  • For St. Patrick’s Day, there’s probably no better place to celebrate the lucky holiday than Ireland itself. Travelzoo’s senior editor Gabe Saglie brought Fox 59 viewers a live look from the heart of the festivities.

This country takes other countries holidays and markets them and makes them into something they're not just like this holiday.
Saint Patrick's Day is a Christian holiday and it's got to do with Saint Patrick who converted his people to Christianity and has nothing to do with the lost sheeple getting stupid drunk in this country and making fools out of themselves, that's not what Christians are supposed to be all about and is certainly not something Jesus want for us to do.
I highly doubt these people celebrate the holiday for its really about but just want to get involved so they can party.

St. Patrick's Day has a rich history that many don't know about! Saint Patrick dedicated most of his life to bringing the Gospel to parts of northern Ireland, and over time this made him known as the "Apostle of Ireland". St. Patrick built and left a legacy for generations to come, and we remember his impact on March 17th, the date of his death.

Eh, no there weren't! Parades came from the United States from the diaspora. Not Ireland. Traditionally people went to Mass and wore shamrock. THAT was the wearing of the green. There was no mention of leprechauns, badges, silly hats, wearing green clothes, marching bands etc. People were given a reprieve from their Lenten fasts so the lads went to the pub and had a few pints. Women usually stayed at home because it wasn't ladylike to be out drinking like that. Only women of a certain reputation did those sort of things. Some places had the tradition of a Trad session and story telling as was the custom of the day and those were usually held in people's houses. Marching bands were rare and usually military related. SAINT Patrick's Day is honoring the Saint himself . "Paddy's Day (or Patty's Day as some American's incorrectly call it because Patty here is Patricia) no longer honors or represents our Patron Saint or the Irish. Its a government construct to promote tourism. It unfortunately just amplifies foreigners beliefs about us as a population. Such as there's no such thing as an Irish person who doesn't drink. If they're not drinking they're a recovering alcoholic...even though many people in Ireland don't drink alcohol and never did. However our young people now believe that this is part of their identity thanks to these festivities. We have never put shamrocks in pints. We do not turn the water green unless there's been a chemical spill. What's the story with four leaf clovers? Shamrocks have three "leaves". Leprechauns are evil as are fairies if anyone actually bothered to read Irish mythology and are part of superstition. So why don't we all celebrate SAINT Patrick's Day by insulting him. You want to be truly Irish? Be a rebel. Go to Mass.

@@falloutpipboy Pardon you dear, Americans may have a bigger parade and probably do, "do it better" but neither parade has very much to do with Catholic/Christian Irish culture. The Saint that its supposed to honor is often left out. Shamrocks have three leaves because that's what St. Patrick used to explain the Holy Trinity. We do not use four leaf clovers. Leprechauns and fairies were evil yet they're celebrated in these parades as are pagan gods such as Baal but they are the closest to Irish culture - only its pagan Irish culture and it often involved human sacrifice. They're also anti-Christian which in turn is anti-Saint Patrick who came and witnessed to Christ in this country. Lets be honest here. The only thing this is, is a big party using the excuse that its St. Patrick's Day and that it represents the Irish. In reality, its no different to Moses coming down the mountain to find the people prostrating themselves before the golden calf. But hey, that's todays Ireland isn't it? Non-practicing Catholics, and non-Catholics all into abortion, divorce, assisted suicide, pornography, drunkeness, drugs, any kind of a sexual relationship going and whatever else "buzz" they can get because life is all about the self and personal pleasure even when they're in a crowd. Any excuse for a party to cover up the pain this country is really in. Any of this sounding familiar? You want to honor St. Patrick and the Irish? Get your ass to Mass and pray for us.
