  • General Bison, played by Raul Julia, is a wicked dictator ruling over Shadaloo. He takes a bus full of relief workers hostage and demands a ransom. Colonel Guile, portrayed by Jean-Claude Van Damme, heads an international team to invade Shadaloo and save the captives. During the mission, Guile teams up with Chun-Li, a skilled reporter and martial artist, played by Ming-Na Wen, whose father was killed by Bison long ago. He also recruits two young tricksters, played by Damian Chapa and Byron Mann, along with a sumo wrestler named Peter Navy Tuiasosopo.

Raul Julia is this films only saving grace. "It was Tuesday" lives in my head rent free 😂

One of those bad but good movies. Lots of memories and unexpected moments you didn't know you needed.
Zangief being dumb was fun and "it was Tuesday" was such a good line. I forgot a lot of the rest but seeing it again it worked for what it was.

Sorry I’m a SF fanboy: if anyone wants to know Ken was played by the talented actor Damian Chapa what also starred in an Underrated Classic know as Blood in Blood out. 🤘🏼😣🤘🏼

My little sister and I once spent an entire Sunday playing Street Fighter trying to beat it. We finally did and this message came up " Congratulations, next time why not try a harder level".

Ming Na and Kylie Minogue still look fantastic nearly 30 years later.

So 30 years ago, this week.
The SF2 Anime movie came out in different parts of the world and was an instant smash.
Here in the states at the time, all we knew was that SF would be live-action and had JCVD as Guile; part of his multi-picture deal with Universal.
Considered one of the most decisive video game movies ever.
The directorial debut of Steven E. De Sousa (screenwriter of Commando, 48 hrs and Die Hard).
Although Guile is American and JCVD is not, his look was as close as they could get.
Doing his infamous pose while showing Guile's flag tattoo was cool.
The late Raul Julia as M. Bison is exceptionally fun.
Over the top as he has done many times before.
He did it for his kids who were fans of the games and you gotta love that.
The rest of the casting was fine, the action sequences are decent enough, the sets/wardrobe are looked good too.
The humor is incredibly cheesy and that's part of the hate.
Although SF2 and it's many versions were phenomenal.
Not quite adapting the game, even throwing in a few nods, easter eggs into it still irked people.
Box office wise, it was the first highest-grossing film of the genre.
Doing way better than Super Mario Bros (1993) and Double Dragon (1994).
I loved the Hasbro toys, the soundtrack album, the fighting game-movie tie in redone and the movie's animated sequel series on USA (26 episodes).
SF:The legend of Chun-Li (2008) had a good approach as an reboot and yet it still failed.
So now a new SF movie is coming in 2026, we'll see.

Wow, you really captured the essence of that era! The impact of SF2 on both gaming and film is undeniable, and it’s fascinating to see how it paved the way for future adaptations. Let’s hope the 2026 movie does justice to the franchise!

Ah, the good old VHS days! Back when rewinding a tape was an Olympic sport and we had to physically get up to change the movie. Good times!

Showdown, you were asking about Vega/Jay Tavare - he's done some other stuff, mostly westerns (he's Navajo), with a couple Kurt Russell movies, Executive Decision and Bone Tomahawk

I've seen that UN lawyer in two other films, the bad guy in Ace Ventura 2 and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2. Really shows the type of films I watch 😂

    "Ah! Benny the Jet!"
I never noticed Benny in the back 🤣🤣🤣 probably because Wes Studi is so great as Sagat.
Benny was probably fight coordinator 🤔

    • @PopcornReactions
      @PopcornReactions  Před měsícem +2

Right? I guess Benny was just too busy being a ninja in the background while Wes Studi was stealing the show as Sagat!
