Female Custodes and the Mental Health Benefits of Painting Miniatures!

- Miniature Painting is Healthy! It can be a valuable tool for emotional maintenance. Creative, calming, and restorative. It's a great way to disconnect from the horrors of the internet for a little while and build that attention span back up. Join me for this meditation as I paint some lady custodes models for Warhammer 40k :-)
Lots of studios are making good head sculpts, in this video I used 8 different 3D printed heads from a Kickstarter by Keta-Minies. Prints were at 120% scale to match the superhuman statue of the custodes models.
www.kickstarter.com/projects/....
This is the old kickstarter from Keta-Minies where I got the heads in this video www.kickstarter.com/projects/keta-minies/alternatives-females-heads-stl-for-tabletop They also have another head bundle live now at the time of posting! www.kickstarter.com/projects/keta-minies/alternatives-females-heads-vol2-stl-for-tabletop-and-wargames?ref=profile_created
Love how just the head switch did a great job at getting the job done
Cheers Brent, I had the campaign saved but this pushed me to go back it now.
You're a good dude. Thanks for being the Bob Ross we need.
Anyone else want to see a Bob Ross 40k conversion? Painting some little trees in power armour…
@@joemacleod-iredale2888 That would work great in a larger model, like a Titan or a huge tank or flyer.
I came here to post this, and I have seen disco heads with afros for different races... like orks... I'm tempted...
Now I want him to use cadmium yellow on a mini
Other than the fish torture videos😢
Thank you for always being so wholesome, positive and sensible.
You know, this video convinced me that white with gold trim looks really good for the Custodes.
right??? I like that one too! :-)
absolutely
It is a classic for a reason.
excellent paint jobs
It worked for Liberace!
Waking up and seeing the minis you painted overnight in the daylight is such a treat. Love that you mentioned that.
"Predictable and miserable and buffoonish" is the perfect summing up of the gamer rage too.
Yeah! It’s funny how exciting it can be to go pick up a mini you spent hours on the night before and somehow it’s like a new experience seeing it again 8 hours later

My wife and I both appreciate your positivity. In her words, you're 'a good egg'.
hehehe, tell her she's a good egg too
Using nail clippers to make the curved cuts for your basing material??? Genius!
right??? this was my first time trying that, and it works pretty dang good!! :-) not sure how the radius of curvature matches up to different base sizes though....
Secretly the best tip in this video
It's not an exaggeration, it is therapeutic.
Absolutely! :-) Perhaps not all doctors would prescribe it as an actual capital T Therapy, but it's legitimately a very healthy pastime.
@@GoobertownHobbies My neurologist actually put a note in my charts, instructing me to paint miniatures. I explained the hobby to her and she was thrilled by the improvements it had caused.
@@ShawnMM outstanding!! Keep goin keep goin! :-)
In my therapy assessment I talked about painting minis and d&d and both were on my notes as important targets to maintain
@@rohanalmond I probably wouldn't have gotten back into the hobby as an adult if it wasn't a recommendation by my psychiatrist
corporate greed IS a blight, so keep on preaching the word of art as a form of meditation !
That Purple Custodes looked so good.
ty! it was fun exploring outside the usual "gold-all-over" color schemes for these models :-)
I do paint mine with gold all over and purple accents. They work amazingly well!
Purple and good is such an underrated color combo imo. Gold, yellow, and orange all can look really good with a solid dark purple.
Brent, you beautiful human, what would be of us without you
Hell's yes, I just have to remind myself that these are for me and don't care if they're not perfect.
Lol I just came to a startling conclusion. This video did more for my mental health than 3 months with a therapist. You are awesome man. Seriously.
"If you burst a blood vessel, and have to see St. Peter for THIS... well... he's gonna laugh at you"
Incredible.
Brent, I mean this sincerely, and without exaggeration: you are the most wholesome person on the Internet.Thank you for being you.
thanks for hanging out in goobertown! :-)
Mr. Goobertown, thank you for your calming presence. Your videos are the opposite of rage bait, they are a calm feast
come on in and join the calmfeast! :-)
@@GoobertownHobbies I definitely will ( ' v ')b
“Rage bait” is when Brent goes fishing with Blood Angels models.
I appreciate this video. I recently went through a rough patch. My partner saw I was in a rut and encouraged me to host a D&D game for a campaign I'm running (the encouragement was telling me that they already reached out to the players and scheduled the game date lol). I started making maps and painting minis. Hosting the game was great this past weekend. I'm glad I have family and friends that support my hobby.
That makes me happy to hear! I wish you many happy campaign sessions in the future :-)
The last days, I was really annoyed and depressed by CZcams, because every video title told me that I suck and wanted to explain why. Watching this video gave me some boost of positive energy. Thank you for that.
I think you're pretty cool and you can do anything that you set your mind to! :-)
That stuff's the worst. Hell, some of those videos may offer good advice and maybe the creators even have good intentions. But that way of advertising is so exploitative and predatory, they get by on upsetting people's sense of adequacy, and to have it jarred like that all the time is definitely not good for the brain. If people want to re-evaluate themselves, let them do it on their own time.
Oh boy Goobertown video? Here we go! Its a good day
Really good video, fantastic view of how humans need some sort of outlet creativity. Makes it better than just mindlessly consuming whatever gets shoved in your face.
@@MatchaBarnes Well said. Having a creative outlet is so important for human beings. For me, it's spread from my miniatures painting hobby through making and painting DIY terrain to a foam cutter, 3D printing, a CNC materials cutting machine, a laser cutter, and a CNC machine for wood, plastic, etc.
I'm now experimenting with making concrete statuary molds for yard ornaments. The process never really ends.
I'm now looking at building a full workshop to house all of my making tools and hobbies under one roof, just to get them all out of my living space.
My 115 condo neighbors have become some of my best customers and promoters. Who would have thought that could have grown out of painting a few miniatures years ago?
Love the rational and calm demeanour and critique of today's savage internet nerd warrior culture...

oh no, what have we set in motion!!! we're living in a nightmare!!! :-)
I’m just about to watch the video but the title of the video caught my attention straight away and just want to say I started painting to get out of my own head, I don’t play any of the war games or D&D, I just love to paint minis for the peace
I think you'll resonate with this video then! :-) It's a wonderful hobby that we've found.
Thank you Brent. You are always a positive light in an all too often dark and cynical world. And your videos always make my wife and I smile. So, once again, thank you. Keep well. 🖖
hope you're having a great day! :-)
'Here is one indignity of the modern world, right here. Sixty dollars for five models, and Games Workshop is about to raise prices again. Corporate greed is a blight. It weighs us down every day.'
This quote goes HARD.
I just said to my wife, "He reminds me of Bob." For context, Bob was a guy I knew in school. Genuine, honest, down to earth bloke, always smiling and always friendly. I can't remember him saying a bad word to anyone, or anyone having anything bad to say about him. A true gentleman who never failed to lift my spirits.
So yes Brent, you remind me of Bob.
gotta be like bob :-)
Here I thought you first meant Bob Ross, and I thought "I can totally see that!"
@@Izzboticus Ahhh, in a way I did, for Bob Ross and Bob Davis could be beard brothers in chillness.
The oil wash going down is basically therapy
you would say that

After dealing with this CZcams drama myself, this video is a blessing for my nerves. I always love the way you make CZcams content, Brent. Amazing videos as always. I also love the two Custodians in white and purple armor-super cool!
hey TY cory! great vid last week.
You, your kind and calming attitude and your general love and enthusiam of miniature painting is what got me into this hobby last summer. Now after a couple of months of assembling minis I'm finally starting to paint the first minis and I always keep coming back to your videos. Not only miniature painting has mental health benefits, watching your videos does too! Thank you so much. I absolutely love my new hobby :)
That's awesome!!! I'm so excited that you're off to a good start, keep goin keep goin!!!
@@GoobertownHobbies Thank you!
Great video, great thoughts, and some great results! Always great to see you spread the message of tolerance, painting, and taking care of our mental health!
Completely agree with everything you've said, but I'm actually here to say "Wow those bases you made are sooooo cool!"
those turned out alright, eh? This was my first time using that technique, and I might try it again! :-)
I didn't watch enough of your content, Brent, but every time I do I remember how glad I am that people like you do exist in the world.
"It's predictable, and miserable, and buffoonish"
Hear hear. Well said!
This is a great topic.
I've told so many people about the mental health benefits of painting miniatures, terrain, etc.
I have been diagnosed with PTSD and painting models helps quite a bit, even if it's only for as little as 20 minutes per day. Usually, I have at least one cat nearby or on my lap and my dog at my feet.
Sometimes several hours can go by while I'm painting and modeling, until my cats ask to be fed or my dog asks to go for a walk outside. By that time, I'm ready to get up for a stretch and a walk myself.
It also allows me time to think and improves my decision making and prioritizing abilities.
Sometimes, I listen to a podcast or play my favorite music in the background.
It's also far less costly than therapy.
Hey Gene, thanks for sharing your experience with this! I've found the cat/ painting combo to be quite relaxing myself.... most of the time... :-)
@@GoobertownHobbies I can definitely agree on the "most of the time" part!
if female stormcast can be great then I don't see why female custodes can't
Friendie! Your voice is 100% soothing! Thank you for bringing comfort to a segment of the world that definitely needs it.
Bob Ross of warhammer indeed
Your voice is meditative tbh ❤️
I appreciate you!! :-)
we recently came back from a painting competition. girlfriend thought it was great that more women are getting involed in the hobby and being recognised at the highest levels. Miniature painting should be for everything regardless of who you are.
That's awesome! Things are certainly trending in the right direction, I hope you had a wonderful time! :-)
As a woman who mainly paints Salamanders and really tries to be a positive influence on the people around me, the whole outrage has been kind of heartbreaking. Really makes me worried what the dudes at the LGS think when I walk in. Thank you so much for being a force for good. I always feel calm and encouraged when I watch your videos. That's the vibe I want to bring to my hobbying too.
People don't have a problem with women. People have a problem with lore and things being changed for no other reason than to "appear" progressive. The men at your LGS will think, "hey, there is so and so. What's up!"
This was delightful to watch and a lovely change of pace from the previous weeks' average content on the subject. Thanks for not only highlighting how good this hobby can be for folks, but also making the hobby feel like an inclusive and welcoming place again.
???
Nail clippers to smooth out the base edge... you just blew my mind
I tried this for the first time this week... and yeah, it's pretty cool! now we have to go shopping for nail clippers with different radius of curvature for our different base sizes!! :-)
great video! Love the models and the topic.
Thank you for always approaching everything with calm kindness. You're one of my favorite CZcamsrs.
Agreed! Painting minis and crafting my very own fantasy world is critical to my mental health. As dorky as some people think it is, I proudly love it!
I find it rather troubling that whether or not their are women Custodes is what gets all the rage not constant rules churn, the invalidating of models, units, and entire armies or the never-ending price hikes. Those are real things to be troubled by.
Agreed! That observation makes it clear that a LOT of the rage was coming from outside the hobby from folks who don't care about the minis or the game but DO have issues with women.
Its not a problem with women. Its the fact politics enter a fantasy realm.
I dont move into a hobby to remind me of identity politics. I also refuse to be called a bigot.
The whole athmosphere of the Hobby is a welcoming one. And i myself am a chill dude.
Also dont forget you dont need lore to do what you want. The moment i started the hobby there were always 2 ways to approach an army or model.
1. Look at established factions.
2. Do something you imagine.
You could always make a whole female custodes army and i would say how cool is that. Actively pushing some current Agenda into a fictional world is really, really hurtful.
I would have said "cool Ladies" but now its stained with the knowledge that a person with female custodes might show their politic preferences. It wont let me dislike people but its another moment were fun and fantasy is tainted with real world problems.
@@Corey91666 What "current agenda" do you think is being pushed by women existing? Why are women existing political when men existing is apparently "not political". This whole post makes no sense, if youre chill and dont care, you think the hobby is welcoming, and you think someones lady custodes army would be cool, then why on earth do you care if GW changes the "lore"?
Literally the beginning of the video adresses this absolute nonsense concern trolling. The rogal dorn has apparently been in use for 10,000 years but appeared out of nowehere in 2023. The votann have been strip mining the centre of the universe for 10,000 years and we never heard of them, then in 2023 they are everywhere. GW doesn't care about maintaing their "lore" and there can be no legitimate argument for not including women in the hobby on the basis of the immutability of this "lore"
@@Corey91666 ...so you're projecting your imaginary issues on to someone because they "might" do something. That's fucking insane mate.
@@Ryan30z not really. Its just the fact that when you make experiences that they might be tight to specific things.
Symbols of all kind of things do connect to specific things or Events.
I have a bunch of other interests and e.g. played TCG tournaments with a trans woman. We had a fun time and also talked. Beside some insecurities on her side at first it was all good. Do what you want with your life as long as it doesnt interfere with someone elses.
But dont tell me i am projecting when it is known that identity politics are indeed forcefully implmented in the lore and stuff.
Its a difference to treat people respectfully and normally instead of pushing third party interests that only have you on either side a or b.
Think of me what you want but i am as tolerant and accepting as a person can be. In no way i will treat people bad because of whatever reason. But accept the fact that i do not 100% want to face politics in my hobby with a community forcing me to take a stance or be an idiot.
Unfortunetly even Brent did in fact project his despise towards people that disagree on this matter and its the exact reason i dislike this whole debate. He is true though about moving away from certain media and media in general, but i came to figure that out all alone.
I have nerve damage and problems with the tendons in my hands. The painting of miniatures has been excellent physical therapy for my hands. It has greatly reduced the severity and frequency of the pain. I also listen to audiobooks as I paint and that combination is very relaxing.
That's awesome to hear!!! From your first sentence I was worried that you weren't able to paint minis, but this is excellent news, thank you for sharing :-) Keep on paintin!
Same here Shawn. It's been great to get back in the hobby and feel my hand actually improve from it.
Not only a video about the beauty of painting miniatures, but also with a lot of wisdom. 👍
As an occupational therapist, miniature/model painting IS in fact something I've helped mental health patients who've shown an interest get into.
Most MH hospitals have some form of art and crafts room, and occupational therapy is heavily involved in research into the benefits of hands-on creativity in helping people to find relaxation, meaning and the concept of "flow," so when I brought some Bolt Action models and paints onto the mixed gender ward I was on and just started assembling and painting, it was amazing to see how many people either came over to watch or actually get involved. It was really pleasing to see, and we got a lot of good feedback from the patients, so now model-making is a regular session they run there.
That's awesome! Thank you for sharing. This doesn't surprise me, but it does make me smile. Thanks for sharing our hobby with folks :-)
"Indignity" is a really good way to put the results of corporate greed. Whew, these prices are insane
right???
Not a fan of the hyperbole. Everything is expensive. Have you bought groceries lately? 60 seems like a lot, but compared to what? 60 is what my LGS charges for the Modern Horizons 3 prerelease and trust me I will get more value out of Custodes. 60 bucks will not get me a decent night out with my wife between the cost of the restaurant, sitter, and movie.
Excellent script.
I spent most of my adult life in an exclusively male only environment. I was fortunate to have had numerous paradigm shifting experiences, and when I think back on my early adult life, I realize we were a bunch of immature idiots.
I picked up miniature painting again for the first time in 15 years after my mother passed. Having a whole summer off as I was a teacher right after. Such an experience was scary but getting into this hobby and finding channels like this really allowed me to get into a better headspace and take care of myself. I also ended up with some very fun models and friends because of it. Thanks for making videos like these and bringing attention to these important things in this hobby.
I'm glad you're finding things that make you happy! I hope you have a wonderful weekend :-)
Same to you! Thanks for the always mindful content. @@GoobertownHobbies
My dad has always emphasised the importance of watching the news and "keeping up to date with what's going on in the world". A lifetime of doing that will turn even the biggest optimist into a bitter old person. Nerd rage feels like something similar. It's unhealthy and will shorten your life. The message here is so, so important - if just one person listens and benefits from the advice in the video, it's had a huge impact. It needed to be said and you said it beautifully ❤️ Thanks 🙏
My friend you have a big solid point there, i do share your opinión but i have a problem with all of this. When a company like GW that is so greedy go moral with this and uses minorities or woman to say they are morally right and then they charge you 60 bucks for five plastic figures...., this....., painting IS relaxing i guess
Still have yet to see a single video of yours Brent that was just "OK", they all inspire me somehow. That said, this one really hit home. I've been in the miniature painting hobby on and off for over 40 years, and only been back into it about a year. A major reason I returned was to improve my mental health, and it has done wonders. Only about a month into this newest leg of my hobby journey did I find your channel, and I don't think there's any videos left you have posted, that I have not watched. And there's many I've watched multiple times. This is going to be one of them.
Also, you owe me $60 for the Custodes I'll be buying this weekend at my local hobby store, because I REALLY need to paint some now! ❤ As always, Thanks Brent!
hahahaha, nooooo I'm not responsible for your purchases! Thanks for the kind words, I hope you have a great weekend! :-)
Brent: Miniature painting is a relaxing hobby.

But seriously, thank you for being such a voice for positivity in the hobby space, and for calling out the nerd rage baiters out there. We appreciate you!
I believe in you! wash the glue off your hands and try again :-)
@@GoobertownHobbies Good news: after doing a bit of filing, clipping, and filling in the gaps with green stuff, the two pieces now connected more or less cleanly.
Not to mention that there’s no reason you can’t paint miniatures from different armies as the genders/ ethnicity that the person who bought them 😭😭 I’m yet to hear a good argument against the introduction of female custodes
Brent, thanks for taking your best shot at cooling the rage. I hope everyone listens. Well done, sir.
thats why i bought a 3D printed. I printed and painted a full 3k points dwarf army to shut up the voices on my head, at least temporally.
People cry about femstodes, buth they still ignore the posibility of alternate timelines, like Dornian heresy. or whathever alternative you made. And if somebody complains, WARP.
painting is healthy, I'm glad it helps! Dwarfs rule.
the off white armor is really nice
I am thankful that this version of you is alive and well on youtube. This hobby needs grounded, calm, smart, unapologetically positive Goobertown Brent.
My Space Wolves have had female marines for years. I did the same thing as you, just swap heads and voila, female coded marine it is! No need for over sexualized body tight armour or exaggerated non-gravity boob armour. just regular armour, regular body, female head.
that's the spirit! :-)
I can't touch grass (or just about any plant), I'm severely allergic. 🙁
But I can touch brush and paint and plastic. That gives me comfort.
painting is also good hehehehe 🙂
How are you with static grass???
When you live in a state where it's winter for half the year it is necessary to have a calming hobby. Great video and message in it Brent

@@GoobertownHobbies besides having to go out plowing I try to stay at home all winter as well. Summer I mow and race in the mud so the minis get stuffed in the closet until snow flies again
Not really a fan of custodes (or marines for that matter) in general, but watching you paint these models kind of makes me want to try to do the same :)
Thanks for the thoughtful video, great paint jobs, and solid advice.
Indeed, beware of those that peddle divisiveness, easy answers to hard problems, and half truths. And when that price tag upsets you, take some comfort that there's lots of great stuff outside the GW ecosystem that is less expensive. Paint bravely! 🎨🖌️
That is some great work on the edge highlighting. And of course, I'm loving your commentary on the larger philosophical and cultural themes!
I love this painting painting AND I appreciate your perspective. Thank you for speaking up for kindness and compassion!
Okay, I don’t Like videos that often, but the commentary on the CZcams rage bait channels, plus the idea of painting being useful for mental health, are both too good not to give this video a Like and share it with other people!
Thanks for saying that, I'm glad you're here :-)
This one reminds me of some of the more mental health orientated videos you put out during the pandemic, which I enjoyed a lot. Thanks for all you do!
I love you Brent. You're so refreshingly chill and supportive. I definitely fall into the trap of watching too much political doom videos because I'm terrified of the GOP and desperate for hope. But I've been trying to stop watching those types of videos because I'm aware they are hurting my mental health. Your videos and this one especially are just so damn relaxing. I wish you streamed painting because throwing on a 4 hour video of you painting while I paint something myself sounds like therapy to me.
we all gotta go get some more fresh air! I hope you have a great weekend! :-)
Do you watch/listen to paint bravely the podcast? It's Brent and Casey from eBay miniature rescue doing just that ;)
Anger is fine, but it's also easy to give too much of ourselves to it. Never forget that acting on anger is a choice. If it feels like you don't have a choice, reach out to a mental health professional.
One of the Custodes looks like 80s era Grace Jones in power armor, which i think would be an amazing choice for casting if Warhammer ever became a film. The minis look really good!
right??? I was thinking that the whole time :-)
GOOBERTOWN HOBBIES POSTED, TIME FOR MY REGULAR DOSE OF JOY & CALM. You're one of the channels that got me into model painting, and therefore dabbling in wargaming. It's always exciting to see a new video, and to watch old ones
Man you really do channel that bob ross energy, just out there painting those happy little killing machines lol
I found your coloring book comments interesting. You may have already heard this, but Suggs said that when she was trying to teach a bunch of kids to paint her Rascaltown goblins, the first thing she did was give them all black & white line drawings of the figures and just had the kids color them like a coloring book. Then, when they got minis to paint, they were not intimidated or scared and just dove right in, trying to paint what they had colored on the page. I thought that was one of those ideas that seems so obvious I wonder why I never thought of it.
Hey Brent, thank you for your calm and kind videos. Lately, I've been a bit frustrated that my mini's aren't coming out quite as I want, frustrated that my skill level isn't higher. But this was a great reminder to just enjoy the process, relax, be present, and just have fun. Which are all things that I adored about mini painting when I first got into it. It's easy to accidentally compare myself to others and feel like I need to create masterpieces, but just painting in and of itself is a great reward too. c: ❤
I love this video.
So many people losing their minds over the female custodes retcon, and it's nice to see positivity. I guess newer players don't realize the gw retcons are so incredibly common. Now they are basically retconning something every month.
As far as mental health goes, I started painting and playing Warhammer after coming home from overseas, to help with my PTSD. It was 2006. It's absolutely been helping.
I'm glad that painting helps! I'm not a therapist, but there really does seem to be something therapeutic about this hobby :-)
Awesome video, as usual ! The mental health talk resonated a lot with me, painting actually helps me a lot with relaxing and concentrating on something else ! Also, great and mature take on gatekeeping ! Your painting is awesome and those kitbashes absolutely rock
I'm glad that painting helps you too! This is a great hobby :-)
I am so glad you mad this video, Brent. It really helped my brain, as this unending train of negativity has really worn me down, so much so that I have removed almost all social media from my life. It is this endless torrent of rage over NOTHING, and it is pushed at every opportunity because it makes people money. The ability to just enjoy things is gone, everything must be dissected to find the part that you can rage at, and if you can't find it then just make something up for the clicks. It is so exhausting, and it seems impossible to avoid because the "algorithm" is constantly forcing it at us. No matter how many of these ragetubers I tell youtube not to suggest, they find a way to suggest more of the same content from someone else.
It's exhausting to see this in our hobby space, when I try to enjoy Star Wars, Star Trek, or anything. The world is already massively divided and the hate-sellers are filling their pockets in anyway that they can. It just makes me feel better to know that there are good people like you working against that tide of anger that is all over the internet. It really makes me want to start my own *crappy* youtube channel just to put out positivity, even if I have zero subs. It's more exhausting trying to avoid the anger than I think it would be to push back against it.
But you are right, I have been working to disconnect from this as real life stuff has been incredibly heavy and stressful lately, maybe I just need to paint a miniature or two.
the ragebait channels really are depressing. It's tragic because it isn't a healthy way to live, either for viewers OR for the creators. Of all the things we could possibly do with this gift of life, adopting "I hate kathleen kennedy" as a personality is so, so sad. Painting minis will always be fun tho! :-)
What brush do you use for pupils? I have shaky hands and feel like a normal 00 makes the whole sclera black, and I'm wondering if there's any recourse for people like me.
hehehe, mine has FIVE zeros! it's a davinci natural hair brush size 00000... although I think I could make things work with a size 00. I've found that I need to do fine detail work at certain times of day when I'm awake and I have a perfect medium level of caffeine in my veins. There's also some muscle memory in figuring out the best way to hold your mini and brace your hand to minimize shaking. I wish you luck!! :-)
Wait a sec. Did you find a glue that actually sticks to granny-grating?
I used a lot of loctite thin superglue... not sure what the long-term prospects are though! ;-)
Thanks for the down-to-earth and healthy advice. It’s always good to have a reminder to be healthy in whatever way we can.
They look so coooooool. I just love them and have nothing to add but an aura of agreement and friendly Appreciation
Your videos are great. I love your attitude. You are curious, creative and adaptable, all great traits. Keep on doing what you do!
Dude that green one is especially nice! Nice video I enjoyed this during my lunch break
I’ve been painting for 14 years now. People ask how I have the patience for it. I tell them that it’s my Zen. I’m not thinking about work or any stressors, I’m essentially just letting my mind go blank while my hands work. To me, painting miniatures has become my meditation that allows me to have patience elsewhere. You’re absolutely right, it’s invaluable.
exactly! It's wonderful :-)
Ya know for the last few years i have gotten into listening to audio books and audio dramas before bed. Highlights are the expeditionary force series, any SCP video by the youtuber exploring series, and the legendary bruva alfabusa here on youtube, the audio content from him and his amazing team is truly stellar and has lead to many a restful nights sleep.
that's good stuff! I think I'm 2 books into the expeditionary force, and then I realized how many more there were and how few audible credits I had available :-)
@@GoobertownHobbies I'm 6 books in and well let's just say I am the kind of guy who supports literature bring freely available to all if you take my meaning so audible isn't an issue for me lol
I think it was Luetin09 who said that "40K doesn't really have retcons and the lore is fluid." I like that approach. Everything about the lore is written by exhausted priests, tirelessly writing away onto scrolls that are lost and forgotten. Makes it so everything in the game is canon, and the possibilities are endless. Love your videos and all of the positivity you bring, Brent.
It's an entire universe. It seems obvious that we'll never have full, hard info on what happens. If you treat all fluff as a story you heard/read in-universe it will always make more sense.
@@faiir That kind of thinking is certainly treating the star wars franchise well. whoops.
@MikeTheGamer77 sorry you're having a bad day, maybe try talking to your partner about these feelings.

Jesus would not approve of women going to war and acting like men.
@@Adamantos-Elean I don't think Jesus was big on war at all. 🤡
@@GoobertownHobbies Thats why He comes back to conquer right? LOL clown.
I've had a heck of a time using that hobby grid to stick to bases (and the bottom of tinier feets). I've tried tamiya and CA glue (plus accelerator), but no dice. Did you do anything to help with the adhesion?
Interesting! This is my first time actually using this cross-stitch grating. I used superglue and it's held fine so far... but I'll stay vigilant, somebody else in the comments was mentioning this problem... In the future I'll maybe use sandpaper to rough up the surface I want to glue. Also, I'm not sure what type of plastic the grating is, but I wouldn't expect it to work with plastic glue at all. live and learn! :-)
I love the teal / turqoise color scheme very much! The blonde Custodes on the right is my favourite.
always nice to have a calming voice of reason in the hobby :)
Brent, your videos are meditation as well
I’m more upset that the SlowMo Guys shot a goose at a bust of Brent than female custodes.
I need to look into this situation! :-)
Ha! Good call. Brent isn't the Bob Ross of miniature painting, he's the Fabio.
Therapist here. Brent, I love that you are pointing out the positive mental health impact of miniature painting. It could not be more accurate. Thank you! (I also audibly giggled during the "need rage" bit).
Oh nice! Everything I said was just personal observations, I'm glad that they mesh with your professional understanding of these things! :-)
@GoobertownHobbies they 100% do, both personally and professionally. The meditation piece especially resonated with me. Painting is such a sensory experience, I'm really glad that this video touched on that.
Thank you for championing against the hate farms on CZcams…
I’m a woman who runs a hobby shop… with the climate as it is, every day I expect someone to come in and ask if I am the new diversity hire. My 24 years in the hobby doesn’t matter. It hasn’t happened yet, but I’m always worried that it’s no longer a matter of ‘if’ more a matter of ‘when.’ Seeing those awful thumbnails always coming up on my feed because ‘algorithm’ breaks my heart.
Yes, they should have released a model. But I love that female custodes are a reality now. They should have existed from the get go.
Thanks for sharing your experience, people should hear this. This internet hate garbage goes in cycles, and the gamergate 1.0 veterans seem like they're trying for a sequel. oh goodie. One step at a time! :-)
I'm sorry to hear you need to go through all that. I honestly don't understand why people need to be so negative about more people in the hobby.
@@MathijsHeideveld86 Read what she said, nothing like that has actually happened to her. Her worries are all in her head. I'm happy for her that she runs a shop (seemingly successfully).
While the community is collectively losing their minds over Chickstodes. Brent just keeps calmly painting miniatures, the way it should be
Thanks for the encouragement! I always love your gentle voice and demeanor 😊
I’m so proud keep loving this hobbie after 27 years without paying ANY attention to the lore, try it, you would love it more.
Honestly some of the best schemes I have seen for Custodes, actually makes me like them. Plus bundled with some great life advice!
Thanks! IMO the worst / least cool model in my little collection here is the gold-and-red helmet on. I needed to get the models on the desk to explore them and figure out if they could actually look cool!
