Edit: For those of you asking about the 14 day rule, this is my response: The reason you subtract 14 days is because 14 days is the average length of the luteal phase. Luteal phase is the number of days between your ovulation and next period, counting from the day after you ovulate (ovary release an egg), till you see your next period. However, luteal phase length can be 11 - 17 days before your next period. I have a video for women with varying cycle lengths, and the calculation explained in that video makes calculation easier, while taking into consideration the range of the luteal phase. Hi everyone, the most asked question in the comment section is "when is my ovulation?". I have explained this in a very detailed fashion in this video. Count all the days between the very first day you see your period to the last day before your next cycle. The number you get us your CYCLE LENGTH. After you have done this, then apply the methods in this video that I have explained in a very simple way and you would have an idea about when you will be ovulating. How some who has irregular menstrual cycle but mostly has her menses her 16days,17days 19days, sometimes 21,24,25 28 days. What can cause that cos after going to have several scan sessions, she has no issue.

Nice one doc, but since ovulation is not precise, i think you forgot to mention something, if ovulation occurs on the late dates of the +2, she is still not in her safe period afterwards for an average of two days, because the female egg is still viable 12-24hrs after ovulation. So i think fertile periods should also include like 2-3days after the +2 late ovulation dates, after which the eggs must have died off.

A very informative video. But I would love to know why do we always subtract 14 from the length of cycle and also, how do I calculate the fertile window and the ovulation period for a woman with irregular length of cycle.
The average length of the luteal phase of a woman's cycle is 14 days. Luteal phase is the number of days after ovulation until your next period. This is the reason you subtract 14 from your cycle length to get the day you are ovulating. That is why the most likely day for a woman with 28 day cycle to ovulate is day 14. When you do a subtraction 28 - 14 = 14.

Thanks, I think how ever, that the '14'-thing is for those with a 28 day length cycle; day 14 being the middle. So for those with longer or shorter but regular (and normal ) cycles, the middle day of their particular length of their cycles could therefore be considered the probable day for ovulation. Then the other calculations could follow suit as Dr explained in the video.
The average length of the luteal phase of a woman's cycle is 14 days. Luteal phase is the number of days after ovulation until your next period. This is the reason you subtract 14 from your cycle length to get the day you are ovulating. That is why the most likely day for a woman with 28 day cycle to ovulate is day 14. When you do a subtraction 28 - 14 = 14. I gave a more direct and simple explanation in the video. The 14th day ovulation rule is not because it is in the middle of 28 days, its because you subtract 14 days (which is the luteal phase) from it.

On the cycle length, I don't know whether this has changed, it used to be from the beginning of one menstrual cycle to the beginning of another and not a day prior to another. For instance, if a woman started her menses on 4/7/22, and saw another on 29/7/22, her menstrual cycle would be from 4/7/22 to 29/7/22 not from 4/7/22 to 28/7/22. This means that woman's menstrual cycle is 26 days but not 25 days.
I'm following up on this too.... I'm surprised to see her say it's a day prior.... We need more insight Doc

Are you sure that no matter the length of the cycle ovulation is always 14 days before the next period? I thought the 14 days calculation is for women with 28 day cycle or less. Do women with 33-35 days cycle get 14 days calculation too? -a concerned boyfriend.

It’s not always about fibroids I have a friend who menstruate twice in a year we are in the same facility and I always scan to make sure there’s no abnormalities
She’s had hormonal assay and she’s fine .She later found out her mom has the same issue yet she was able to give birth to five 😂😂😂
