"Waltzing Matilda" is an Australian patriotic song dating back to 1895, the song is often called the unofficial anthem of Australia.

I enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard on 7 July 1964 at the age of 17. My first unit was the 3rd Battalion of the 128th Infantry Regiment, 32d Infantry Division (Red Arrow). The senior officers and Noncoms were mostly veterans of WWII who served in the 32d in the South Pacific, including Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. The 128th Regimental March was Waltzing Matilda and it was played each and every time that the units passed in review.

I think many respondents are not aware that Australia was originally a PENAL COLONY of the United Kingdom... Thus it stands to reason that there's some of it's heritage that celebrates a certain degree of lawlessness.

You probably did, the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) is world class, they train the future officers of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), The Australian Army, and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Some officers from other countries are sent to ADFA to study and specialise in areas that perhaps their country or unit can't offer.

There are officers seconded from a lot of countries at Duntroon. At the passing out parade they wear their own ceremonial uniforms - I think I spotted one from the USMC for example, and there is definitely a Brit in there. Plus of course from the neighbours - the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, NZ. Most probably studying specialist courses.
