If you subscribed to the mods on the workshop, then go to create a new world, or load an old world, and WAIT for like 2 minutes. The game has to search for them, but it will find it after some time ;)

i did everything correctly but it didnt parse shape the database at 17:05 i copied everything except the uuid and the color
when i click on "create icons" a black window pops up and sais a warning, when i close the warning down it pops up again, when i try to close the black window a weird noice pops up from my computer and i have to restart my whole computer, what is the reason of this?

I thought about making a Gyroscope Block Mod, but I think there is no way to add "new" features by mods right? Sadly you can only modify things that are already in the game :(

+Durf i hope. cause i've lots of idea. as a piston, a double bearing who if activated change the speed of spin (gear box), a cut block who if activated be suppressed, or more easily a lamp who bright in 360°.
When I made the block, that you did, there was a different texture in the block menu than the actual block. It had a design on it that looked like something from scrap mechanic.
I think I mention in this video that I changed my tiling size to generate a different icon.
Change tiling size, generate icon, change tiling size back, save mod 😉

Next lesson will be about basic 3D models. Not interactive stuff yet, because there is a lot to talk about before that (like collisions and how to setup the custom model).
But once that is explained, then lights are super easy to do ;)

How would i do the good old paintable gates and timers mod on the mod tool? just dropping the textures into the textures folder does not work.
You still need to edit the textures as shown in lesson # 1.
Then you can publish your "paintable logic gate and timer" mod....but I think there might already be one, not sure.

So what happens when you set the density of a block to 0 or even a minus value? does it just make the game freak out?
Yep.
If things collide in the game, it uses the density value to calculate what should happen to it.
A negative value will do the opposite of colliding when colliding (yes that didn't make sense - so the game freaks out)
A value of 0 is like trying to divide by zero when collisions happen.
The ultra-light blocks in the modpack are density 1, the lightest possible in the game ;)
I won't make mods... I made a plain block like you but the difference is that in game the icon is weird, the barrier block has lost his texture and the concrete block shines like the metal one.
If your block textures are switching places, it might be because you have a typo in your mod, like a texture that doesn't exist (file not there, or wrong file name).
I think you can do it if you put your mind to it, just give it a try, it can be really fun! :D

2) that means that the JSON code is incorrect for the part with that uuid.
Code to that part in the JSON code, and make sure you have all your curly brackets nested correctly, make sure you spelled all the words correctly, using camelCase when needed.
Durf, when i do the coding and enterin into the game it says: BLOCK NOT FOUND and in the desc is the UUID

The Modpack is supposed to have a gun muzzle (I must have forgotten it in an update - I'll add it this week)

I'm wanting to work on this mod when all level engines are in a 1x1 block, how would I be able to do that? other than that this seems pretty helpful :)
tbh I'm not sure how the newer updates changed the way engines are made
There are some mods with a 1x1x1 block engine already, like the modpack polygons should have an engine of each kind in there; just a plain block
But those are "old engine code", where it's just a simple engine, with many levels of speed and power that you can define in your mod (so you can give more levels than normal)
If you wanted to create a 1x1x1 block that you can "upgrade" like the new engines for survival mode
Then you basically want to go into the game's files and find the JSON for the engines and all the levels (it's like 5 separate parts, and each part links to the next in the JSON)
So you'd be creating 5 individual 1x1x1 blocks that reference each other; copying the format of the new code from the vanilla files, but replacing the model and textures with your own stuff; giving it a new UUID so the game's not confused, and other changes you might want like density and whatnot.
As far as tutorials go, this is pretty outdated, and you're lucky if any SM mods tutorial still applies today. I didn't make very many tutorials because of how things keep changing in the game, so the video would be pointless pretty quick. It makes teaching how to make mods very difficult, and the mod support is kinda bad too...
I hope to make things better for mods, for both players and mod makers, like automatic detection of mods for blueprints, and just in general to make things way easier for everyone...but we're waiting to see what chapter 2 is like before we can even try to make things better than how they are now...

Nah really copying vanilla files into your mod, changing uuid so it's a "different part" to the game (even if it's using all the same models and textures)...that's your starting point.
Get a working version of the type of part you want in your own mod, and start from there.
what if you want to add , more then one block , can i just copy&paste the script(under the otherone) and change the values?

But don't forget to use a new UUID, and remember the list format!

Is it possible to make a mod in the Mod Tool to change your character so you don't have to change the Gamedata textures or no the Mod Tool can only make new items.
Also so if you still want default character you can just disable the mod.

There are a lot of issues with mod support for Scrap Mechanic.

Share your texture files and JSON for the part you're trying to create, and someone (probably me) will be able to better help you ;)
Glowing = BLUE channel in the ASG texture, "silver" is probably a reflection (mirror), which is done with the alpha channel of the asg texture.
I Was not there your contest but could there be a ghost skin by just making a fully transparent image in gimp?
I don't think that's possible...but it might be if the game lets me change the material of the character.
I'll give it a try, and if it's possible, you will see it in a future video ;)

But the error in your JSON file is probably just a simple syntax error. You can use a website like jsonlint.com to check for typos and stuff (it makes sure JSON is valid JSON, pointing out human errors with the structure). There is also a JSON tutorial video on the new channel, explaining exactly how JSON works, to help you avoid future errors, and so you know what you're doing better for your next project.

What`s wrong?
You might have forgotten a comma, or a curly bracket.
Paste your code into a website like jsonlint.com to find any JSON errors.
It won't help with Scrap Mechanic errors, but it will make sure your JSON code is correct for Scrap Mechanic ;)

ehh... old minecraft times...
That cannot be done for the basic building blocks.
Instead, we can learn how to do that in a later lesson when we make parts using 3D models.
So you can't click and drag those blocks, but you will be able to place as many as you need.
This option also lets you rotate it, so you can make the textures face any direction you need :o

Short answer for you right now: join the SMM discord, and ask the entire community of mod makers to help you / you can get better help there with screenshots and organizing play sessions together
The ASG is just one of a few textures - your 3D model should have UV mapping for textures (it's just one UV map for all 3 textures, all 3 use the same positions on your model)
So don't worry about ASG in blender - that's just an image editing thing to worry about (relative to the texture mapping you already made for DIF)

That's a good question...Reinstall mod tool?
Try again after removing all the mods in appData (save a backup somewhere) ...?
It might also be an issue with the model/texture/UVmapping......

Durf i had written blocklist twise. Its fixed and the mod works justfine. All tho i cant download wings 3d so i cant do the next tutoreal
How do I make mods for UEBS
Help!! I've written all of the code for my part but when in the mod tool it gives me the error 'Unable to parse database' and then the path to the blocks.json file! I am using Bluefish by the way.
That happens when the JSON code has an error in it, and Scrap Mechanic cannot understand what the mod is trying to do.
Use a website like jsonlint.com so track down those pesky typos (most likely a missing comma somewhere)

Nah.
All the code we looked at today belongs to Scrap Mechanic, and not any other game.
Many of the techniques used in Scrap Mechanic are used in other games, but the specific JSON code was designed by the developers to make things easier.
physicsMaterial refers to something built into Scrap Mechanic to determine how the blocks sound and act (not physics, but appearance and sound = what should happen when physical things happen to the block, like hitting it or walking on it).

Any code editor will work just fine. Sometimes syntax highlighting isn't auto-detected correctly.
But opening files with .json extension should be detected as JSON files, and highlight the colors correctly.
"Syntax highlighting" is the colors that tell you you're typing your code correctly. If everything is red, then either it thinks it's not JSON code, or there is an error somewhere in your code, that makes everything after it look like it's wrong. Check early on, and see where the red starts.

same issue, the only difference is it crashes the whole thing
Make sure you are on 0.2.3 for Scrap Mechanic
If that doesn't fix it, then try to reinstall both scrap mechanic 0.2.3 and the mod tool from Steam.

Gimp
free image editor that can do many of the things photoshop can do....maybe just a little differently
Gimp is reliable for just about everything I've ever needed it for; thumbnails, mod textures, website development stuff, memes I make randomly..
Help! I used the create icons button and it said: Runtimes Error! Program: ...on\Scrap Mechanic Mod Tool\Release\ItemIconGeneratoe.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
I read other comments and I am up to date on both Scrap Mechanic and the mod tool. (I just downloaded the mod tool and I downloaded SM like 3 weeks ago)
That probably means something is wrong with displaying the part. Check your code for errors, or perhaps with your models and textures. You don't need the icons generated to load the game with your mod, so try to load the game without icons, and that will let you know if the parts even work. Chances are it won't and your log files will tell you what the error was with loading your mod parts (like a code error or model error or texture error). Join the scrap mechanic modding discord if you need further assistance: discord.io/smmods

How do you have multiple blocks in a mod?
blockList is a comma separated list of blocks.
The tutorial shows how to have multiple blocks, just pay attention to the part where I make the second block (can't forget the comma)

hi can someone tell me how to make a simple object like a hexagon in gimp
in GIMP?
You might be able to find a plugin to generate geometric shapes for you.
If that's too advanced for you, then just do it manually with the PATH tool.
Click out the points, then when you have your hexagon, you can "stroke path" to get the outline, or "selection to path" if you want to fill it in with the bucket tool.
Pixels are just like coordinates on a grid, so if you can graph a hexagon, you can graph it on some pixels ;)
And it THAT;S too advanced for you, just google for "hexagon png" or something and you'll find something close enough.

If you do, and you follow the steps exactly like I did, you'd have to contact Axolot by email or twitter, or possibly even Valve to see why Steam is being broken 🤔

Nope. Notepad should work perfectly fine, but I recommend using something else, because it can be quite confusing sometimes. :)

It's called Bluefish. But Notepad++ or Notepad2 are basically the same thing in this case.
Really you only need a text editor with syntax highlighting, and automatic bracket closing. That's basically it.
Bluefish is something that I've used for web development, it has some other features that are useful for that.
Depending on the program you use, you might need to manually set the syntax highlighting in the menus to JSON or Javascript.

You can use any image editing software you feel comfortable with, as long as they can do the same functions
I just took a look on the modding guidelines. It says you have to ask for permission even when recreating someone's elses mods. But you didn't make your's using the official mod support - so it doesn't apply :)
All the mods by the modding team are their own creations and we don't copy other mod makers.
There is a bit of an issue with the workshop, and other mod makers that have already copied us, or ideas we have stated publicly in the past.
So when we upload our mods to the workshop, sure enough there will be someone saying we copied them.
I'm not worried about it. I'm just going to focus on creating mods as always ;)

Check for errors here: jsonlint.com
You might have to check more than once, but it is usually just a forgotten comma somewhere ;)

Missing a comma after the uuid value
Each declaration is separated by a comma, to form a list, like this { "":"", "":"", "":"", "":"", "":"", "":"", "":"" }
Missing a comma is the most common mistake when making mods. The #1 thing that every mod maker does by mistake.
You'll get better with time, and remember the proper syntax. But until then, you can make sure your JSON code is proper with a website like jsonlint.com and it will point out errors in JSON

I followed along, and it worked, but somehow, my blocks were glowing
Blue color component in ASG texture = glowing.
It's okay, lots of people get confused at ASG.
Try to re-watch the ASG part of this tutorial to see how you can fix ;)
Or you can just adjust the image colors by levels, and select just the blue channel and lower all the blue in the image to 0% :o

Unfortunately this is an old tutorial, and the instructions don't quite apply anymore...it's close, but not exact.
That's kinda how it goes with early access games that keep changing like crazy with each update. All tutorials become obsolete.
Especially after the survival updates, there's a lot that's still "up in the air" and undecided. Making mods usually goes like this:
Browse the install folder and see how everything is setup (scrap mechanic is very special compared to other games, the files are right there in the open, easy to edit)
The more you look around, the more you learn about how the game files work together. That's it really.
A tutorial video can be useful, and make that same process faster - but it's the same process you would do by yourself to learn also...
