The wildlife! Local “critters” consist of lizards, bugs, scorpions, the occasional coyote, and depending on where you live, rattlesnakes too!

Lot's of coyotes out here in surprise. Never leave small dogs unattended Day or Night. They will eat them including cats. They will actually jump up on your fence and look in your yard like a thief.

From someone who’s been here 10+ years...people will tell you to “avoid the avenues.” I live just into the avenues, and rent here is cheaper than it was in the suburbs. I’m within 10 minutes of three freeways and the light rail, and tons of shopping too. LOTS of great restaurants in Uptown/Biltmore/Arcadia too, please don’t write off those areas if you’re looking, especially if you want a more urban environment. Scottsdale is very overpriced and touristy (I used to live there). Tempe is GORGEOUS and has the lake and tons of parks and outdoor activities, and cheaper than Scottsdale, just get south of Broadway if you’re trying to avoid the college scene. Laveen and Ahwatukee are nice and still decently priced, and it’s a pretty short drive over to Chandler. Careful in West Mesa...I used to live there and it got VERY sketchy at night. Wherever you live, make sure there’s at least a community pool, you won’t regret it.

We moved here from SF area last year and it was 116 degrees. 116 DEGREES!!!!! LOL. You need a car here. But I sold my gas saver for a full size truck and pay two bucks a gallon. Food compared to the Bay Area SUCKS!!! LOL. I can't find a great Thai place let alone good Chinese . Mexican food in some places is great. Of course we are in the Surprise area and maybe that's the problem on good food. Scottsdale is my favorite part of the area here, But pricey.
Cost of living. This is what I notice. Labor around the house or in is about the same as California, expensive and many times unreliable. Food about the same costs. I paid 75 bucks for breakfast for the wife and I and I thought that was crazy. Housing here is more reasonable here than the pricing in the Bay Area. You can get a beautiful place for 300K or a fabulous place for 500K. Property tax is real low. Property insurance low. Gasoline low. Utilities are about the same as California. Car insurance was less than one half then what we paid in California. I love the freeways here because not much traffic and the diamond lane is free. No FASTRAK!!! Great! No parking tickets here compared to California.
Don't leave animals in the car at all. There is actually a law on leaving your dog in the yard after a certain temp. I think it's 90 degrees.
    SADONA is to die for!

I have to be honest there’s nothing like Chinese food and Thai food from the Bay Area!! It’s just so good. But there are some pretty great places in Phoenix and Mesa!
Cost of living is definitely better than in California. Bri paid $1050 for a converted living room in SF (her mom pays less than that for a 5 bedroom mortgage in Maricopa)!
Sedona is gorgeous!! There’s also some cute little wineries up that way too. Lots to see and do in Arizona. Let us know what you want to see from us in the future!!

Thank you for a pretty objective observation of the area. I do question though, how so many people say the cost of living is less. Housing....definitely, renting not so much. Example, paid 2400 per mo. West LA, and equivalent Phoenix Apartment would cost 1600-1800 in same cultural district. I'm a nurse, and the pay scales here have not increased along with the rise in housing costs. Utility bills, when factored in....not cheap. For a full time position, pay cut of nearly 40K per year when I moved here from LA. Having said that, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LIVING IN MIDTOWN! I have a studio, cut expenses, and get outdoors, and walk every where when I can, and time errands with weather (groceries early am & night time in summer). Even in summer (prior to Covid) we only ate at restaurants for happy hour, took a Lyft there & walked back. With bikes...world is your Oyster! Plenty of places in Down Town/Mid Town. Spend less, work less. I would not suggest living here if you work 9-5 & choose to commute long distances. Driving in the heat during rush hour, with hot angry people can be a nightmare! A remote worker, with flexible schedule, or someone willing to work weekends, and do nature during the week...LOVE IT HERE. I think being happy anywhere might benefit from re-thinking what you really need, and maybe adjusting for more free time...less hours working. THANKS AGAIN FOR THIS VID!

Housing is still overpriced, especially north of Phx. And south in Maricopa and Pima Counties, where it's getting so badly overpopulated (thanks to the bi-partisan over immigration conspiracy), water is going to get a lot more expensive when they either are going to have to pipe it from the Mexican coastline and purify it or employ next gen methods of extracting it from air.
