      I think it's a mix, but you're mostly right. I think there is a tribal gene where people are OCD about identity, but I think that's a very small amount of the makeup of racist people. Probably just a lot of them that are like the dude from American History X where they see 1 scenario and start treating it as everyone from x group is bad and y group is inherently superior.

And they also seem to include not in on Boston but near Boston communities like Cambridge Somerville. So I think it just gets chopped up by neighborhood more. I'm from Milwaukee Wisconsin as well. My mother moved us to Belleville Illinois back in 1985. Milwaukee has an extremely high crime rate! When we moved to Belleville Illinois was a time in my life I experienced a high level of racism. If we walked out of our home to go to the store ( to play the arcades) the police would drive slowly behind us to try to scare us. They would park in the cemetery across from our house and watch our house and stop blacks who were driving through Belleville. Here is my thought: White Americans, why sell your homes to Afro Americans if you don't want us in your neighborhood? We were not ghetto. My mother had a good job and was buying our home not renting! She chose that city because of the better education for us. In Milwaukee I went to Hampton Elementary school and Green Bay Elementary. In a while class myself and maybe two others were the only blacks. Same thing when we moved to Belleville. Only time I was accepted was when they needed my 6 foot 3 butt to help in sports.

      I lived in West Helena for under a year once with my husband his family live there on his mother's side. His brother paid extra money to live in an area of town. Where only the white peopleolivia's dinner area of town we're homely black people ahead. We're white. Everybody looked at us funny and was scared of us. There later we found out we actually lived in the middle of the king territory down there and we would walk down the street with our 3 kids. Cause we didn't have a car and we would walk every week. 2 miles down the road to Walmart. And biological groceries that we needed for the week. And walked back and we would wave and say hi to the men with rifles setting on their porch. Which we?
      Knew was not normal, but we'd still wave and say hi and be a light thinking. Maybe this would keep them from shooting us and we go to the Store. We come back home and we'll be nice on the way back home. You know, come to find out they were all drug. Lord people and the reason they didn't bother us was because we were the crazy white people that lived there and. They were afraid we were either the cops.Or crazier than that's what we were told right before we moved which I find quite funny.We even went to the black church.😂😂😂😂 I actually really liked it there for the most part. I hated the heat. The humidity is horrible and they were a few other things. I didn't like there the library. Having less books than I did was awful but there were some nice things there. And I liked the people that I was around in the Portage town. I was around. They were nice.

      @@lauracrabtree1040 I drove to Elaine to commemorate the centennial of the race massacre that happened there. When we got there, the only road that led to Elaine was blocked-off for construction, but there wasn't any equipment. Everyone had to take a 15 minute detour through this maze of cow fields to get there. The African American preacher who spoke said he had been black too long to think that was a coincidence. He had armed bodyguards. I found out later that there were two truckloads of white folks in white trucks who drove very slowly by the cultural center we were in. As I drove back I kept looking at the wealth gap evidenced by the houses on elevated ground across the street from the houses that looked like they were barely above the flood basin. I looked at all the huge cypress trees that were in the river and wondered how many souls they preside over that perished seeking refuge from the mob.

    • @kimberlycooley3801
      @kimberlycooley3801 Před rokem

      @savinghistory642 There were many successfully run communities and cities in the US. One was bombed - Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There were 20 plus similar areas around the country. All of them were destroyed within one year when expressways were built in the cities. Before they were destroyed through the use of "eminent domain" laws, ordinances were set in in place - what neighborhoods the displaced People of Color could move to, jobs they could hold (many were business owners.), etc.
      Paradise Valley and Black Bottom were two examples in Detroit, Michigan. Eminent Domain laws were used and the majority of the businesses closed. Most business owners were shut down permanently because they didn't own their buildings. The owners were compensated, they were not. Furthermore, zoning laws prevented them from opening or receiving the necessary permits to re-open in other areas. Most wound up working assembly at Ford Motor Company then later Chrysler (now Stellantis) or General Motors. Theater option was domestic work or manual labor.
      I know this because I am a decendant of a Black Bottom business owner. My family's history was different than most. The Juke Box owner liked my family. He got a lease for their restaurant in a neighborhood they were not allowed. When the building owners found out, they were FURIOUS! My Grandmother was a beautiful woman - statuesque, elegant, and had an engaging laugh and personality. Her food was amazing (Shrimp, Chicken, Fish, and Oysters). Her business to this day would still be state-of-the-art with the exception of her point of sale system. She was opened for over 60 years then retired.
      That's just ONE instance. There are hundreds of thousands more! Other people were not so fortunate. They were forced into work they didn't want. If they managed to acquire commercial space and others joined them, suddenly a new expressway, boulevard, etc would get built and eminent domain took away again.
      All this is provable! The main public library in Detroit has "The Burton Collection" online. The City of Detroit is now acknowledging this past and rebuilding an area taken.
      "Redlining" is another reason. How do you operate a city with low resources due to redirected federal dollars, charged higher for taxes and utilities, target limits on standard municipal services, etc. This system will change. In fact, it's changing! That's why the fear, lies, and rhetoric like yours.

    I had the misfortune of living for two years in Jacksonville, Florida, when my company closed down the former main office in New Jersey and paid for me to relocate there. There were only 4 people in my department, and I was the only Jewish person. The black maintenance person had to paint over the racist and antisemitic graffiti, including swastikas, on a weekly basis in the bathroom that my department used. Furthermore, I had to drive past billboards going to work that were tagged with huge swastikas. I hated living there. Right after I moved, the mayor (who was actually quite a reasonable person) decided that black college students didn't have anywhere to go for Spring Break, so he thought it would be a great idea to turn Jacksonville into a 'destination' vacation spot for black universities. Cool idea, except that the students discovered when they got there, that the police and residents were not quite as welcoming as the mayor, and they spoke up about how terribly they were treated.
    BTW, there is racism EVERYWHERE. When I was a high school student, I attended a summer science symposium at Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland Ohio. I expected (and mostly met) some really smart students there from all over the country. Unfortunately, I also met this one white kid who bragged that when he got home, he would prove to his father that he wasn't afraid to shoot 'n*****s'. I CERTAINLY did not want him to ever find out I was Jewish. Obviously, I kept my distance.
    Also, while growing up in suburban New York, I witnessed a race riot IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I had no idea just how racist my neighbors were, until one family decided to move out and rumor had it that he was selling his house to a black family (note that most people probably never realized that we already had a black family living there -- I only knew because I was part of the literary magazine at my high school, and they guy was a talented dancer and poet and actually was the editor of the literary magazine.
    Anyway, one of my good old neighbors threw a brick through a window of the family's house, and either the same or different person vandalized their car by slashing the tires. My family has always been very liberal, and my dad (who actually had been honored by a church in Harlem for representing them in a case) decided to go out and confront the people who were rioting and tried to calm them down. I was watching the whole thing through my bedroom window, afraid for what might happen. Soon, they did quiet down and everyone went home. But I never saw our neighbors again in the same way.
