ABOUT SPEAKER
Ajahn Brahmavamso Mahathera (lovingly known to most as Ajahn Brahm) was born Peter Betts in London, United Kingdom in August 7, 1951. He came from a working-class background, and won a scholarship to study Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University in the late 1960s.
After graduating from Cambridge he taught in high school for one year before travelling to Thailand to become a monk and train with the Venerable Ajahn Chah Bodhinyana Mahathera.
Whilst still in his years as a junior monk, he was asked to undertake the compilation of an English-language guide to the Buddhist monastic code - the Vinaya - which later became the basis for monastic discipline in many Theravadan monasteries in Western countries.

Ajahn Brahm, thank you for saving my life through deaths, depression, anxiety, hopelessness.
was feeling down and empty with nothing in my head giving me any joy.... but after once again watching another one of your amazing talks i can feel the corners of my lips smiling. thankyou :) and thankyou for your brain washing :)
Oh man, this monk is the best!
Actually your "terrible jokes" very much cheer me up when I'm down. Like right now, thank you.
The knower can also be to spend more time with God, helped me a lot♥️
Ajahn brahm really is free therapy... thank you ajahn brahm for making me feel so light ❤️
Ajahn Brahm is funny, thanks for the talk. I have fun learning.
Ajahn Brahm thank you so much
Ah, Ajahn Brahm, a fantastic monk and a breath of fresh air to Buddhist learning and teachings - and sometimes hilarious into the bargain! Fantastic!
which has nothing to do with the path or the practice taught by Buddha. He's a nice man but unfortunately should be in the stand up comedian business instead of monkdom. Thrown out of the Thai Theravada Tradition who ordained him, for Ordaining Bhikkhunis in Secret without proper permission, causing schisms in a 2500 year old tradition. A total Imbecile im afraid
Now move to the other side of the argument and debate from the opposite direction!
Misogyny is a manifestation of ignorance whatever the clever rationale for it. Whilst we may point to a cultural need to protect women from men in the Buddha's time, all things change, and it may usefully be argued that this is no longer skilful or useful today in the twenty first century Western Sangha.
However the problem is that Western Theravadin monastries rely on their sense of authenticity from the mother monasteries in the Developing world. Such progressive issues such as women's rights are not traditional to South East Asia where the robes and the patronage comes from.
As to humour it is one of the eight pillars of joy and can be used as a skilful means. Ajahn Brahma is expressing the Dharma as an individual in his own way.
This caused an inevitable interpretation of the situation where Ajahn Brahm was deemed to be causing a schism in the Sangha. It was therefore appropriate for all parties that he became an independent teacher.
I have no dog in the race. I am simply happy that this man is teaching the Dharma. As for him being an inbecile? Hmm.......
@@AjarnSpencer why do you choose to speak with such stupidity, Perhaps you need to seek another path?
@@AjarnSpencer who ordained the first bhikkhuni? was it a female buddha? answer me wise bhikkhu
Sadhuuuuuuuuu thanks ajahn brahm you the MAN
Thank you, my friend. 🙂
lov this guy
Dearest Venerable Ajahn Brahm, Thank you so much for brainwashing me! :)
Wow this video. I can see so clearly in his face that how compasionate and sincere he is. I've watched a lot of videos of him and this is one of the best. I'm so happy that I'm watching this video.
you are being BRAINWASHED
Don't get attached though xD
The simple idea of forcing a smile is deeper than people give credit for. Doing do relieves tension in the body and mind, which is a great way to help fight depression, since depression is a highly stressful and frustrating state to be in.
whenever i do that i laugh at myself like crazy :) This is very good to start a day!
Great talk. Helped me lighten up a bit🤙✌️🙏
Very good talk without meditation during the talk I forget myself and is happy and laughing most of the time Tjank you so much 🙏😀😄😃🤡
Thank you for sharing the...peace, beauty and joy. B.S. to the dogma associated with all religions. If it defeats the human soul it is not good for wellbeing... Me my and mine us vs them will destroy humankind. If it feeds peace, beauty and joy our world can thrive. God will sort it out when we die but it is our job here to leave the world better than we found it... Blessings to everyone.
Great teacher. I wish one day I can join his retreat, one day when the clock starts ticking again.
He has pretty eyes. I like these close up talks. Neat to see the emotion better.
emotions are supposed to be stilled, hence the word dhukkha is an abbreviation of dukkha vedhana (afflictive emotions).. Ajarn Brahm stirs emotions, instead of stilling them. he is not a wise teacher, and distorts the Dhamma. Dhamma is a double edged sword, you can cut yourself with it if you teach it wrongly. Comedy is not a tool in Dhamma teaching, you should listen to Thanissaro Bhikkhu instead
@@AjarnSpencerSounds like you have an a deeply clung to opinion which you need to let go of if you want to want to progress down the path. If some people find Ajahn Brahm's talks beneficial and they motivate them to go deeper then why hate on him?
@@AjarnSpencer the dhamma poses no danger to anyone
Sadhu sadhu sadhu
Best brainwashing ever :-) Thank you Ajahn.

I love Ajahn Brahm talks. I have watched most of his videos. Every day I watch one of his video. He talks about letting go, about being able to handle strong emotions but he never teach us an exact technique to let it go, or handle strong emotions. They keep coming up even I thought of letting it go. It has been ingrained since years. There should be a technique. I think he should let us know an exact way of letting go.
you can read his book, "Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond", teaching you about the meditation techniques
You can try breathing techniques ....excellent book anapana for serious beginners by Ajahn Buddhadasa .....even on free pdf ...Very clear instructions. For letting go have a look at Sedona and release ...Hale Dwoskin and Kris Dillard are really good ...you can use these ways of letting go in a Buddhist context ....ie with ethics and generosity ....basically it's relaxing ....welcoming an emotion and then letting it go. ....go on retreats, where a method is taught ...if possible go to a teacher who has experienced Nibbana ...as they know the path ....
go for vipassana course
Watch the clip “ 4 ways of letting go “ . Handling strong Emotion by using mindfullness meditation .
I didn't mean to dislike this video, accidentally hit it. Totally like it :) thumbs up!!!! :)

Thank you dear, i love your style. Specially talking about having to eat durian... 😉😉😉 Super funny.
24:16 please help me typing out the word so called “so one”. I don’t know that word then I can’t look up for its meaning. Thankfully!
Sotapanna - this is the pali word
That quite funny how the engine sounds 🤣
I don’t know. He makes one work for it
Thanks for the brainwash ajahn brahm 😊🙏
45:50 "you never were". Complete nihilism that makes modern Buddhism a self negating philosophy. What a bummer.
Sean G I can tell you're enlightened by your harsh speech. LOL
What is wrong with nihilism?
COULD YOU JUST TALK WITHOUT THE VICARS VOICE
You honestly think that answer is for depression...?? you are a stand up comedian ...not a Buddhist....shameful..
Cringe
