i find it so funny how every time shit like this happens people act like it’s some massive event that needs to be dissected, even though it’s pretty common. I remember a couple years ago, when Rpussell was with Dallas, there was a game where he blew a gasket so bad he left the ice himself, without being ejected. These guys are on edge the entire time they’re on the ice.

If the league suspended Zegras for this action, THAT would be a big deal A misconduct can be anything, including a fight. Maybe he got the misconduct because he just wouldn't stop. He was warned and wouldn't give it up so sit in the box for awhile and cool off.
If you've ever played any serious hockey, players are always saying things to get under each other's skin. Incredibly RUDE things. They're trying to get the other players flustered to get them off their game. It's always been done. No one was injured. People were angry with each other but that happens all the time in hockey.

There's this weird dichotomy among hockey fans where they insist that the NHL has become "too soft" and players don't dislike each other enough or that someone ALLEGEDLY (as per some "professional lip reader" on Twitter) saying something during a scrum has crossed the line and thus makes them an irredeemable person that doesn't deserve their praise. It's so weird.
I think it's cute that a lot of people just assume that Zegras knows the history of every 6-7th defenceman in the league.
Shit like this comes up in conversation. Guys know eachother in the league regardless of where they are on the depth chart buddy lmao. Troy's been an NHL starter for a while now. Are we going to assume he doesn't then?

@@kiroolioneaver8532 and on the flip side you’d be amazed how little they know about a lot of people. About 750 people currently in the NHL, about the same in the AHL.. I think it’s insane to assume he knows something about every single one of them.
Troy’s dad passed away before he was in the league and they’ve never been in the same circle (organization, college alum, country). But yes, sure he could have known. I’m not Trevor, I have no idea what he does or doesn’t know.
I think there’s more that points to him not saying it than saying it. The end of the phrase he said looks less like ‘-ing’ (watching) and more like ‘out’ which he may not have even said either. I also don’t think Eakins is the type coach to let something that egregious be left alone if he had said it. My 2 cents, for whatever it’s worth.
@@chelshock509 Guys have actually talked about this kind of thing before. You know who's on your schedule and whose lines your going to be matched up against and guys do "research"/"homework." So obvs it would be crazy to think they know about all 750+ guys but if you're on a west coast road swing and know you you're going up against and talk to teammates, guys on other teams, use Google you've got plenty of material for who you're going up against.
Let's not forget that this is the same Coyotes organization that defended beating troy Terry's face in and head shoting Zegras in preseason for "Skilling it up" too much.

From the beginning I was looking at that clip and saying to myself "Shouldn't people be more concerned with Zegras cross checking a player in the shoulder/head area while he's defenseless on the ground?" (You know, what he actually got a 10 minute misconduct for)
That’s exactly what stecher was mad about too… drama queens online making their own fanfic.
It's not just Twitter, Reddit was full of the same "experts" too after it happened. I find it very concerning that these fabrications can easily ruin someone's reputation, because people won't verify information they hear is legitimate.

I played pro hockey. Players and fans say some WILD stuff out on the ice. You got to have thick skin. Nothing is off limits to some players and they will really test the lines trying to get under your skin, going as far as really doing their research on opponents and their family situations.

As a soccer fan, we had an incident earlier this year between Liverpool and Arsenal, where Liverpool player Jordan Henderson was accused of saying something wildly inappropriate, which wound Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes up and had him screaming. Everyone thought it was something racist because of Pool player James Milner's reaction and Arse player Granit Xhaka getting involved in the shouting match as well.
FA did some investigating, and... nothing. No punishment, no explanation, nothing at all. Crickets from them, so the take is just allowed to run freely.

Zegras was nineteen when it happened and in the off-season between College and Pros. I seriously doubt he heard that story and remembered it two and a half years later
