- Airstreams are unique and iconic, we thought we would stop by the Tampa Airstream dealership and walk through a few to see what makes Airstream standout. I do have to say I was very impressed with the presentation and style and appreciated the history they displayed at this dealership. It is part of RVone and is the biggest Airstream dealership. Here is a link to their site.bit.ly/2YS7BEb.

Never a bad video when Jared is at the helm! Love your style, your knowledge, and your honest input. Super relatable and helpful! loved this video! Excellent footage & B-roll!!!
I am finishing my rebuild of the 1963 Land yacht. 3 years into the build and hoping to hit the road in a few weeks.
You do such an amazing job on all your RV videos, please do more on the Airstream, you have the ability to make the presentation very comfortable
Great video. Thumbs up! We are actually fortunate enough to own a 2016 25' Flying Cloud. It is our first RV. We bought it new and "full timed" for 9 months from Sept 2016 to July 2017...We still love it. It is very well built and look as good as the day we purchased it (inside and out) One of the reasons we went with an Airstream, is they are timeless. We've parked next to a vintage Airstreams and a 2019 and they all look equally attractive. Nowadays, we only use it maybe 5-6 weekends a year, so we rent it on outdoorsy for $215 a night. Loads of people rent it all year long. Most are folks who don't want to invest in an Airstream but either love them, or just want to treat themselves - some are doing research prior to purchasing ... Best Travel Trailer in the world
My Grandparents had a Airstream and loved it. I was just a kid at the time when they parted ways with it.Oh to have been a adult and have a job then. Always so much fun and so very different from all the rest. Nice video.
A bad investment is does not always appreciate in value. I really enjoy my Airstream. It's a wonderful trailer and I'm so glad I bought it. To me, that's a great investment.
Not for everyone, but I love mine. Tows great, looks great, feels open, and the community is amazing. Bought used and was able to step up several grades and still within my price range. My in-laws are full time RVers and have gone through several models of RV. I love their current Class A diesel pusher, but Airstream is right for us. Simply put, it makes us happy. And isn’t that the total point of RV’s?
Great video! You do an outstanding job of reviewing RV’s as well as related products!
Good stuff. We now own our 2nd AS and have full times in it for 14 months now and have not looked back.
I've taken a tour of the Airstream factory in Jackson Center Ohio. You can see the quality being put into these campers. The employees there really take pride in there work. Generations of families work there.
*their*work 🙄
@Michael Frankel Right I know the difference just an honest mistake.
I have owned two, the second was totaled by hail and cost more to repair than it was worth and was totaled. That said, I really loved my 2009 23 CCD 75th anniversary model. Beautiful interior, sleek lines. Cons, small bathroom, fussy lift system, fussy fridge, fussy water heater, fussy water pressure. For a camper that costs so much an onboard generator would be nice. I do a lot of boondocking so a proper working trickle recharge to the battery would have been nice. Overall, beautiful to look at but requires more maintenance than any other RV I have owned, 5 now.
Loved this video. Have always been curious about Airstreams and the differences between them and other RV types. Would love to see more. Thanks for the info!
Great tour thank you! That flying cloud is amazing!
For just $90-100k, you too can have one!
Thanks for the product information and history lesson. Fascinating. Wish the rest of the industry took quality to heart like AIrstream.
Me too, so many trailers are rushed out of the assembly line with some major issues getting ignored.
Next month marks 4 years living in my 2015 Airstream and everything works well still 👍🏻 Great Video
Jim Watson yes full time year round
Pha Que I’m retired military looking to go full time. Would love an airstream to do it in.
I was just there yesterday!!! If you are in the market for an airstream. This is the place to go !!
Nice video! Airstream owner here. I always cite a few key differences: 1) Airstreams are made to move (even though they are "fancier," in many ways they "simpler" than other RVs in many ways: lighter weight, a little more fragile, no slides, few options/layouts, almost no storage) 2) Everything inside the trailer came in through the door (...so they can be renovated, which is why you see so many old ones.) 3) The iconic look and relative rarity of them does seem to bring a smile to people; this, and the fact that they are essentially "hand made" can make you feel like you're towing a piece of art. In terms of using them, I'd say the biggest difference is the amount of light: windows everywhere!
Airstream Factory Tours are available everyday at 2:00 PM at the Jackson Center, Ohio factory. They are building an completely new facility just outside of Jackson Center. The tour is the best RV factory tour we have taken. You actually see them putting the RVs together.
40 years ago my mom and I lived in a airstream. Very fond memories of that airstream.
Always enjoy your work. Ty
This was wonderful! Thanks Jared!
Nice video. Normally I like the Serenity International, but that Bambi done up in all white!
Wow.
🍃💘🍃
great video! very helpful, thanks!
Crazy huh? We just lucked into our 1995 Airstream before they became crazy popular and we would not trade her for anything...except another Airstream. Love your channel and thanks for all the great videos! Esp the adjustable water pressure gauge.
Great Video. Thank You. Bill
Great video, I’d love to visit that store one day. As an owner of a 22’ sport Bambi Airstream I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The build quality is high and the 22 sport has tons of storage under the bed and a huge closet. Also the bed was the reason we chose that model it’s very large and comfortable. The trailer is easy to tow and I recently was seeing @14.5 mpg towing with f150 on a trip in Montana with several mountain passes. There is a reason airstream has been around since the 30’s. Also yes there are no slide outs and cheesy graphics which appeal to me, different strokes for different folks.
Exactly!
My retirement plan is to get out of nyc buy a small place and get an Airstream. Perhaps the “Bambi”. Even the “Basecamp” is awesome. Great video bro!
You can’t get more iconic than Airstream. Even people who know nothing about rv’s know Airstream. Someday I’ll have one, but with six kids still at home it’s just not an option. Great video Jared.
Airstream 101- super useful and succint as always. I have been wondering about some of this stuff you covered being new to all this and you addressed a lot of my questions as always! TY sir.

Great video and channel. Very informative. Look forward to seeing more videos like this.
Thanks Jared. Enjoy your video a lot.
My first was a ‘72 27’ airstream. Was great. Now I have a 1970 29’ that I’ll be rehabilitating. Love them.
Just bought our first Airstream amazing 😬
My Personal Favorite
Yep considered one but ended up with a Lance. Been happy with our decision so far! 👍🏻
Just recently upgraded to an Airstream Flying Cloud 30FB Bunk and love it. The quality and openness can't be beat.
You hit so many of the advantages of airstreams in your video.
Quality is for sure the most noticable difference.
Good video! Thanks!
Great video production!
I am enjoying the maiden voyage of my new 2021 Classic. It is a wonderful RV experience.😎
As an Aussie, i dont think i have ever seen one on the roads here but i know ive seen them in tv shows & movies.
Always thought they looked really cool & durable.
I saw one up at Cairns a month ago but just caught a glimpse as it was leaving the park , would have loved to have asked the owner his thoughts as our Australian roads are not the best !!
Jared, the video is well made, informative, and in line with the theme of your channel. Thanks for the work you put into making it. As others have stated below, an Airstream is not the best selection for me personally, but there is no denying their popularity or longevity. Are you planning to do similar videos with other manufacturers? Perhaps if more videos are created, highlighting the benefits as well as the consistent issues with the "conveyor belt manufacturing," those manufacturers will be more motivated to make changes in quality?
I like the big open windows. So many travel trailers fall well short in that department and are like tin cans.
When I think of "tin can" in the context of an RV, Airstream is what immediately comes to mind. That is one expensive can, too.
Great Vid.....Great Americana Co.
Great vid. Will put the Tampa location on my to see list. Wish I could afford one. Went with a 2375 Lance.
Jim C. - There are bargains to be found, and there are also companies that rebuild old ones, so if you want a custom unit that costs a third of a new one... go for it!
In my experience, the Lance would be an upgrade in every way except aesthetics and as a social status symbol.
We just bought a 2020 Flying Cloud 25RB last month then the virus quarantine hit our county the day after we got home from a 3 day trip to learn things. :( It tows like a dream compared to the other trailers I've towed. That was the main reason I went with Airstream. You have to tow one to understand the difference.
My aunt owner one of these for years. It just sat in their yard for over a decade and I never knew what it was growing up. If I had known then I would have asked my dad to grab it before she passed and they sold it off not knowing what it truly was. Would have loved to refub a vintage unit at a quarter of the cost of a new one.
Well done overview, thanks. They are built like a tank.
I own a very early 1971 Revcon (71-0004), designed by John Hall, stepson of Wally Byam. We love this very best, least appreciated moho and we get 13 mpg. What do OTHER 25 footers get? WAHOO!
thom wessels I tow a 24 foot and get 20mph
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Although we wish we could have one, it's just too expensive for our budget. Granted, they hold their value a lot better than most, but at our age, it really doesn't matter. I can understand it if you are full time and under retirement age.
Have you looked into a used one?
@@brucealanwilson4121 Yes we did. However, it just didn't fit into our plans with a big dog and a big cat. It would have been a little too cramped for us. A slide out turned out to be a must for us. If it were just me and hubby, it would have been a possibility.
Love my flying cloud ☁️
I love the hatchbacks! But you can only get those on 25ft or larger trailers.
Another proud product from Buckeye State made in the Buckeye State! Go Bucks!
So I own an Airstream. Yes they are expensive. But they last. And if you keep them up their resale value is far more than a typical TT. Most TTs after 10 years look like crap. Not an AS. Name how many typical campers are around for 30 or 40 years! The shells are so well made they are often remodeled. Again name another travel trailer you can say that about. Plus you cannot beat the feel of the interior. When people walk into our AS they say it feels like you are outside. Lots of windows.
We had 1996 Holiday Rambler TT . Aluminum frame and skin. Last for ever still in great condition but had mold in the floor. No matter how long they last eventually it's time to move on. So we just bought new cheap Coleman.
no storage
We have owned everything from a pop up to a class A motor home . We are on our second airstream now . Nothing can compare with it’s quality !
We agree.... Our first RV and no regrets (2016 25' FCRB)
Had ours for over a year, love it. Note though, that door on that really big cabinet... Screws are to short and needs serious reinforcement to not fly apart, just sayin :) At least for the 2018 models.
Ya mean the big mirror cabinet in the bathroom?
yeah, doopid me..all hung over forgot to unlatch hinge before closing..it yanked right down pulling the screws/wood out.
~ Thinks I need a nice piano hinge to fix it. :-l
Great video! Can you tell us who the music is? Thanks.
Airstreams are probably the best built trailers on market, but it comes at a huge price. You can buy a fifth wheel the same length with a full slide for 33% of the price, with aluminum laminate walls. Of course that fifth wheel isn't likely to last near as long especially the vinyl roof, but to me the slide makes all the difference in the world so if I have to replace the roof in 20 years or even the whole unit I'm still way ahead dollars wise. So far as I know Airstream does not do slides due to the mechanical maintenance and the seals, which don't last forever either. Also if you have kids along an Airstream isn't ideal due to the limited space and the fact that they don't have a bunk model. But for a couple they could be ideal if you have the money to burn. I personally wouldn't consider doing without the slide and the bunks in my unit until the kids have all got their own campers. Yes, you can put the table down for additional sleeping space as with most units but who wants to do that every night? Plus the bunks make great places to store things that go outside like folding chairs and tables, ground mats, tents, firewood, etc. when you are rolling.
Airstream does make a bunk unit...I believe it comes in a 27'.... But, at the price they are asking it's not in high demand. Seriously, how many young families (Mom, Dad and two kids under 12) have 89K to drop on an Airstream
Well I wasn’t too impressed with my brothers Basecsmp. Beautiful trailer but leaked in heavy or steady rains in two (apparently) hard to seal places. Refrigerator issues. And it wasn’t too secure feeling (his words) on forest fury or gravel roads ( not off roading pet se.) but the layout and appearance was astounding. Absolutely needed to wear sunglasses anywhere near it.
Sounds familiar. I remember the same issues at times as a kid, plus the adults always being worried about how easily our thrown balls could dent it given the small fortune it cost to repair or replace those panels.
Thank you for this nice well done video. I really do care about quality and how long the they last. That is why I’m looking airstream and Oliver trailers. I have not seen anything better out there.
I own a 2010 Flying Cloud in mint condition, love it, wish I had more time to use it.
I’d be happy to give it a good home and use it all the time for you lol. Flying Cloud is my favorite model by far. I’m retired United States Air Force (20 years) and looking to go full time and would love an Airstream to do it in.
My husband and I bought a new Airstream in 2015 for our silver anniversary. It's a 19' and we love it. We financed it and plan to pay it off for retirement. The key is that if we take care of it we will not need to replace it. They stay beautiful and not only hold their value. You get what you pay for.
We bought our 2014 Flying Cloud 25 Front Bedroom Twin (FC 25 FBT) used in mid 2017, because i’ve always wanted one and their known build quality. We’ve been very happy with it and planning more trips.
SOLD! If I go to trailer route.
I didn’t watch the video but will say that I got a chance to tour the Airstream factory in Ohio and was very impressed. The materials seemed quality and the factory workers looked like they took pride in what they were doing. However, as a middle class family, there’s no way I could afford even the smallest trailer, a mere 48k. If Airstream could alter a 16 footer, get rid of the ultra modern interior, drop the price to about 32-35k, imagine how many of the middle class families would be looking.
I had a 67 airstream when I was 19. I bought it for $1,100 I remodeled it and sold it for $3,600.... 25years ago. I wish I would of kept it.
You can't find a halfway decent one under $25,000 now :'(
Sweet 👍👍 👍 video
Nice,!!!
Very good job putting the video together. Made it easy to watch. Good job.
What sets an airstream apart...no slides :)
Well done Jared, enjoyed it.
Except those few years they had the Airstream Classic Limited that had a slide
The price!
Airstream are very well constructed and well out last any other, but they are very narrow. And with those big windows comes heat or cold depending on the environment.
I own a 92 model AirSteam clasic, 34 ft excella 1000, no problems ever, i love it, every one else does too, NO ITS NOT FOR SALE !!!
Rivets-always pop out! Weight-huge factor as to cost of unti + tow vehicle. Crap interior materials! We were making a decision as to our next RV-a B/B+ this time instead of a tow camper and saw a comparable B+ Airstream to the Pleasure Way we were considering-over $200k and didn't even have standard options like rain sensing vent fan that PW has for $70k less. Plus-Pleasure Way builds all their cabinets in house using hardwoods not laminates, memory foam cushions and many standard options that Airstream only offers as upgrades. In the end-we were very happy with choosing the Pleasure Way.
they need to make 5th wheels again
I’d be interested if they made fifth wheels
Really cool music ! Who is it? Great informative video too
kruzmisile Wanted to find out about the music as well. Were you able to figure it out?
Sounds like Florence and the Machine to me.
If you buy one right, slightly used, they hold their value. We bought our 2006 Safari in 2009, it's worth more than we paid for it today. They just get more expensive every year, driving up the value of the used ones.
Wondering how base is build, what materials. Steel or aluminum
Great video and presentation. Look closer. There are many fitment flaws in these trailers. Many gaps and cost cutting measures here. Just the flimsy cover on the liquid propane tanks is a perfect example. Lots of great features, but lots of quality issues, too. Still some of the best trailers out there. I dare say they are resting on their laurels and lucky that most of their customers are not engineers or full-time beasts.
I call them not worth the money.
You do great videos by the way!
Thank you
Besides iconic, the only one that will last for your grandkids.
Great video Jared I think airstreams are awesome but the price 😢
Same here, love to see what they come up with but it’s not a trailer we would do for us personally. The height is just a little too short for me since I am 6’4”
Although new ones appear very expensive, they become very affordable by buying used. Having someone else pay the first four or five years of depreciation, and handling all the warranty issues for you makes a lot of sense. Check the resale price of well kept, older models, and you will find that they often sell for more than their new price.
Your statement contradicts itself.
David, my point is that they represent value much better when purchased two or three years old, and represent value to the owner when sold after several years when compared with traditional white box trailers. But thank you for your reply. It is greatly appreciated.
Also you can usually get about 15% off list. I don’t know about post COVID but pre-COVID that was the case.
Nice video...what's the name of artist and song you used for it?
To me the two biggest drawbacks are too low to the ground clearance and too little storage space. The low ground clearance causes terrain issues and precludes any basement for storage. The curved walls eliminates almost all space for upper cabinets. So we had to get a truck for a tow vehicle to have enough room to have a generator, toys, tools and even outdoor cooking and seating. I agree about the build quality but we are much happier with our 5th wheel. The ample storage and the interior roominess make it a completely different experience.
Definitely valid reasons!
What about insulation? I heard they are hot in the desert and cold in the winter..
That's funny, show me a trailer that isn't hot in the desert. As for cold, we have had ours in snow, 25 degrees and it's just fine.
It will take a winning lottery ticket for one of these to be in my future....
get a job?
Appreciated the video. Way too expensive for this guy.
Where is the slide out?
@@karenjobagy5822 Slideouts add more weight. They will fail and they are expensive to repair
Don’t forget the high price
Is it true that all the windows and metal makes it really cold in the winter and really hot in the summer?
If you put solar panels up top and Tesla batteries down below you can disconnect from the frame and from the grid permanently
Glad there are other suckers who pay the price for these. They are cool to look at on the road.
What sets them apart? Answer, about $75k lol. Well that and you'll be able to hand it off to your kids.
I like them but in truth the European built touring caravans are a better machine.
Coleen West hobby fendt that’s just two that come to mind. I like the airstream but I think European touring caravans offer a much higher level of comfort and class for a better cost. Its just my opinion.
@@jonathanmcaleece9834 The Black Series looked interesting for a robust boondocking capable RV with lots of comforts. Still pricey when you could buy 2 or 3 standard production models and probably keep them going for 10 years. Certainly won't get much money out of them after though.
Often you get what you pay for.
@@GaryCameron780 that would only be true if in this context one bought a cheaper trailer but....it didnt work. Sadly most cheaper trailers will do everything an Airstream will...and more. Plus..! You can take the extra 100G and put it into your gas tank and get waaaaay more enjoyment out of your cheaper but still awesome trailer
Air streams are clean cut b igh quality. My Dad WWII soldier in the army air core
What sets them apart? Weight
Ok
Love our '97, 34 foot Airstream. In my opinion, the vintage ones have more of a home feeling. Wouldn't trade it for anything. You can find vintage for very reasonable prices. See you down the road . . .
What sets airstream apart? some things are: no slides (can be good, can be bad), many rivets, some can come loose and also where the seams are for the aluminum there can be leaks which go to other areas of the trailer, cause water damage and cost you a fortune to repair. The aluminum panels are fairly easy to dent and cost a fortune to repair. If hail is hard enough, you can end up with a totalled rv. Regardless how expensive of an airstream you purchase, you will never have a true residential queen or king bed, so if you are a tall person, that can be an issue. Exterior and interior storage. Because the are low and have a curved roof, you do give up some storage. If you live where no authorized airstream dealer is located, there may be items you will have to travel a distance to haul your rv in for service. They are very pricy and I know people will say you get what you pay for, ya maybe, but they still depreciate, they still wear and you best be storing them in heated storage (which would be ideal for any rv as a matter of fact). I'm sure there are other things I didn't cover as I have seen lots of videos with issues on an airstream, but in some cases the actual components within are common in the industry. Airstream good, but for my dollar, no thanks.
Very nice campers now that Airstream is under the Thor umbrella I'm waiting to see if they are going change things, Thor is not known for the quality the goes along with an Airstream.
Airstream has been under the "Thor" umbrella since 1980. Thor Industries was formed to purchase Airstream from Beatrice Foods. Do a bit of research.
How can you get a cellphone signal or WiFi with all the metal around you?
Same as in my metal old car...
