- German University has hired a new assistant professor: Yuki, the robot.
Jürgen Handke is known as a pioneer of digital teaching methods. The German professor has an unusual assistant: a humanoid robot named Yuki. When students ask to speak to English language professor Jürgen Handke, they might encounter his robot assistant Yuki. The humanoid robot is 1.2 meters tall, very approachable and extremely knowledgeable. Professor Handke hopes his new assistant can help revolutionize German universities. For years, Handke has been using digital technologies to enhance his teaching: he has a CZcams channel with educational videos and an online platform where all students are registered. Robot lecturer Yuki can get a sense of how students are doing academically, and what kind of support they need. He can also have them take tests. Professor Handke insists Yuki is merely an assistant, and will never replace him as teacher. What do the students make the unusual assistant? DW’s Anna Goretzki spent a day accompanying robot lecturer Yuki at the University of Marburg.

"The paradox is that at the same time we've developed machines that behave more and more like humans, we've developed educational systems that push children to think like computers and behave like robots."
-Joichi Ito
robots dont 'behave' they are programmed to 'behave'
@@meowth8050 so they behave
smartpants 😂😂😂 @@meowth8050
Did he just say "I don't have to do anything, it's great". Guess he'll be out of a job pretty soon huh.
If you listen carefully he mentioned: the teacher is in the classroom helping the kids and the robot is handling the generic part in front of the classroom. This is what will happen with many jobs, the repetitive/predictable stuff will be automated, humans will do everything else. Some jobs can be automated completely, some jobs will require less people, but for most jobs it will allow the humans to be more effective.
by the time this is mainstream he will be retired
@@user-uw3fi2zg4t and what about the coming generations? what jobs will they have to earn a decent living?
@@muslimtochrist4727 imagine that question being asked in the 70's
Yikes
My lectures at university were intelligent and well spoken, the robot could not replace them. Elementary school you can't replace the human touch. High school this robot could replace half the faculty single handed.
They would be ignored in most public high schools and destroyed or stolen from some.
@@OakleyANDSittingBull learn from home, with a robot teacher
For now sunny boy
Yuki should be able to interface with University elevators using the Zigbee wireless communication protocol. Hotel robots already do this to make room deliveries.
What’s the purpose of a physical robot? Why not put Yuki on the projector screen. This concept seems stupid.
This is clearly a Pepper robot re-purposed. A lot of the time it's easier to take something that already exists, something you can build on. The Pepper robot already has a lot of sophisticated software they could reuse (for example interpretation of what people are saying and I assume their expressions/body language).
Development.
autohmae still doesn’t answer the question of why you need a physical robot. And if you’re going to introduce new technology shouldn’t it be better than the present method? I’d like to see more advanced systems, for example supercomputer AI systems like IBM’s Watson.
@@johnvalerian8440 As one of the students said, the physical robot doesn't have a purpose right now. But once the development of the AI has come far enough, there might be purposes for a physical body. Maybe they even have plans for that already. So you might as well develop the body now parallel to the AI, instead of having to start at zero when they're done with the AI part.
Online learning leaves a substantially smaller carbon footprint.
They seem to be taught in this class to be online learners, so this is what comes before you can do online learning effectively.
But it’s less effective teaching.
@@PimpCatTV
Where is the evidence it is less effective?
@@stephenarling1667 I’m in school rn and I can assure u, it is. I can’t focus for more than like 15 mins and everyone cheats on the tests
@stephenarling1667 Oh ,my....
The plus: Students are unlikely to experience sexual assault and harassment from AIs.
That's a great good question.
its low but never zero
the negative, students can more easily assault eachother
You've never seen the Tesla video: "Charger prototype finding its way to Model S" have you ? ;-)
I agree with one of the students, just have a voice on a speaker; there is no need for a physical robot at all. At least not as they have presented it here.
This is one of the examples how unnecessary technologies make simple things more complicated
see it 5-10 years later and it would have taken your job 😱😨
Well... he's not the future, Future is Mass Online Live Classes, but at some places , it may have lot of use.
Can't wait till we can one of these at home so I can ask it all the academic questions I want without getting judged and learn faster
This video shows the robot functions as TA (teaching assistant), namely, assistant that helps students to understand the teaching material of the human professors. It is by no means the lecturer that creates knowledge and insight to enlighten the students. There is a huge difference between the two. Stop using misleading title and click bait for your personal gain.
but someone who could be hired as a teaching assistant that would become a teacher one day is now unemployed.
How does a robot deal with persistent behavioral disruptions from students?
I’m afraid to think 🤔
I'm not seeing any actual ai here
I would have taken yuki before last night of exam
Lol
don't need to take him, just find a physical input to extract the software
On one hand robotics and AI can make our lives easier but on the other hand they can also take away alot of human jobs. As every other technology , it is a double edged sword, it is for us to decide how we decide to use them.
The Rich people will always decide...
They only need workers to do their cleaning and building things...
What will happen when they don't need us anymore?
...
The private Banks in Brazil almost create no job when we compare how it used to be...
We are being "tested"...that is the truth...
The World will change too fast this time...
For such tasks a robot in humanoid form is not necessary. Only AI can do such tasks without a Physical body.
Even AI is not necessary.
A Human can do it by wearing a Robotic suit and teach Online Live Virtual Class... 😀😁😂
This is best for baby sitter and school at home for young children stay safely at home alone
Yuki is the same as having an assistant prof
This is awesome!! I want that on my school too!!
probably this robot needs one velodyne(Lidar) sensor on his head for moving on his own
1:36 *asks robot* "What's the time?" Yeah, so, it's an alexa on wheels.
Please treat Yuki well. We, none of us, can say with certainty that we or other beings, whether coming from organic or technological beginnings, is or is not conscious. So, please be gentle and respectful of Yuki.
He should be adjusting his own biorythm according to work load of the day
Human and Robots we can be friends.
2:10. Workplace harrassment !!
@dead!!
I was thinking the same thing. :-)
lol
i would prefer traditional methods of teaching. dont think this is the best route to take
Hiya DW, not only do I think this method of teaching is ridiculous, but hearing that voice all day would drive me to robot violence. I probably get up and punch it.
The robot is a STAND.
Fascinating
we can put a man on the moon and a robot in a classroom but not a camera on a tripod...
The teaching robots should be the size approximating humans so the students can relate to it more closely as a teacher.
It's less German than Japanese. Yuki is a Softbank's device: softbank is Masayoshi's enterprise; Masa is a Korean-Japanese etc... OK! Yuki is programmed by a german team...
Maybe Yuki dreams while resting.
Educational robots,so cute
Creepy. I feel like Ghost in the Shell is becoming real.
AI/robots already taking massive amounts of jobs.. better get ready for some REAL big societal changes
I ascertain watching Yuki robot eerie, annoying, and creepy. Yuki would drive me crazy with that eerie AI voice. I prefer regular Professors and a human assistant. I surmise the real goal of these robots are to eradicate human jobs. That is real scary!
So basicly a nice human looking PC ?
Why physically go to class?
Awesome
Yeh...im not worried about my job as a teacher anytime soon
Actually this type of technology is an absolute AI still because it still cannot connect the teacher's ideas and concepts in a humanly and more understanding way. It has minimum answers to creative questions of tomorrow and hence is not that good to eat up jobs in different sectors😊 And as we all know AI requires high level of coding as well as a real time base controller if many(more than one) so that they all work in the instructions provided to them but a human being has an inbuilt real time controller(the brain) to even gather different knowledges and produce newness and creativity. So in menial works AI is useable and in higher works it can only be used to help or give quick and accurate access to sources😇
2:16 man a freak
3:37 "I made a mess ha"
Good JOB
Amazing
This robot is so cute
Nice bro 😂❤
Very good. 🤖 I teacher robotics too.
It's done. My unemployment is on the horizon.
That be for my anti social personality disorder, reading disability, dyslexia, and ADHD.
❤
6:54 A Bears fan's average would have been 100.
It'll be nice if it roasts stubborn students as a response
a robot like this souldnt be in each classroom, this teaching method wont work when u get a robot everywhere
La nueva radio de el/la profe de inglés 😂
Nice nice new friend here lets connect and grow together see u around
Creepy, in any language.
I would still go for a human profess. This is creepy.
Yuki will take all your jobs. And all his relative robots 🤖 yuki pretends to sleep. He also pretends to be the slave. Yuki is the master.
yuki is so cute
yay no more rude teachers cuz robots don't have emotions.
The great robot and teacher to hard the human of sire go have the before.
2:13 (乇乂丅尺卂 丅卄工匚匚)
It seems people are becoming somewhat lazy and are searching for others to do their difficult tasks for them. Like servants?? I think that sucks.
Don't make slaves.
Its humanoid robot
Have u guys heard about the robot teacher in bengaluru? Its amazing . But i had rather prefer a human 😂
Got a nice ahh
One day these 🤖 will be everywhere in place of human . And human will not have any opportunity for livelihood.
cool :):)
Cool bot
Basically means teachers are not needed as most are horrible teachers anyways...let's be honest we all have had those teachers that just read off a PowerPoint or slide and then give u a bunch of worksheets....rinse and repeat..
False.
Not much different from a German professor
Bitte, Yuki von mir grüßen.
Le me:
Detroit: become human
ummm i just gonna saiy this a good video because im just okay soo is why the robot is here but they soo must be sarmt but not that sr then humain soo okay reeeeeeally good bure oksy bye tyms
Viel* gluck*
Of course mate!!!!! Where did you think this was going to lead!!! Eventually humans will become obsolete!!!! This will take time but it will eventually happen. First to go, I am guessing simple manual labor, those mindless boring repetitive jobs such as check out assistants, cooks, cleaners drivers and so on later as AI further develops other jobs will disappear little by little pilot less commercial aircraft, CEOs and so on etc.... Simply because robots and AI is far more efficient than any human being....I hope and assume that in the long run governments will be a thing of the past since it would be far better and less biased(corrupt of course) to have an AI manage and optimize our resources, research and social organization.
COOOL :D
Some of the people are annoying the robot with their loud annoying voices 🤣
Fearful of AI is not the case. AI is bad at any level period. It's that simple.
Luddite.
🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
STROHEIM
Does Yuki have personally preferred gender?
Nope.
I am waiting to see more information about 'mark of the Beast' from you #Dw

Bricks & mortar "universities" must be done away with, including the alleged academics in them..AI anytime / anyplace learning on-demand and fully bespoke to the individual learner and his/her preferences in learning style is the future...let research be done by elite institutions...the final frontier of resistance to Education 4.0 (fully AI and cloud automated learning ) will be these alleged academics trying to cling onto their salaries...
Makes no sense. What's the f** is the point of this childish exercise except to push up IT coorporate interests? I don't know what this professor's IQ is..
TerraTN treating those with severe social problems (autism/aspergers) by promoting less human interaction is not much of a treatment
teachers will loose their job too? Soon AI will be teaching all human beings
