    Well done Billy, absolutely hit the nail on the head with this video and the bike's carbs. These base settings are incredibly important! Looking forward to the rest of your build! Keep it up and thanks for the shout-out. Ride safe!

      Coming from Hagar Moto, that is truly a high compliment. Keep pumping out those videos. You do great stuff for the backyard builder.

    By pilot screw i think you mean air fuel mixture screw on the outside of the carbs? Or you talking about the actual pilot screws inside the carbs nextvti the main jet?

      Yes. Air mixture screw. Thanks for the technical correction.

    Hi, good info, I have both the VS 1400 and the Marauder VZ800,,,,can you tell me specifically on the VS and the VZ exactly where I plug the guages in to syn the vaccum? is in on the carb or the boot, can you show me a pic? Also, is it just a sync or is there a high and low speed sync method? TY so much!

    Will this work on a vz800? I'm told the are the same carb settings

    • @billysbobbers3122
      @billysbobbers3122  Před 3 lety

      I have not worked on a VZ personally. But the concepts are the same for most carbs. Follow the service manual and keep these tips in mind when tuning and you should have good results with a little patience.

    1995 Intruder VS800. Are the carbs the same as on this bike? I've been chasing carb problems forever! 2 3/8 out on the front and 2 out on the rear for pilot mixtures? My Chilton book doesn't list it.

    • @billysbobbers3122
      @billysbobbers3122  Před 2 lety +1

      I have not worked an 800, but I think the principle is the same. The carbs are a bit offset due to the way the lay on the cylinder so I believe you can what I have provided.

      4 months later. Anywho I just rebuilt carbs on a 2000 VS800/ The air fuel screws are preset and have a cap over them that needs to be drilled out if you want to change the -o-rings and clean the needle. The settings from the factory were ZERO turns on the rear and about 2 on the front. The manual will just say PRE-SET.
      I was surprised to see it turned all the way in on the rear.
      I set it to 2 turns on the rear just to see if it ran better but ended up setting the rear to zero turns and it ran fine. I still need to road test it but in the parking lot it felt fine. May need to tune more after road test ride.
      Also I could not get the thing to sync and it was popping but I noticed the owner (I am a tech) had the throttle cable right at the throttle grip turned out quite a ways. Once I turn that all the way in it made a huge difference especially on the rear carb as I could see the sync lever on that carb move. So popping went away. Smooth out the idle.

      @@jcaashby3 my carbs got messed with from the shop years ago. They put a stage 2 cobra kit in it and called it good. All because I took it to them after I cut out the first set of baffles and it was running real lean. After they "fixed it" It was running super rich for years. You couldnt ride behind me cause you would get high! Lol! I removed the cobra air needles, replaced the slide diaphragms and basically reversed the cobra kit. I did this to get back to a base line. Now she wants to stall when I take off. It seems to run ok other than a lot of popping on decel, which is supposed to indicate a lean condition. Fire will shoot from the exhaust when it does. I adjusted the fuel air screws and synced the carbs but to no avail. I'm still kinda stuck at this point...

    Hi there I have a 2014 1400 intruder and I turned on the key and gas is just flowing out and I found a little grey wire broke off from somewhere and I really would love to know we're it might go because it is right there were the injection is but it seems All the injection is good as far as the wires with is there a wire to the float or something else i can check about the grey wire?

      @@waynemilone8096 I am not familiar with the fuel injected models. I have experience only with the dual carb set up. On a carb set up I would say that would be float issue, but not on for a bike with fuel injection.

    are you going to release a video on how to sync them? like exact locations of where you adjust and what you adjust? id like someone like you wih your smart style to explain really bad. i took a ot of notes from this video

    • @billysbobbers3122
      @billysbobbers3122  Před 2 lety +1

      Glad you asked. I plan to do that very thing. I am preparing two set ups. One with gauges and the other with mason jars. I am running through the paces to make sure i get it all correct and then I will shoot the video and explain things in detail. I have only had one day to do it so far and most of that was making the jar set up. Most videos do not cover syncing these bikes and the one I found only explains using the rear to sync the carbs. I am fine tuning the process for both gauges and jars/bottles, depending on what folks have available to sync the carbs, and for using all cables to sync the carbs. Unfortunately, i have been working the day job a bit extra last couple months. Gotta make the time for the bike soon.

    INTERESTING INFO....ESP. PILOT SETTINGS...I`VE LEARNED, BY TRIAL & ERROR, FRONT CARB HAS TO BE OUT MORE THAN REAR CARB

    • @billysbobbers3122
      @billysbobbers3122  Před 3 lety

      Good point. Depending on elevation, you will likely have to adjust the front out more than you will the rear. This usually makes most think they are doing something wrong. Also, you have to keep in mind that if you go to straight pipes and delete the air box for direct air filters, that will change EVERYTHING. Then you will have to jet the carbs. Again, I recommend Hagar Moto's video for that. He does a great job explaining Intruder 1400 carb jetting. The only thing I did different is I don't buy a kit. They are too expensive. I always buy my jets in separate packs for $3 to $8 and save at least half of what the kits cost.
