It started with a writing camp and a banana... and became a phenomenon that captivated Eurovision fans across the world. But who could possibly be behind the masks?
Worst Kept Secret tells the story of @Subwoolfer - Norway's iconic Eurovision entry in 2022 and the first ever anonymous yellow wolves from space to grace the Eurovision Song Contest stage.
Finally the identities of Jim and Keith have been revealed... but not everything was always as it seemed.

The fact that the ‘translator’ was just a producer on the song that they dragged along and told nothing and f*cked with is so funny and so fitting 😂😂
He is actually also the owner of the studio/songwriting camp «The woods» where they made the song and also besides a producer, a songwriter himself. He was the co-writer on the song «Geranimo» with Umami Tsunami in MGP this year and he also work on a school as assistant professor.
Subwolfer's identity was the worst kept secret but DJ Astronaut's identity was the best kept one

I think he was at Norsk MGP and in Turin... he was in Amsterdam as a wolf (as far as I could see)...
HA! Was about to say the same and now, looking closer, you can see Gaute’s breathing in synch with his singing part as we’re supposed to focus on Jim, played by the amazing choreographer Simeon Gloppen. Very clever!

Ben driving a Porsche with the plate BA1, while Gaute drives a tiny VW with a random number plate is the funniest thing I’ve seen all week, and it’s very fitting lol

I guess it was mostly Stig who had her as an example for a weird ESC winner song and gave them the task to write a song out of the box or the 'most craziest song they could think of' as they said in interviews before. If you have seen pictures from the songwriting camps it looks like he is doing an introduction how a ESC winning song could look like and gives other informations in the morning before they start.

I am pretty sure there was a rumour about that last year, i remember talking about it with my friends. But i think nobody really thought anything about it. I think it is super funny and cool :D
@@gwendolymyes I saw it too and thought it was rather silly. Because I thought Gaute could dance with just a little extra practice. Haha. I have seen him do some simple dance moves before. Im not saying it’s easy though, warm mask, singing, dancing and not seeing much.

I live in America, and I was attending my high school prom the day during this. They actually had the show on a giant screen and all of my classmates were watching. Nobody knew what this contest was about other than it was just blowing up on social media and everyone wanted to see what was up. It was weird because I’ve watched Eurovision and was the only one who knew what it was about. I mainly watched it that year because of Norway. Amazing song and I just love it when you have people who dress up like that who’s identity are secrets. When Norway came on, my school started dancing and singing the lyrics because it was so catchy, and it is. My school really enjoyed the competition and that feedback ended up going to our superintendent. So next year, my high school will have its own song contest because of this. Thank you Subwoolfer! @@In_my_own_mind yeah, it flopped. But they still televise Eurovision on NBC (America’s national network). But it is rumored that Canada will enter Eurovision very soon. Which is cool
Since last year there also is an American version of this. It is not as good, but maybe with time it becomes great.
@@MissMoontree the problem with it is it doesn’t have the tradition that it does in Eurovision. It doesn’t do a winning host, they host it in small areas, it doesn’t have the traditional semifinals and running of the grand final, and the music culture between America and Europe is so different that it just doesn’t work

This was a bit special though, from how the song was written, to their hidden identity, the story they made etc. It wouldnt be the same with other songs in Eurovision cause they are usually created in a day or so. This was a thorough project, at least it became one.

I'm a bit confused, so has Gaute always been singing from the Dj Astro outfit? Or was just that at MGP? as he was dancing perfectly unmasked. I possibly didn't understand it fully.
I've just rewatched with English subtitles, still confusing, but looks like Gaute was Jim off stage and DJ on? His dancing unmasked was really good though, so its still confusing. Ill try and get my head around it

Behind every amazing story is a happy accident... and I love that this one is just that. from messing about in the studio to becoming "something" off the back of it. What an incredible story this is! I totally suspected that the DJ was more than just a prop...

About the meaning I think give that wolf a banana was about bullying anonymely on the internet. The wolf masks and different made up names like keith and jim symbole the anonymity, grandma the voulnerable people and giving banana getting help for the people being bullied. Taking the masks off was an important symbol that we need to face the consequences with our own identities and be real sometimes, not just hide behind the computer. Also identity crisis is normal, DJ astronaut is the perfect example of that😅
I can confidently say that I am huge boyband fan, especially A1. How in the world did I not recognise Ben's voice is beyond me!

I am kind of amazed and outraged at the same time about how they managed to keep the whole thing alive and mess with everyone...😅
Now that I know the background, with all the necessities their initial idea caused (creating their own story, dealing with all the new challenges, every event that required a new "chapter" etc.), I'm even more suprised that the whole thing didn't fall apart as soon as they were confronted with reality.
Anyway, they gave us one of my personal 2022 favorites, so I'm not gonna complain👍

Gosh, nothing can describe how amazing I find this whole thing around Subwoolfer. I've been a fan since I've first seen them on the ESC and I couldn't stop smiling throughout this whole documentary because it's just so absurd but also immensely wholesome. Lots of love.

Wybieramy hit na Eurowizję" 2023.
We referred to specific points of the preselection's rules, SMS voting and the Eurovision Song Contest itself, as well as other formal and ethical issues related to the course and results of the contest. We make the contents of the appeal available to the public.

When Johnny Weir did the commentary for 2022's American broadcast, I was really disappointed when he said something akin to "We'll there's always at least one entry that doesn't take this seriously. But fun innovative acts have always been a part of Eurovision. Like they said, Give That Wolf a Banana could only come to life through the Eurovision stage and it brings me so much joy to see how Norway and Europe has embraced them fully and wolfly for the last year.

I knew Gaute didnt have that natural dance rythm so I was really impressed by his dance moves on stage. A bit disappointing that it wasnt him who was Jim on stage after all. I thought Gaute had been on Dancing with the stars some years ago. He should’ve been able to learn that dance 😜
That was Ben😎 and he did very well. I don’t think Gaute has been on it. If he did he must have not been on for many episodes.
