  • Thank you for watching!
New Year's Eve is a spring cleaning day in Japan. We clean the house to prepare for a fresh new year.
So I made the second video for DIY Zokin making!
Zokins are Japanese style reusable cleaning cloths. We often make them using worn out cloths so that we can keep using before throwing them away! We use them to wipe all sorts of surface areas in a house and even classroom floors at school!
Since they are made from cloths, you can wash them in a washing machine (make sure to dry properly after washing!).
By making Zokins, you can reduce wastes by repurposing your clothes and avoiding single-waste cleaning wipes.
In the first video, I showed how to make Zokins from a tea towel.

In this video, I will show how to turn T-shirts into Zokins.
T-shirt fabrics are stretchy and thin. Also, they are not rectangular.
So there are some tips for turning them into Zokins.
Please try if you have any worn out cloths!

I come from a line of folks who tore or cut irreparable garments into "rags". Never thought to add stitching to enhance strength and longevity.

      Thank you for watching❤️
In Japanese, rags are called ‘Boro’.
In the old days, rags were used to mend and strengthen worn-out clothes. I read that people in poverty couldn’t afford to throw them away because cotton was too precious for them.
Zokin is still used in the modern days though. When I was little, I had to bring Zokin to school every year for cleaning (kids clean their classrooms and other areas in Japan😊).

Thank you for this great idea. I've just had a big clean out of my cupboards and I have many T shirts to throw away. I'll do this instead as I don't like microfibre cleaning cloths.
    Happy New Year!
