@@magusperde365 MissingNo is actually kind of awful since it has 0 def, both its types can’t be super effective on anything (it can’t even learn a Bird type attack so it’s worthless) and although it has a quite good coverage its really low Special makes it dependent on physical moves to do decent damage. The only thing going for it is its really high Attack, but with lower Speed than Caterpie and non-existent bulk, MissingNo is a really bad Pokemon. However, there are some glitch Pokemon that are actually broken and can definitely destroy the entire game in a solo run.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he's friends with Lance. When Lance became champion, Bruno got an undeserved promotion in to 3rd elite 4.
He was supposed to be the first Gym leader, but they found him too tough-looking, so they created Brock for that role. Which is funny, because Brock has been a bigger obstacle in this series than Bruno has.

Me, a gen 1 veteran: "Oh, this is gonna hurt."
I mean, Dragonite has worse stats than Mew (same base stat total but *much* slower, the attack isn’t the most important, and less bulk for what it’s worth), a worse experience group, and a worse movepool, though they both have poor starting moves. *And* no STAB, so arguably worse typing too. I’m not sure why it was even considered as a contender to beat Mewtwo, though it’s 100% a cool run to see!
Same. Dragonite is OK but for a Pseudo Legendary, Dragonite sucks. I used a Dragonite a lot in Pokemon Stadium and while it had the best Atk stat, the lack of ANY good moves for it meant that you were forced to wait until it learned Hyper Beam or just treat it as a Special Sweeper. Unless you wanted to cheese with Wrap as Dragonite was the best trapper in the Gen though I was never patient enough for such a slow strategy.

The problem with a run with Dragonite is you have to use Dratini to get Hyperbeam at level 50. If Dragonite has Hyperbeam its much better. I had a feeling it wasn't going to beat Gengar or Alakazam.

This video really shows off how big of an advantage starting the game with a full power psychic attack is
Probably any high stab move with the right stats, but yeah right out of the gate mewtwo with psychic is pretty 'legendary'
Pokés that just start with a normal attack (non-stab) or worse just run into a Brock-Wall for like an hour, unless you can make it up later like Mew because of an insane movepool, it's just brutal.
Hence why gamefreak used rock for the first 3 of 4 gyms, and fire/fighting for 3 - rock is the perfect "first gym" type if you give the fire starter metal claw or a fighting move. Everyone early game poké has jack shit to deal with it, but the starters will sweep through it. Makes rock pokémon look way more intimidating. Like, Onix is legendarily garbage and only impressive exactly as Brock's ace because it's high-level for that point in the game and then its defence which makes up nearly half its BST means something.
Now imagine GF learned their lesson and stopped making the ice gym 7th or higher every gen since it also would be a wonderful early gym with its glass cannon nature when not everyone and their mom has an answer to them.

I feel like Starmie has a chance of being up there with the legendary birds. Brock is a joke, letting you plow past gym 1 right away. Despite the fact it doesn't learn moves on its own, you get BubbleBeam very early. Once you get past Misty and Surge the run opens up a lot. And both of those fights aren't horrible. Starmie can even learn thunderbolt from Surge and put it to good use. But the run really starts to get stupid if you pick up both ice beam and psychic.
Would really love to see the Starmie run !
Misty will probably wall you, personally i think Aerodactyl or dugtrio are going to be more viable. I know the type matchup isnt in their favor but the critical hit abuse is insane
@@GhengizKanye Misty is certainly not easy, but the key, I think, is that you can beat rival 2 without too much difficulty first and you have access to the badge boost to get past Misty.

SwSh were not balanced around infinite grinding in the wild area. You can easily break the game if you do that, not just by getting good moves but also by being very overleveled quickly. The TMs in comparison are way worse, probably about as bad as in gen 2, so you will lack good moves if you don't abuse the wild area.
I hope to see Hitmonlee one day. His Meditate carried me through the whole game with minimum battles, so he has a special place in my heart.

I'm curious how Snorlax would do. Might not be the fastest, especially since it doesn't learn another move until level 35, but it would be a different kind of run. Maybe its vast TM/HM moveset would give it an advantage?

Unfortunately arcanine has a pretty mediocre move pool. Takedown and ember are its starting moves, and while it does get access to dig and body slam, that’s about all it can do. Gyarados is sure to be a pain to get past in the endgame.
It would do OK, but certainly worse than Dragonite.

@Claude Von Riegan Best starter against Starmie is Venusaur; Blastoise can't do shit to Starmie while Starmie learns Thunderbolt, while Venusaur can be hit by Psychic but if it's not OHKO'd it'll actually deal serious damage back, including being able to bypass badge boosts with Razor Leaf.
My personal pick is Dugtrio; starts off with a 100 base power ground move in dig, has a 100% chance to crit with slash and can learn body slam and rock slide. With dig it breezes past brock, Misty might give some trouble but you could always do the rival and nuggest bridge first, Surge is a joke as is Koga. By the time you get around to Ericka it should have Slash which will deal with some of the grass Pokemon. Sabrina isn't an issue with Dugtrio's speed and Blane also becomes a joke. Giovanni will be easy and then it gets Earthquake. Earthquake mops up Loreli, Bruno and Agatha. Lance is a bit trickier but hopefully a crit slash should be enough to deal with gyarados.
@Claude Von Riegan Except again, Blastoise can't do anything to Starmie, all it gets are crappy Normal moves or moves that are resisted by Starmie on top of having mediocre Special, while Venusaur can actually kill a healthy Starmie if it isn't OHKO'd. Venusaur's Special is also higher than Blastoise's in Gen 1, so a STAB Psychic isn't doing that much more damage to it than Thunderbolt is to Blastoise, both should be either getting 2HKO'd or OHKO'd after badge boosts. Plus there are multiple Rival battles earlier in the game before Starmie can get Psychic (Starmie can't get Psychic until you get the TM, and Starmie won't learn any other Psychic-type moves before then).

@@RosyKitteh there's a new mechanic called dynamax, basically a pokemon becomes huge and his moves get a power boost, there's raids where you can fight those pokemon to gain exp and instruments

But to answer your question there are giant building sized Pokémon that you fight 4 on 1. Not as interesting as it sounds just YT Pokémon raid battles.

I actually like how you pronounce Lorelei's name. "Lei" is the old German term for a stoney area in an otherwise foresty terrain. AS far as I remember this exact type of terrain is called "leigh" in English. So your pronaunciation is right in it's own way (even so Stadium and all the comments on that are right, as the name itself should be pronounced German ^^). The thing is as great as Body Slam is its not that much better than cut so I feel you have to reward someone a little bit for finding it. If I'm not mistaken you actually get mega punch much quicker.

So I’m new to these kinds of runs, but what amazed me the most was you changing a Pokémon’s move set in the middle of a Pokémon league run. That just goes against everything I have learned and known, you walk in with the best team, with the best moves, and the best items... and this guy just comes in and flips the game upside down. I’m still baffled... but great run, watched the whole thing.
I enjoy that you switched from making them bonus videos to making them part of the series. Those this mean that you'll eventually do every pokemon that can be solo runned in Gen 1? That would be a fun couple of days to binge watch when completed.

To be honest, Dragonite is very similar to Gyarados. Only 20 more base stats overall and a very similar stat distribution too. Of course he's trading the Water typing for Dragon which is slightly better resistance wise but misses out on STAB Surf/Hydropump and can't actually learn Hydropump, yet he can still Surf oddly enough. All in all the extra resistances Dragon offers over Water are rather insignificant by the time you make it to the elite 4 whereas STAB Surf and access to Hydropump can come in handy(depending on your rival's composition mostly) but isn't crucial or anything. So slightly better stats, slightly worse Water moves, all in all pretty even and thus I expected very similar results.

I swear Tackle miss like hell when I play Pokémon Blue for some reason and it annoys me. Something similar happens to me in Pokémon Stadium with a different move.
