Any contest or talent show judge ought to never even think of behaving like an incarnated shitstorm, talking to persons assumably struggling with increased risks of (definitely) depression and, though rarely, even (potentially) suicide.
I'd rather prepare a standard reply for cases like this, also - as media conversation remarks and comments mainly address the audience at least as much as the individuals obviously involved - working as a general recommendation. Like the following.
“Have you got a video camera allowing takes of bearable quality?”
“Um ... no. My smartphone can ...”
“That's ok, too, if you add a compatible mike. Or a genuine video camera. Nowadays, you can find lots of affordable and appropriate devices both in physical stores and online. Plus a tripod, of course. And then, imagine you are performing for TV or some online video platform. And watch the results thoroughly, so you get a clue what you may improve. Or use the clips to ask folks with experience, if not as artists or coaches, then as critical but appreciating audience, and listen to what they wish to see or hear but still don't, and decide if you like to meet these expectations, or develop alternative ideas you prefer. Good luck, and maybe we'll see you someday soon.”
