmitter the same and then bind it to the existing receiver.
      If the receiver is an AM or FM one then you'd need to buy a new receiver too. To be honest it's often barely any more expensive to buy a Transmitter/ Receiver Kit rather than just the Transmitter on its own anyway

    How can you tell if an engine has or has not been broken in or would you recommend doing a break-in procedure on a second hand engine as a precaution? I have a sledgehammer MGT

    • @TheRCBiker
      @TheRCBiker  Před 4 lety +1

      Breaking in a used engine wouldn't be of any benefit because by that time the damage will be done
      It's difficult to tell if an engine has been broken in and some people report that they don't bother with break ins yet the engines run fine. But usually an engine that didn't have a good start in life will have low compression and be difficult to start & tune
