how the heck this is not a league? somebody should help fund this, the gameplay is worthy of watchers
I think, unfortunately, it was a release that came too late, maybe? StarCraft was also out at the time and really pushed the competitive / esports agenda, and rightfully so. Keep in mind that the game only had two factions at the time. That could be hindrance to its entertainment value (from a viewer perspective, not player). To be honest, I just found out about this and started playing it. As an old school RTS fan, holy shit. How did I miss this as a kid?! LOL. It's awesome!
Because the gameplay is all over the place and really hard to follow as an average viewer.
Quality cast from a beautiful game. So stoked for Homeworld 3!!!

26:20 The lightning happens when you fire ion weapons inside clouds. They presumably gets charged until they discharge. Very neat attention to detail by the developers.

Umm Will it happen? They are running a kickstarter with a $1.00 goal which screams it's a SCAM to me. And if it is actually "fully funded" why run a kickstarter??? Very Sketchy. Never pre-order, never Kick into a kickstarter for an acutal corporate developer,,, Just drop your cash when it actually releases.

The lowest amount you can donate is full price of the game, every other tier is just more bonuses.

enemy team had issues with their econ due to cloaked fighters, pulars and bombers being extremely annoying behind the scenes the whole game
some mis-coordination between enemy team main forces too, and not enough supp frigs
we nearly lost for that same reason though, very dicey when rob's MS died

Fear's bomber's 29:55 turned the tide against the frigate spam that took out Robey's mothership, then Robey's pulsar gunships 33:25 driving back the carriers and shipyard from the Ion storm line sealed the fate of the battle. MVP of the match was the missile frigate from Fear, so many kills... so many.
Was fun to play. =) The harvesting stats should tell it all: RoBeY 190k, Fear 180k, Cloaked 150k, Azreal 100k. Azreal was only on two small resource patches, so I'm surprised we lasted 45+ minutes. Dam!

that's what happens when you stray from the path of our lord and savior, the mine-layer corvette.
Harvesting stats are an oversimplification of why you lost. Azrael bailed you out from attack while your missile vette back stab failed miserably in the beginning. He also passed you capital ships which you let idle and die. Your micro was also lacking Cloaked. These are the reasons why you really lost. That is very unsportsmanlike and unprofessional to trash talk your teammate (even subtlety on a public forum).
In addition, Azrael was constantly raided and lost collectors while fighting on the front lines throughout the whole match. So, his harvesting score would have been higher but for the collectors dying.
@@alexanderharvey8571 Azreal is an old buddy, played well, and ZERO disrespect is intended. For most of the game the battle was close to his expansion and it was simply not harvesting. Fear even said he felt like we were missing half of our strikecraft around the 30minute mark, which allowed bombers to wreck havok and turn the game around. He didnt realize we only had 2/3rds the income until after the game was over. Was just a fun skirmish game, and was also my first MP game in many months. So please excuse my play. =P Mainly just wanted to try the new hyperspace gate buffs out. =)

This game was won by the cloaked fighter harass, constant pulsar pressure, and a well timed bomber push.
The inital seeming success of team yellow was merely a result of the higaaran frigate force being wildly out of position to blint it in time.
I'm quite late to this, but MAN do I love it when Battlecruisers come out, very enjoyable cast thank you :)

Macro came because each team couldnt figure out what the other was committing to and 1 wrong trade would cost the game in a match like this, basically couldn’t find weak points.

Ion beams supercharge nebulae, causing lightning discharges to happen. If I recall correctly, everything caught in that nebula takes small amounts of continuous damage.

I have not ever watched a casted game for HW ever.. I loved Homeworld Cataclysm (only one I played right through) and brought remastered but it sat in my steam library... WOW seeing epic players go toe to toe!
good old memories, love this game, i remember that in the original (not remastered) you can change some .txt files and duplicate ur ships in story mode, i have a lot of fun back in the day

I have played Homeworld since the first release of the first part. I loved it instantly. I even bought the Remastered edition and played it again. And also the Kharak part. When i heard about the Part 3 that will be coming out i was thrilled. I am really looking forward to it.

Can't believe I just found your channel, lovely stuff. A trance-like state can be achieved by good, engaging strategy game content. Like this! What a truly beautiful game, and not just on the aesthetic layer. I'd call it 'revolutionary', but sadly few games followed in its footsteps. Though one effect of that is that Homeworld slaps just as hard now as it did back then.

I think that's part of the problem. HW was just TOO GOOD. Even Relic was overwhelmed by the reception and unsure how to follow up. Other devs saw the near-perfection of HW and were afraid to compete, due to the risk that Relic could slaughter a first attempt of the genre , so they didn't even try.
AFAIK there was no competition until late 2001, and THAT attempt got slaughtered differently; it premiered in 2001/09/11.
Due to all of this, HW never turned into a genre ("HW-like"? "3DRTS"?), and Relic itself was quite hesitant, too. Some genres see uninspired sequels (same engine, slightly streamlined, rebalanced, better level design, usually worse story), but with the kind of "thinking player" attracted by HW, that wasn't going to meet any success. In fact, I suspect that HW sales didn't decline as sharply as other titles, and therefore, there was no NEED to follow up for a long time.
HW eventually got its sequels, which were quite good, and finally, HW Remastered, which ironically checks the average "sequel" list quite well, but with a different intention: not to sell "essentially the same but different" to grab more cash, but to offer a game that runs on newer PCs. It's more of a ported version in that regard.
And that's why I'm afraid that HW3 wouldn't work out; it would either be " _HW Remastered_ Remastered" or come out as something "HW in name only" like the pretty generic _Deserts_ - no, I think the future of HW is a FOSS clone, like _Open TTD_ to the now dead "Traffic/Economy Sim" genre.
And finally, the recent HW3 hype reeks too much of "HalfLife 3 confirmed!"

@@Dreamlands15 also could you please lower the in-game music and sound volume in your future videos? It was a problem in your earlier videos and although you did eventually work out decent volume levels for your DoK videos (still a bit too high for my tastes), it came back in full force in homeworld remastered ones. When it comes to casting it's better to have the game audio too low than too high.

The game was decided when they focused down the Pride of Higara, that gave the huge fleet of frigates plenty of time to fire on them unmolested.
Lost a bunch of ships, and were always just slightly outproduced and outgunned the rest of the way.
Also I'd question their decision on building Battle cruisers when they were lacking anti fighter and didn't have a proper line of DD and frigates. Battle cruisers on their own just get singled out and focus fired
Would like to have been able to see the stats at the conclusion of the game. To address comments about why no heavy cruisers from HW1 races, the research is 7k to get the tech. So, it is nearly impossible to get in a high intensity game like this where all kinds of ships are being produced simultaneously. Research cost should be nerfed back down to the original 5k.

Anyone else find it incredible that Homeworld managed to get a multiplayer where ALL of the units are used? And that they managed to balance HW1 style ships with HW2 ships?
