  • German University has hired a new assistant professor: Yuki, the robot.
    Jürgen Handke is known as a pioneer of digital teaching methods. The German professor has an unusual assistant: a humanoid robot named Yuki. When students ask to speak to English language professor Jürgen Handke, they might encounter his robot assistant Yuki. The humanoid robot is 1.2 meters tall, very approachable and extremely knowledgeable. Professor Handke hopes his new assistant can help revolutionize German universities. For years, Handke has been using digital technologies to enhance his teaching: he has a CZcams channel with educational videos and an online platform where all students are registered. Robot lecturer Yuki can get a sense of how students are doing academically, and what kind of support they need. He can also have them take tests. Professor Handke insists Yuki is merely an assistant, and will never replace him as teacher. What do the students make the unusual assistant? DW’s Anna Goretzki spent a day accompanying robot lecturer Yuki at the University of Marburg.

      If you listen carefully he mentioned: the teacher is in the classroom helping the kids and the robot is handling the generic part in front of the classroom. This is what will happen with many jobs, the repetitive/predictable stuff will be automated, humans will do everything else. Some jobs can be automated completely, some jobs will require less people, but for most jobs it will allow the humans to be more effective.

      This is clearly a Pepper robot re-purposed. A lot of the time it's easier to take something that already exists, something you can build on. The Pepper robot already has a lot of sophisticated software they could reuse (for example interpretation of what people are saying and I assume their expressions/body language).

      autohmae still doesn’t answer the question of why you need a physical robot. And if you’re going to introduce new technology shouldn’t it be better than the present method? I’d like to see more advanced systems, for example supercomputer AI systems like IBM’s Watson.

    • @Junakase
      @Junakase Před 5 lety +4

      @@johnvalerian8440 As one of the students said, the physical robot doesn't have a purpose right now. But once the development of the AI has come far enough, there might be purposes for a physical body. Maybe they even have plans for that already. So you might as well develop the body now parallel to the AI, instead of having to start at zero when they're done with the AI part.

    Actually this type of technology is an absolute AI still because it still cannot connect the teacher's ideas and concepts in a humanly and more understanding way. It has minimum answers to creative questions of tomorrow and hence is not that good to eat up jobs in different sectors😊 And as we all know AI requires high level of coding as well as a real time base controller if many(more than one) so that they all work in the instructions provided to them but a human being has an inbuilt real time controller(the brain) to even gather different knowledges and produce newness and creativity. So in menial works AI is useable and in higher works it can only be used to help or give quick and accurate access to sources😇

First to go, I am guessing simple manual labor, those mindless boring repetitive jobs such as check out assistants, cooks, cleaners drivers and so on later as AI further develops other jobs will disappear little by little pilot less commercial aircraft, CEOs and so on etc.... Simply because robots and AI is far more efficient than any human being....I hope and assume that in the long run governments will be a thing of the past since it would be far better and less biased(corrupt of course) to have an AI manage and optimize our resources, research and social organization.
