    This is the Ferrari of GPS units. More than I could have asked for... checks every single box for me. It's like they truly listened to diehard hikers and just jammed in every feature they wanted. The InReach integration is killer. No brainer purchase.

    • @kai-uweoch1159
      @kai-uweoch1159 Před 3 lety +2

      I recently checked out the XT of a friend and was really disappointed. It still feels like a "take me to an address" GPS, but not something for advanced route planning. No vehicle profiles, is one example - at least I could not find them. They are visible in the video. And all points of interest that are imported from Basecamp are shown as white hearts in a green box (favorites) - not the symbol I assigned before in BC. The Montana 700 seems to do all that much better. So if you can live without gimmicks like tyre pressure control, media player or service log, the 700 is the better choice, for sure if you also want to use it off the bike for hiking or geocaching like me. I just wished it would import shaping points, like my 276cx does. I am very close to ordering one anyway... ;-)

    • @tolga1cool
      @tolga1cool Před 3 lety

      @@kai-uweoch1159 Tbf the XT is meant to be a Motorcycle navigator. So no other profiles required. Also it has street oriented features for generating round trips or adventurous (=curvy) routes. The Montana 700 series is mainly an outdoor map Plotter with routing options built in. They are two completely different devices aimed at different customers

    I currently own the Garmin InReach Explorer+ and the Oregon 750. Less than two hours after the e-mail from Garmin announcing the Montana 700 series, I ordered the Montana 750i from the Garmin store. Two birds. One stone. Thanks! :-)
    I still need to figure how to carry it. I've been attaching the InReach to a daisy chain on my pack's left shoulder strap and the Oregon to a pouch on my belt. I'd like to attach the Montana in a similar way to the InReach, which hangs from a carabiner.
    I hope I can receive the unit before the start of my Monday-Wednesday hike in Yosemite, but I'm sure to have it by the time I do Whitney and Langley again late this month or early next.

    • @LeifurHakonarson
      @LeifurHakonarson Před 4 lety +2

      You've identified the biggest problem with the 700 series- the lack of a proper attachment point. The Montana 600 series has a wide slot for attaching a carabiner by means of a strap, the 700 series only has a tiny lanyard attachment. They seem to have assumed only people with vehicles would want these ...

Retired now, and thought that I purchased my last GPS receiver when I got a Montana 680t the other year. Nope! Because of my solo wanderings in the mountains of North Idaho, have been told to get an inReach. Costco is currently selling the inReach Mini and while researching it, stumbled upon the Montana 750i. this is a great motivational sales pitch....but...I have had a Montana 700 since Dec 20. To date I have not been able to use the device because of the following issues:
    - Device wont follow a simple route WP1 => WP2 =>WP3 etc
    - Compass freezes when moving
    - Device doesn't change from WP1 to WP2 when you get to WP1.
    - Compass screen doesn't calculate time to next WP and estimated time to the end point
    I have tried multiple things routeing setup, compass setup, compass calibration etc...even tried Ordinance Survey Garmin UK 25k maps
    Nothing seems to work. Have been trying everything that Garmin Support say, but nothing is working.
    Have you experienced anything like this or any of your followers?
    Really not impressed with this "high end" very expensive device....
    Would love to hear back from you or anyone with similar issues.
    Maybe it is me...maybe I am being stupid....but I do have an old GPS Map 62s which works fine with routing and also a Fenix 6 x which also works...
    Any help appreciated.

    This unit should have been released 5 years ago . The technology was well available 10 years ago . Not sure what the hold up was with incorporating gps mapping as well as communication via text in one unit.
    Hard to tell by this video... but I sure hope the resolution of the screen is on par with current smart phones . The Montana units that proceeded these ones had a grainy display like a digital camera had 20+ years ago . I’m not sure why all the most current and best technologies take so long to make their way to hand held gps units .
    This one looks like they may finally be catching up to what gps units should have already been .

    Secondly, when mounted on a snowmobile or ATV, will the vibrations cause the maps to dance around? Both my Montana and my 276CX are frustrating to use because when the sled or atv are idling the maps are constantly shifting. My old 276 never did that at all.

    Started with 12XL, then GPSmap76, GPSmap76sc, Montana 650, beta tested DeLorme PN series including PN60W with InReach messaging,
    and have the DeLorme InReach Explorer. Messaging and entering waypoint comments is extremely tedious on the Explorer or 66i series!
    I use the Montana for tracks & waypoints along with PN60W, (for backup track recording in more detail) for mapping bicycle trails/routes for my website and openstreetmap updates. I carry the Explorer whenever I may venture range out of cell phone range.
    (My Montana developed a hole over power button, no longer waterproof, and has a random shutdown issue when selecting waypoint symbol for change that no update has ever corrected.) The Montana 650 has survived a number of falls from mtb mount onto concrete and survived.
    Am finally considering an update, but its pricey!

      Bonjour, merci pour votre commentaire. Les cartes sur le Montana 750i contiennent plutôt les routes et les sentiers balisés. Malheureusement, c’est improbable que les voies équipées soient sur la carte. Cependant, vous pouvez créer des itinéraires directement sur l’appareil si vous savez où se trouve la voie. Concernant les pierres, voulez-vous utiliser la carte sur l’appareil ou la caméra ? La carte ne contiendra pas d’information sur les pierres dans l’eau, mais selon les conditions vous pourrez essayer de prendre une photo avec la caméra.
      Si vous avez d’autres questions concernant le fonctionnement de cet appareil, nous vous suggérons de contacter l’assistance technique de Garmin France : support.garmin.com/fr-FR/.

    I don't like Garmin mapping. It's rubbish if you want an accurate topological view of the landscape. Also is it fully compatible with Bssecamp? Previous Zumo devices weren't. You'd spend a lot of time in Bssecamp choosing suitable symbols for POIs, but after transferring your route to the Zumo all the POI symbols would be changed to one generic symbol making it impossible to distinguish them. Waste of time. I'd much rather use my Smartphone, much better screen and faster to use plus all the other things it can do.

    • @GarminRetailTraining
      @GarminRetailTraining  Před 4 lety

      Thank you for your question. The Montana 700 series has both Mountain Bike and Tour Cycling profile options built-in. It does not have any cycling specific pages, but you can customize the data fields on the Trip Computer, Compass, Map, and Altimeter pages to show some cycling data. The available data fields can be seen here......www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-20A50E5B-3DFB-42C7-A3B4-8D55519B532C/EN-US/GUID-37A0AE2A-98CD-4463-ADB9-13749D79B09F.html. While it's not compatible with Varia products, power meter data, or cycling dynamics, it IS compatible with our HR monitors and speed and cadence sensors. You can also broadcast HR data from a compatible fenix device as well. I hope this helps.

However, you may have to purchase maps for a specific region separately. Also if you get a device with inReach technology, some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communications devices. It is the responsibility of the user to know and follow all applicable laws in the jurisdictions where the device is intended to be used. I hope this helps.

    No way to attach this to a carabiner ? Hmm, I have an inReach mini, and attach it to a carabiner, at one end, and a Retractable Lanyard, on the end. That way, I can pull the string on the retractable lanyard, and look at the inReach mini, and see my information. From what I can see, I cannot do that. Really annoying to pay more than $100 CAN for a device, and cannot attach it, for doing hiking. The video is showing someone doing hiking. Please Garmin, come up with a solution to attach this for a hiker. As of now, because of this, I will not buy it, I will stick with my inReach mini.
