Mr. Miyagi: Respect! A lot of knowledge. About Rear Swing-arm bushings: i've replaced the Plastic bushings. Bronce now. Note the Shimmies between frame and swing-arm! Frames depend. About the seat: a lower, shorter SP-seat is available in aftermarket.
Gotta love those XS650's... I've got four of 'em... Pick 'em up (sorta running) for $1200, sink thousands of dollars into 'em having fun & when you want to sell it, somebody will always offer you $800...
Sold it for $4500 not too long ago. Now just down two runners and a couple of motors that need rebuild. Yes you've got to love those xs650's. Thanks for watching.
Great video Mr Miyagi 👍 I’m quite fond of the XS 650. They are great bikes. The good looks of some of the classic British bikes of the 60’s ( my cousins owned Triumphs and BSA’s) . Enjoy your videos and am subscribed. Us old guys gotta stick together. My 70th is coming up next month, Vietnam era Navy vet and retired from over the road trucking after a 35 year long career sometimes I really miss the open road. Take care my friend. A wave 👋 of the hand to you and Mrs Miyagi from Florida. By the way I really enjoyed the original Karate Kid movies. Stay safe.
You must be a great horse-trader for the money in that one. Here in Ohio, a trainwreck of an TX, XS, or even a Special is nearly double what you spent on Momma's. I'm guessing I broke some of your Mrs,, guidelines already especially in the title area, but I rarely see some of these bikes I've spent years looking for, and when they surface the folk selling it wants insane money for them. That's $3,000 or a little less for something that is not original nor is it complete or running most times. The worse part of it is the lies they tell about something they know little about, but use as a lever to justify their asking price. I just shake my head and walk back to the car, to drive home empty handed. Thanks. I'll try and do better next time.
Some of the times I have found xs650 for way too much money and their excuse ,well it is a vintage bike what they mean you said it's a vintage pile of junk. Thanks for watching
What the area ? I've seen some that were $7500 and needed work because they are vintage bike and basically it's a fad now everybody wants an xs but that's okay keeps me busy. Good luck with your buy.
A running, complete TX/XS 650 for $800 is a home run all day long! Great find! I couldn't have gotten my money out fast enough for that. Here in Syracuse, NY, that bike would be at least twice that. On another topic, what do you think of the Kawasaki KZ 750 twin from the late 70's early 80's? I wouldn't mind one of those to keep my XS650 company. My ZG1000 Concours is looking down its nose at my XS. ;-)
I've always liked those KZ750 go for it... yeah I lucked out on this one ... Will be doing follow up videos on the latest.. thanks for watching.. and go get that KZ!
Excellent find, looking forward to the build videos! I got a '72 XS650 in overall good shape but still need some work. The gas tank has a lot of rust inside, do you recommend using citrus acid flush to clean the rust off or some other method? Cheers.
Mahi, In the past I just used some nuts and a cleaning solution the citrus would work and then just shook it around to help break the rust loose but you want to be sure to get all the nuts out and have a magnet handy to do so. Plus you want to flush the tank very well and let it air dry and then do an inspection with a light inside if possible to look through to see if there's any holes.
Yeah that's the problem they're vintage and everybody wants one now to be part of the cool kid thing. And the people that really love them and understand them can't find them for cheap but they're out there. Stuffed in somebody's back garage, in a old shop, underneath the tarp and have no idea of the beauty of it. Good luck mate on your search.
Different subject but I got a new seat cover and a good pan but need to rebuild foam. Do you have any ideas as to how to go about doing it. Thanks for you vids
Old Bike ... If those are original Brake lines most likely they should be replaced after 46 years same with the Intake mounts or Boots check the Chaine and sprockets, How crisp is the wiring ?... some things just don't last 46 years no matter how often you change the oil and replace brake pads .. its 46 years old and you will need to change some things just because of its age .. 800 dollars is a fair deal for a bike that has not been upgraded ... there are things you can't see that just wear out over 26,000 Miles and 46 years ..the Timing Chain and Timing Chain Guides which require removing the Motor. That little "Pop" he mentioned could also be Valves again not an easy fix for an Amature and you will see this in later Vidioes about this Bike. I have watched the other videos about this bike and Mr. Mieagie (a professional Mechanic) puts numerous hours and hundreds of dollars into this bike. If you are not a professional mechanic double the time and remember you will need a shop and tools (which are expensive) I have found most owners of old bikes think just because they run, they are fine, that is FAR from true and if you want concourse dollars for your XS (and you intend to put another 20,000 miles on the bike) it had better be in Concourse condition. I want to hear a litany of things that have been changed over the years while you road the bike not just parked it 15 years ago in a heated garage with a tarp over it, that helps but does not solve the problems I mentioned. Five years ago an XS in good original condition sold for about 1700 dollars today after some have been professionally restored I have seen prices north of 10,000 dollars but that is for a nut and bolt professional restoration, and prices for bikes in far worse shape than the one in this video where people are asking 2500-3500 dollars just because they saw one for 10,000 dollars on the internet. Remember a KTM 690 Duke 3 years old sells for about 4 Grand and although I like the XS650's I am not paying someone 4 Grand for an unrestored or un-ridden bike that has sat for the past 10 years, given my alternatives.
I go completely through all the bikes I get in the shop that one has been upgraded there's videos coming out of me upgrading it and putting in a new motor so yeah I kind of know what I'm doing.
@@outlaw86custom Your Video series has been extremely helpful and informative thanks .. I have followed the progress of this bike and the time and effort you have put into it, I suppose my point was the 800 dollars you spent originally was a fair starting point but the asking price for many old bikes has become unrealistic given the effort and money required to return them to a safe rideable condition.
The reality is the people buying used bikes it's up to them to make it safe I can only give them tips and hints and ideas what they do with that is up to them. I have several young guys that email me all the time for information I try to help him out the best I can without being right there.
@@outlaw86custom Hi I really enjoy all your videos very much. I most recently bought a 1982 XS650S Heritage, with 16,000 on the clock, had sat for 10 years and I am getting caught up on much needed maintenance. Wondered if you can tell me if a set of engine bars, or perhaps safety bars are available for this model of machine and where I could begin to shop for a set? Thanks, Bob in Oregon.

Did you put the old chims back in when you put the swing arm in those were set to hold the swing arm removing. I'll let Mrs Miyagi.
Thank you Mrs. Miyagi for your guest appearance and valuable info.
I just love all the videos !!!

Yep she always saving my butt! Thanks for watching!
Title issues are a big deal in Illinois.
Yeah, putting the bags on it so Mrs. can pick it some eggs and butter?
Why ? We grow our own and make our own butter.

I was going to do a seat recover video but the seat pan I have is crap so it may be a while until I can need to find a good seat pan first.
