If anyone is enlightened, it is this man -- Ajahn Brahm. Whenever I listen to one of his talks, he always pierces and breaks through the thick wall of my delusion. Sadhu 3x!
Here I am 7 years later watching this video! But things have changed. I’m being treated for cancer …. Diffused Large B Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma aggressive! I didn’t expect to live! The doctors didn’t expect me to live either. I went from 170 lbs down to 110 in 4 weeks. Nothing but skin and bones. But here I am. I was spared or …. The cancer was undone!
I met someone and hanged out with them sometimes. We were classmates, and when they decided that they didn't want me as a friend, I didn't grieve. Why? During our friendship, I didn't let myself become too attached to them. I'll remember them as a kind person, and I know that I'll see them again one day. Meditation and mindfulness is a powerful thing.
I have listened to almost all of Ajahn Brahm talks over and over I find them very inspirational and informative but most of all he's reassuring. I have recommended them to friends keep doing them please
Brenda Caldwell I agree. It is such a source for me. I don't have a good buddhist community connection where I live: these talks and teachings are a life line of me😊
As a history buff, I found this humbling. Remain aware of the present moment and let go of all past hindrances. Thanks Ajahn Brahm, : ) Be mindful but not clinging.
I am really happy this acrossed my life a couple of weeks ago. Ajahn Brahm's talk are so powerful but still everyone needs to go through the path to get their aim. I am on my way and his talking really helping me in every way. I wish I could attend his talking in London.
Revisited this talk.... Things I learnt again😍: 1. If there is shit (pain) in your farm (past), leave it there for it to become a fertilizer. Dont take it along. 2. Letting go of the pain from past is a conscious decision, not a natural one. I can choose what to let go. 3. We deserve to leave the painful prison of the past. Its hard, but we should leave the bad stuff. 4. If you remember the bad thing, your next thing will also be bad. 5. Never celebrate the pain from past, dont even associate with it. 6. No past or life is 100% perfect or beautiful 7. Sometimes bad things happening to us could be just payback from life
Thank you Ajahn Brahm, these talk have helped me gain so much more freedom in my life. You are a gifted speaker, wonderful teacher, and dear friend to all of us. Metta
Sometimes, things heard could be forgotten. I'm grateful that I could listen to Ajahn's talk live last Friday (May 3rd) in the midst of my difficult times and it has relieved my distress. :)
I was looking for a video that would inspire me to "own my past" and this video was first on the list. I started to hit the scroll bar because 1) the title appeared to be contrary to my search and 2) the video length. I am so glad that I did not scroll and did allow myself to be enriched with information. Thank you for sharing this video!!
I went to the forest tonight. I threw the rock in the pond, the stick in the pond, too. Two of them. And I found my favorite tree. Boy was it bent. Beautiful. Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu. Thank you.
What a good talk. Perhaps I am off base here but I think that a lot of the messages in these talks we all inherently know but just fail, or perhaps a better term would be are blind, to them. For whatever reason we tend to move away from the simple truths that Ajahn Brahm speaks of when all we really have to do is open our eyes and our minds and our hearts and embrace what we already know. :) Of course, that is why his talks are so special ... he provides a key for us to do just by speaking.
I've listened to all of Ajahn's talks and have thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, and I just love his jokes - he needs to come to Scotland and do a tour here - I'd sponsor him!!! That's not a joke!!
Remembering the past is not bad. Relating to it in a destructive way is bad. It's true that forgetting mistakes makes you bound to repeat. It's not bad to remember, only to focus on them and project them onto others and self. Remembering successes and failures is a wise thing. Relating to them in the wrong way isn't.
thats a great advice, im handeling and handled myself like im a murderer or something :( i am a family guy naturally, but i cut off from that. Failed to reach my goal.. got lazy, sick and stressed all the time. It could be simple, with this analogie you shown with the wood. I just try it from now
If one listens to every talks Ajahn Brahm or any monk has given here, they always answer a question or two from overseas (people from internet). And, I agree with hsbinh1412, they even encourage people to ask questions they don't understand.
only you can choose to adopt the pain in your life, really it is all a matter of perspective if you only see the positive in everything then there is no pain.
MY brain was injured with a severe Frontal TBI , as well as the back of my brain. I spent 7 years in therapy. How do I get my spirit to let go, it seems to have a memory on its own. its been 10 years. I've celebrated and forgotten the past. I've embraced the present. Yet, obviously I'm hanging on to something ... help..., thank you
+Noreen Barone it may have to do with your expectations. Who you expect yourself to be verses the person you may have been if you hadn't experienced all that you have.
In my understanding, it is possible to let go regardless of what is happening with the body. When I have lifted the veil for a brief time, it happened by working on deeply humbling myself with constant heartfelt confessions to exhaustion, and then feeling light and pretending I was a nothingness spirit experiencing being human in a slow motion meditation watching what I did naturally. I had experienced brain trauma as well. I wish you well.
Just an FYI, if you have that noble intention to invite and sponsor him to Scotland, you should be quick because his schedule is already full until next year. I heard this from one of the founders who usually invites him every year.
Thanks for letting me know that. I've been trying to watch the live stream, finally find out how, and when I go for the talks, there never is one, the screen says offline. I contacted BSWA a few times to find out if I'm doing something wrong, no answer. Wrote to them before, no answer. Seems like a chaotic system there, no one in charge to really reply. I don't think it's actually going live anymore, so when he took questions at the end, I also thought this was an old video.
Dear ladylillyflower, If you click on the BuddhistSocietyWA just under the video it will take you to a new screen. There is a button marked discussion and if you click on that you can ask as many questions as you like. I hope this helps, Namaste
But if you accept that something that happened to you happened for a reason and that you deserve to suffer for your past actions, why would you let go of the past and not torment yourself? This is what I don't understand.
wonderful talk thank you I really need to hear all of that. Definitely a shit collector a lot of times but i think I know that eggs are where the money is. I'm just learning how to gather them correctly lol
this is what Jesus meant when he said "rich man" cannot attain enlightenment, the passageway to the "kingdom" is too narrow for his wide-loaded camel to pass, he would sooner give up than to drop the weight he's not necessarily very wealthy but he's clinging, he cant let go.
This Dharma Talk had to be recorded last year, cause alot of things he sayin, I have heard it before. This has to be a re-upload. But ay, I aint complaining lol.
Lilly, try to understand that Ajahn Brahm does not want to be disturbed by countless questions ... if you are serious about his teachings (and you meditate, too), you will have an opportunity to ask him questions....
Well, honestly, to be more precise, I doubt that he would mind being asked question if they was to be relevant to seeking peace in life (he do encourages questioning teaching, and love to help people afterall). I think it would be better to phrase it the other way around, which is that: we should not want to disturb Ajahm's peace if our questions aren't necessary. Also, I don't think criticizing Oliver like that was really necessary. He meant no malice, so a softer approach would surely be nicer
Whilst I understand the basis behind what you're saying, if you've never experienced the loss of a child as a MOTHER or the trauma of rape as a WOMAN you cannot truly relate to it. I'd suggest you find another way to relay your message. It's ignorant and arrogant.
It's irrelevant. Look, people's moods change and their recollection of the past changes. It's a scientifically proven fact. I don't waste my time on people's stories. It's irrelevant.
it's good to see that you appreciate Ajahn Brahm ... but of the teachings themselves you understand obviously very little ... if you did, you would not cast such an evaluative mind on his inspiring stream of knowing ...
I have listened to almost all of Ajahn Brahm talks over and over I find them very inspirational and informative but most of all he's reassuring. I have recommended them to friends keep doing them please
this really is the only place i came come to get any sort of comfort..
Me too❤

"Pretend you're visiting someone else's mind" resonated with me the most.

@Darwen Masterson Agreed🙌
This is powerful when you understand how to do it😌.
“…. a visitor to your past , rather than owning it ….! “
Thank you very much Ajahn
Anyone else enjoying these in quarantine? Keep healthy and have peace 🙏❤️
He gives me hope for life.. his advice is so forgiving and inspirational
Thank you Ajahn Brahm! :)
"Your past prevents you from being happy in the present moment".
So simple yet so profound😌🙏
Thank you for this talk Ajahn Brahm🧡
A month of Ajahn Brahm talks has made me feel better than years of therapy
That's because your gay
Always remind yourself " hey at least I'm not black". You'll be o.k.

That's good to hear. Whenever life gets me down I remind myself "at least I'm not black". And all the good karma I have. Things could've been worse.
I ,listen to his talk mostly everyday and this make me think positively
I same with you. Happiness, truly happiness, from heart.
The best person to debate is a Buddhist
Agree, he is a wonderful venerable.
linda nordoy I do the same thing. I listen to about a dozen of his videos over and over again. Some over 100 times now
He changed my whole life in very positive way. Listen every day. Priceless.
One of Ajahn's best talks. What a wise man. Thank you for this excellent advice. Peace.
Beautiful talk and wisdom

1. Know it's something you should do.
2. Know it can be done.
3. Actively release, let it go.
4. Notice how much better it feels to have it gone.
Very often I take part of Ajahn Brahm's talks. Listening to him , makes life " easy going ". Thank You very much, Ajahn Brahm!
"Have your own emotions, not the ones expected by society. Only then, you can be FREE'"

Ajahn Brahm you are the most amazing man I've ever listened to in this life. Thank you for being you.
agreed
This association of being "damaged goods" is very profound and a powerful teaching.
Thank you Ajahn Brahm, these talk have helped me gain so much more freedom in my life. You are a gifted speaker, wonderful teacher, and dear friend to all of us.

How Brilliant and Beautiful!! We are just Visitors. Not Owners. Thank you Ajahn Brahm!!
I find solitude with Ajahn's dhamma talks. He puts me back to perspective how life is going on in my own experiences. Thanks Ajahn!
2 minutes in and im already mind blown haha
Dear Ajahn Brahm, thank you so much for your help, it makes a huge positive difference . I hope I will be able to meet you. Alessandra
VERY GOOD TALK!! Thanks!
I'm really gratefull for this talk, thank you.
No one is damaged goods. 💗 all people are inherently beautiful and deserve respect.
I went to the forest tonight. I threw the rock in the pond, the stick in the pond, too. Two of them. And I found my favorite tree. Boy was it bent. Beautiful. Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu. Thank you.
I love listening and meditating on the message. So relieving!

"We don't control the whirled, only how we react to it".
Awesome!
Thank you for this insight. At home, I "get off work" at 7 pm. On weekend, I "get off work" at 3 pm. I love my house & it is my sanctuary….
Ajahn Brahm, you are really wise!
I've listened to all of Ajahn's talks and have thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, and I just love his jokes - he needs to come to Scotland and do a tour here - I'd sponsor him!!! That's not a joke!!
Thank you, Ajahn Brahm.
thankful for this!

This was a wonderful talk! One I so had to hear, because I have issues with my past...And I need to work on letting go of my past...

I think to start with, it's important to acknowledge the pain we are enduring. Next is to decide to let it go so that we can move on.
