    I have a tiny oscillating engine made by an elderly model engineer, about 1/10th the size of your one Laurie. I have only ever run it on compressed air and due to the tiny surface area of the piston, it needs at least 75 PSI, at which point it runs at about 2000 RPM.

    Just to let you know Lawrie - we sold the website out

    I am surprised other than Mamod that no one else has decided to bring out some EU/UK/US safety specified little engines like this. This engine if it had the correct safety items like a proper safety valve and sight glass on the boiler would be excellent.

    Hornby produced a fully working live steam mallard in 1:76 scale, you gotta get one. These are amazing little replicas

    • @capmodesty
      @capmodesty Před 23 dny

      If Laurie does go for one he should seek out the live steam owners club, saw them at Doncaster and the information they were able to give was way ahead of what Hornby's marketing team put out

    I wonder if this can run on a tea light, The flame is a lot smaller but perhaps given some extra time to heat the water it could work.

    remaining water - can you just weigh the whole thing empty to know how much water is inside?

    • @PeterJewell2
      @PeterJewell2 Před měsícem +2

      Well, you can do just that with gas bottles, so you should be able to with this if you have accurate-enough scales handy
      Good idea.

    No, a steam engine can be bought in europe without the glass or a safety valve. Look at the Wilesco D2.

      Driving an engine is easy.
      Driving it well is an artform.
      The roll of the driver on heritage railways today is much more than just driving though
