The Story of Rimba ENGLISH VERSION

  • "The Story of Rimba" is a film I did more than 10 years ago for the BOS Foundation. At the time I thought that this film would be quickly outdated because I was confident that the orangutan problem and deforestation would get under control. I was wrong unfortunately.
    Orangutans are still being killed, rescue centers continue to be flooded with new orphan babies and injured and sick adults. What a shame for this country.
    The film was not designed for an International Tv audience but to reach Indonesian people and make them understand the suffering of these great apes and the danger of loosing them for ever if we pursue our blindness destruction of nature.
    During my "40 Years in Indonesia" travels across the country I show this film in villages and schools and there are a lot of emotions and feed back from the audience.
    Hopefully it can help make a small difference ...

    We lived in the bush on the outskirts of Auckland, we used to have wood pigeons, tuis, fantails, native owls but after a new subdivision started and cut the bush they have disappeared. They will never be back so treasure what you have before it is too late

    The evil people do is mind boggling! Compassionate humans need to be smarter than ever to help the rainforests and its wildlife to survive! Buying or leasing lands create at least small pockets of the ancient leftover heavens. It it is heaven. The misty jungle at the beginning of the video was absolutely breathtaking! @tfs2O3 what are you talking about? It's 1st world countries that are still taking advantage of those 3rd world ones. Look at Costa Rica, for example, a country with a tradition of protecting the environment within their numerous conservation parks and yet government officials in charge of overseeing that protection are accepting bribes from the likes of Taiwan to let them fish for sharks within their marine parks to harvest their fins. There was a documentary years ago exposing this. Governments in poor countries are corrupt. No government officials in Costa Rica have ever gone to jail for this atrocity. Indonesia doesn't even punish the poachers who are killing the mothers of these baby orangutans so that they can rip them off their lifeless bodies and sell them to the highest bidders in the pet trade. Indonesia also sells land, the habitats of orangutans, to palm oil plantations that deforest these lands for profit. Most of the people in the world, except a few like some scientists, don't care either about the predicament these innocent babies are in. Greed and apathy, not poor education, is what's descimating these lovely creatures and countless others. We all are complicit to these crimes against nature, we see it going on and yet don't raise our voices to enact change. One of these days, however, Nature is going to fight back, hopefully, and with a swipe of it's mighty hand will wipe the slate clean.

    • @greekossandals
      @greekossandals Před 4 lety +8

      Well...average citizens can still vote with their dollars. Who do you think is using the palm oil? Most of it is exported to countries like the US. Unless you avoid all products containing this stuff (and it’s in almost everything that’s processed), you play a part in this little drama, so no matter how loud, long, intelligently, or self righteously you discourse, you still contribute to this problem.
      They wouldn’t grow this shit if there wasn’t a demand for it, and you’ll find it’s extremely difficult to avoid-it is in so many products, not just food..

They are my favorite humans, but I know the story is going to end up with this baby having a better life but because I have so much respect for these animals, I noticed that when you said no, animals are harmed in this program, while putting smoke in the babies face is more than enough and putting them in small cages even for transfer is putting home to my favorite little human.

    It's a very touching film and I'm glad its had positive effects. So please don't take the following as a criticism or questioning your integrity. I really just want to understand.
    Because, I'm so confused. Was this a fictional story made with a mix of real and staged footage? How were you able to keep track of one orangutan for so many years? Maybe the one that does freak me out is about the family nit having a permit. What kind of permit would allow them to have a pet orangutan?
    Is there somewhere this informative is already available at?

Do you knot see the school and care set up for these animals or did you miss the beauty in that while being above other humans. Your kind are the first to want everyone else wiped off the planet. We are here for a reason this is our world also. Did you know that 85 percent of all species were wiped out several thousand years ago by natural causes. Well guess you best hate the earth and find it cruel. It did not even look to help save the animals at all. Dont worry these clumate crazies who dont understand science will finish off the only people who care about clumate. White people and. Hina will pouson the whole thing.

      @@darladrury76 S., You put words in my mouth. The important happenings of life are largely determined by money. A black 2 year old child curls up in the dirt, starving. The corespondent's taking photographs with this bag of bones saw all movement stop. This man committed suicide shortly afterward, tormented by what he saw..Many rich country's send food and other assistance each year. The wild animistic criminal gangs steal every bit to sell on the black market. Money will always come first. Our species is hopelessly wicked, violent, and greedy. I thought that they were the foundation people who shot a sedater to capture her and take her to the foundation. But I guess not??
    That smoking scene was also very disturbing. He was smoking on the baby orangutan's face, like wtf?? How on Earth did they manage to follow the poachers and film all this??

      Good question and I do believe the mother orangutan was indeed shot because I paused the footage and somenthing hit her, definitely...you see the impact on her face/forehead and that fall just can't be choreographed. My guess is they followed a hunter who would kill it anyway to make this well intentioned educational film.
