  • 1950s Hammer Horror garnered a passing reputation for schlocky stuff not as schlocky as some suggest ~ Nowadays the 1950s Hammer backdrops seem somewhat stagey~ wan even lurid against todays hyper graphics where manner shares
equal weighting with story .Licensed in the name of fantasy and why not a zillion creatures explode indulgently from your local friendly cranium ~yippee dont we just love it? In hammer there was little messing about ~ believe what you saw ~ almost but that was the state of the art ~Nowadays As the song goes ~ what you see you dont believe and what you hear you dont believe. Which song? Uranian Circus by Flock .Even if aspects have dated the years have been kind to Hammers abiding respect for narrative I've long parted from the horror genre as a serious pursuit but At risk of over egging the metaphors ~ Every visual trick in the story book has been wheeled in and out there are only so many stories My horror of choice is still classic conventional ~ Hitchcock Psycho and that circle Like everything else among great directors some overrated but please any name in preference to Quentin Tarantino at times resembling a male rant Kubricks resplendent Shining worth aNY Tarantino Apart from Tarantino whatever became of the others who had special appeal for male geeks~David Cronenberg and that lot David Lynch not escaping criticism Kubricks gore fest Shining a filled to the brim visual inspired operatic feast. even if the unfurling story of Shining is non existent genius will out but respect for a dissenting minority?. . ~ Hammer Movie series beginning with 1957 celebrated Curse of Frankenstein peaking? with one of the best of the era Dracula as 6 ft 5 ins Christopher Lee commanded the screen with swift splicing movements keeping gore to a respectful minimum And in the midst of febrile action composer James Bernard found time and space in his scores for attractive melody . Of its type this Nosferatu music by Bernard amongst his most exciting Indeed allow time tunnelling .Had composer Benjamin Britten overheard this as he set down his Tarquinius Ride music in Rape of Lucretia 1940s opera he might have acknowledged the swift intensity of Bernards exciting chase the equal of his own Tarquinius piece but composer Bernard Stevens was more on Brittens wavelength. Brittens dramatic sustain over long stretches in his operas Peter Grimes etc marks his music well above this isolated if riveting Bernard piece. Though for thrilling nervous excitement. this easily draws level with Britten Indeed on a one to ten it looks Stravinsky.in the eye ~ Question ? who is Stravinsky and does he (an Ifcopod gender presumption) frequent these premises? You see thats the problem unless you go to a male nerds music forum on the net ~males proudly proclaiming their knowledge uTube clientele leaves something to be desired and ?
Thats it sentence finished I dont spoon this diatribe out for the good of my health On reflection "good of my health "is probably a remote consideration ~Anyway if you dont get the gist~ no more to be said as a schoolteacher compassionately put it many moons ago to ifcopod ~Have you no home to go to? Strange I presumed that remark was motivated by solicitous concern ~ pondering in the quiet of day ~night? perhaps not ~the shrill voice ~ the crazed manner ~ the machete whizzing past my ear ~ a giveaway ? Anyway now another listen.Brilliant or what ? Brilliant.
Anything else engaging your acculturated Beethovenian senses? Just this would the messer who took down gods of hard Rock Brit band Deep Purple from U Tube kindly replace 1970s German original Highway Star with Blackmores sawn off solo showcasing roistering Ian Gillan ~ Steve Mc Queen Mickey Mouse and all that lah~ark a keyboard of jarring dissonances Jon Lord invincible on this Highway Star~Deep Purple ad majorem gloriam paddy or grammatically speaking should that be paddyiae
