    Good to see someone actually using this awesome filter to it's full potential, namely losing the sponges and cramming it full of bio media. In the pre filter I use a combination of 2x 30ppi sponges on top, 2x 45ppi sponges in middle and 2x 60ppi sponges on bottom. This way I'm collecting all the debris before it reaches the main canister but also helps to keep better flow without having to clean the sponges as regularly.

    • @Alfakyn1
      @Alfakyn1 Před 2 lety

      Hey, just a question, why not the other way around for the sponge on the pre filter ?
      I ordered this filter to replace my Eden 522, waiting for it to arrive, and I'm looking for informations around.
      Thanks for your answer :).

    • @jdthebear1
      @jdthebear1 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Alfakyn1 the pre filter sponges that come with the filter (blue) are medium and will clog up quickly so depending on your stock levels, will clog up faster. More changes, granted only the pre filter, but also greater loss of flow rate quicker. Course sponges (orange) are better on the pre filter, they will collect the large debris but the smaller debris will go through to the main hub of the filter which is then collected in the fine filter floss used in the bottom tray so the bio media in the rest of the filer trays stays clean and flow rate should be better for longer. czcams.com/video/JKy0kVbd4Gs/video.html

    • @Alfakyn1
      @Alfakyn1 Před 2 lety

      @@jdthebear1 yeah but why are you using the 3 different types in your pre filter ?
      All I read everywhere was saying go orange cause you will get less loss of flow rate.
      I'll use mine in a 90L tank and will clean the prefilter every week so I think it's gonna be ok with the one already installed in. But I'll test the orange ones anyway I think.

    • @jdthebear1
      @jdthebear1 Před 2 lety

      @@Alfakyn1 I tried all blue and I was having to clean it 3 times a week (heavily stocked African cichlid tank) as the flow just died to nothing after 2-3 days. Went with all orange and the flow was great all week round, still cleaning them once weekly with my weekly water change, but then found the filter pads in my bottom tray were getting dirty more quickly. Using the combination of blue and orange and the flow remains steady throughout the week (noticeable slowing down on last day before water change/clean) and also keeps the pads within the filter cleaner for longer so less cleaning of them. I clean the pads and media in main canister once a month.

    One good tip for maintenance is to get yourself some food grade safe silicone grease and lubricate all of the O-rings and seals. That way you're making sure they last a long time.

      I have both the 350 and the new 800 series from oase. The inflow and out flow pipes have a dial that you can adjust the flow rates right before they exit and enter the tank. I wouldn't recommend you adjust flow at the canister, as this could cause a leak of either air or worse, water. I love both of my filters and highly recommend them for ease of cleaning, dead quiet operation and quality of filtration overall. It's money well spent!!
