      This is a fun quirk of the SNES X games. You can use the knowledge on how the wall jump spacing works to reach seemingly unreachable things, and yeah, that arm part is one of those. An easy way to maximise the use of the wall jump spacing is to hug the wall completely and wall jump from it (not a dash wall jump), then when X is furthest away, he should be within 1 or so pixels from being able to catch the wall again from it's furthest point, so just quickly tap forward and wall jump again to barely catch it and maximise your jump distance.
      That or just line X up so that his toe is touching the wall while standing, then wall jump, whatever works for you in the given situation.

    About the CX4 chip. It's not a chip on the SNES, it's a custom chip made by Capcom integrated into the cartridges. It handles a bunch of unseen tasks, but the most obvious ones are the wireframes like you mentioned, as well as sprite rotation, as you can see with Crystal Snail for example. It was again used in X3 for the same purposes, although I can't recall any blatant sprite rotation in that game, although a different team actually handled that game anyway, so there's that too.
    Also, the Shoryuken doesn't 1 hit kill like the Hadouken does. It does 8 or 16 health per frame or something weird like that, so it's entirely possible to only graze a boss with it and it still be alive.

    • @GatorOne-in7hk

      Doesn't it handle extra-large sprites (intro stage boss) and extreme screen warping (Wheel Gator boss room liquid, charged Crystal Hunter) as well? I know MMX3 uses some of the former.
      And the team behind MMX3 also handled all the Game Boy Mega Man (Rockman World) games except for the second one. All the MM games they did have similarly brutal difficulty.

      The CX4 was basically Capcom’s version of the Super FX chip to put it in the most basic terms.
      The Shoryuken needs 3 hits (or frames if you prefer) to kill a boss. The reason for this is that it’s Ken’s 3-hit version of the Shoryuken that was first seen in Super SF II, hence the flames and gigantic horizontal distance traveled.

    As for the "negative to sound analytical", that is a phenomenon I've ran into a lot (and been guilty of myself from time to time). It seems like whenever someone shows joy or excitement over something, we tend to view them as "dumber" or "naive", while someone who is a pessimistic cynic is seen as wise and more "real".
    And I think this is a very pubescent way of looking at things.
    What I mean by that is that kids usually have no shame in what they love, and they want to share that love with the world, but teens tend to go the opposite direction and define themselves more on their dislikes than their likes. And I think, since being a teen is an awkward metamorphis into being an adult, the first thing a lot of teens do is they reject everything they perceive as childish and go "No. I'm way too mature for that kid's stuff."
    And, in a (ironically) very childish way, they play pretend to be adult by acting as what they *think* it means to be an adult, which is often a very shallow view, due to lack of experience.
    And since kids are optimistic and, let's face it, often pretty gullible, adopting a cynical view of the world is the easiest way to distans themselves from that and showing "I'm not a naive kid anymore."
    Both sides the extremes of the golden ratio, where the true "mature" realistic analyst lies, who can see both the good and the bad in things.
    Because, as Stephen Colbert put it; "Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it."
    And all the greatest and most successful coaches knows that you need to focus on the positive; "This works. You did good there. That was a great throw/punch/whatever." Because knowing that we learn and improve incentivises us to continue.
    Yes, it is important to recognise the flaws in the things we love, and you can learn a lot from failure. But, if you analyse it correctly, you can learn a lot from what works as well.
    One of the bests advice I ever got is this quote from the late, great Bruce Lee: "Take what works, discard what doesn't, add what's uniquely your own." Anyone in a creative field, or in sports, or life in general, can benefit from that outlook.
    Also, the whole "negative critique is seen as more refined" this is not a new phenomenon. Voltaire makes fun of it in his novel Candide from 1759 with the character Signor Pococurante, who owns a large library, a gallery of art and a beautiful garden, but can't enjoy any of it because he only sees the flaws. So yeah, he is perceived as wise. But his life is incredibly dull because he can't enjoy anything.
    I'm very glad you realised that as well. There is too much bad stuff in the world as it is, and we shouldn't turn a blind eye to it. But let us also celebrate what we love and share that joy with the rest of humanity.
    And I thank you for doing that.
    Cheers!

    • @CarbonRollerCaco
      @CarbonRollerCaco Před 2 lety +4

      I wouldn't call it the fault of actual pubescence so much as conservative adults overly shielding their young children from transgressive media while themselves scoffing at entertainment with kid appeal because they see kids, and thus entertainment for kids, as necessarily unsophisticated, resulting in kids being confused and/or antsy to enjoy the "good" stuff. Also, growing up is often associated with being realistic, and thus that gets conflated with real world-styled entertainment that kids are assumed to find "boring" for being mundane. And many tend to focus on the negative not just to balance out the positive, but to ensure that things faltering isn't overlooked as they ought to be at at least a certain minimum level of quality overall to be acceptable, thus negative thinking is valued more than positive thinking by those people while others consider them crazies losing sleep over trivialities. But, yes, there's no shame in enjoying stuff "appealing outside of your age" as long as it's not for actual bad reasons, and you need to identify the negative to know where to improve, but also the positive to know what to sustain.

    If I'm sure x2 and x3 were the first mega man x games I've ever played and probably the first mega man game I remember playing.
    I actually prefer this one over x1 for a lot of small reasons like starting off with the dash and the overall greater scope of the game and even though the power ups seem to be less powerful I find this games power ups to have more utility like using the strike chain to get the arm upgrades or using power ups to affect the weather in wire sponges stage.
    Also the magnet mine and sonic slicer are also really good weapons.
    This game ROCKS!

    I've been waiting for this! My favorite Mega Man X game!
    This game managed to fix all the issues I had with the first one:
    -Being able to quickly farm my sub-tanks with the Silk Shot charged shot in some hidden spots.
    -More versatility on item collection (did you know that you can get ALL the heart and sub-tanks WITHOUT a single armor part?), being able to get all the armor parts in ANY order and you're no longer forced to get them (I hated that in X1!).
    -More explosive set-pieces.
    -And more balanced (albeit a bit slow) bosses.
    Seriously, people tend to overlook these improvements and focus only in the inferior aspects (I rarely use the special weapons in the Mega Man games so I really don't care and music is a more subject topic).
    Capcom really wanted to improve and streamline the sequel and, in my opinion, they succeded, unlike Mega Man 2.

      For those wondering how to get the Magna Centipede Sub Tank without the Arm Part: you have to hoof it to the area just before the ST so you can destroy a purple block fast enough for another block to not hit it and keep going off the edge you usually jump from to reach the ST shaft. Being on that block then will let you catch the shaft with a dash jump+Strike Chain if necessary.

    I love X2, but I always felt it was a bit rushed, the final level is just Magna Centipede again, with the first level song, and the soundtrack, while still great, is not nearly as good as X1. Most the songs are much shorter in length, and the second castle music is my least favorite castle song in the series. X1 and X4 are my faves, with X2 in 3rd place, and X6 is a broken piece of trash but I love it, with all its flaws.

      Zero died for your sins. X2 is underrated and better than X4!
      The X-Hunters, the first Zero fight in the series, dual buster shots, a kickass intro stage. It's perfect... 🥰 So what if they recycled that lame Magna Centipede level, and if the music is A+ instead of S+???
      In X1, the final level with Sigma, is literally just a short climb up to the boss. And Vile is unbeatable in his ride armor, what a fun boss, am I right?
      X2 doesn't hold your hand and give you a farming station to heal your subtanks on the last level.. No, you get gude and work hard for that victory, like Zero said you would. 😎

      The reason for the short songs in MMX2 is because they're actually really melodical and has a lot of feelings. The songs with longer length tend to be the repetitive ones and making MMX2's music repeptitive would just make it sound like it loops unless you add another chorus or verse to which would make it sound too long as if its a song but it's supposed to be a video game music

I loved the inclusion of optional bosses to fight to get Zero's parts back, how certain stages had grinding rooms, the air dash, the Morph Moth Battle, Overdrive Ostrich theme (one of my favorites, I could listen to it while on a brisk walk).....it was also one night in a Toys R Us when I was introduced to the full Mega Man series by playing through Flame Stag's stage on a Kiosk, something I would never forget. Also, if Moth's Larval Form absorbs enough trash (it takes a couple minutes), it will get huge and then break on his own.

Not just the motorcycle intro, but another of my favorite parts is how the x-hunters are watching him on screen and are like yeah this guy's a problem, acknowledging how strong and dangerous X is instead of taking the typical villain route and underestimating him. Regarding what you said about Capcom not crediting the developers - this is actually something Atari was also very obnoxious about. They made a point that their games were "property of the company" and actively tried to dissociate the art from the artist. They also generally had a policy against making sequels, though that wasn't always strictly followed.
    There are GDC talks (I think the Paperboy one is relevant?) where some of the actual original developers were able to come forward and discuss their contributions & decisionmaking while designing and programming those games.

      That's actually a result of copyright law changing at the behest of the largest publishers out there in America. Midway, EA, Activision, and many others have similar issues with the developers being said to be 'workers for hire' which prevent expanding on characters they create for who they work for.
      Until copyright law changes (hint: Disney won't allow it) we won't get better developer input or fan made sequels that improve on the games legally.

    • @Xenobears
      @Xenobears Před 2 lety

      IIRC, one of the reasons that they didn’t like crediting people was that they wanted to keep their competitors from poaching their best staff.
      By not crediting developers, competitors wouldn’t know who to entice away from Capcom.
      However, I can’t be 100% sure about that as it was basically just a rumor when I heard it.

    • @rensten4893
      @rensten4893 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Xenobears That's actually a labor dispute issue.
      Since publishers didn't want to pay developers more, they kept pay a secret. Without unions and such, this practice affected gaming by weakening developers in bargaining power.
      But poaching does occur such as the head of the Yakuza franchise moving to Tencent because they offered more money and possibly less stress.
