  • Drop In/Moving Perspectives, documentation (2016)
    Middlebury College Bi Hall
    Middlebury, VT
    April 12, 2016
Maree ReMalia invites her Pittsburgh-based collaborators to Middlebury College to meld their creative fields spanning dance, sound, visual art, photography, and film to develop movement scores and interactive installations that are inclusive for a wide range of participants to “drop in” and participate in playful, creative ways through interactive events in public locations on campus, while actively engaging questions of resiliency, connectivity, and sustainable well-being.
The Drop In/Moving Perspectives event invited the college and local community to participate in ReMalia and her collaborators facilitation of improvisational explorations with a dance course and then dance in an hour-long open improvisation that was open to public viewing in the Great Hall of Bicentennial Hall (science building). Movers spanning ages 18-80 from fields reaching across arts, arts administration, dance, biology, global health, and more interacted with each other through movement scores written by the artists-in-residence and local community, original sound scores created by David Bernabo from local soundscapes, and installation objects arranged by Blaine Siegel. Occasionally, passersby would join the activity.
The Looking In/Seeing Out performance inhabited an unused greenhouse on campus with a cast that included the artists-in-residence and students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community spanning fields such as architecture, environmental studies, visual art, writing and experience levels ranging from newcomers to dance and seasoned professionals.
